I can see a lot of work has gone into this event, but firstly I was extremely surprised to see no intro or even an invite to the Halloween event in game. Even a mail explaining where to go and what is happening would have been expected as the barest minimum requirement. Then there is very little guidance as to what to do. If you do figure out to visit Lion’s Arch, one is left totally guessing as there is little or no instructions or tutorial, the only instructions I found was for the use of the candy powered matter meter, but even these are very confusing to say the least without some sort of tutorial. For instance with the food fight in Lion’s Arch there is no instructions or intro what-so-ever. One eventually goes up to the table and is asked to simply press F to food fight and that is it, end of instructions. I press F and I see myself throw something, but I haven’t got a clue what to do or what I’m meant to achieve. How do you food fight? Where are the instructions? What is the point of it, can you win anything? Do you target other players as they’re not red, if so which players? Is there any new skills as they’re not showing on the skill bar and if so how do you use them? How do you control throwing, is there different ways to throw? Do you avoid others and if so how, can you move away from the table or what? What are all the boons (buffs) I’m seeing on other players that I target all about? I’m sorry, but this is absolutely ridiculous and this is just one small part of the event that is not explained. Where else in the game world are the events going on if any, I found the event at Lions Arch, but I understand there is more going on? There is apparently a story too, how do you get involved with that? There is a complete and utter lack of answers or instructions and I’m close to simply giving up, my friend has already given up as it’s too frustrating not having a clue what to do or where to go. I’m amazed that something as vital as this has been totally forgotten, especially since it would have taken a fraction of the time it took to make the event to include a suitable tutorial and guidance. Okay one could hunt around on the Internet for the answers, but you most definitely shouldn’t have to do this and there is all sorts of information as you plough through the Internet, good and bad. At first there was very little information what-so-ever and much of the information is now from other users. I have never played any MMO where you don’t have an invite or intro to a new world event or festival, plus every part of the event is always explained properly with instructions and often a tutorial is added when needed too, this is normally common sense and expected as standard.

In hind sight now the event has already been launched in this condition I would urgently send out a mail to every member inviting them to the event with a full guide to each part as it progresses. This isn’t as good as a proper tutorial and guidance you’d expect in the game, but it will suffice as an emergency fix on this occasion. In future please ensure proper invites, tutorials Etc are included with any event as you’d expect. In fact the entire game could do with tutorials and I’ve already read of critics mentioning this as it’s very difficult for people who are new to MMOs, adding this to the game would be very beneficial to many people overall in the long term. I am however an MMO veteran and even I’m still struggling to understand the new Halloween Event, so newbies to MMOs probably wouldn’t have a chance.

Thanks for an excellent game overall. I provide constructive criticism in the hope of making this game even better.

Yeah. An in-game world-wide mail should have been sent inviting players to the festivities in LA.

If that was possible, the should do it in future events.

totally agree. i didnt even know there r events up in lions arch till i went to the bank in there.

first thing i did, was carving a pumpkin… yea so i guess thats the whole point of it. then i ran into food fight, no idea what i am suppose to do.
i got a quest beside the place where a pumpkin head is shown on map. i received a mail with a meter that eats corn. i read the mail, so i am suppose to scan some ghost(?), but where??? the instruction points to the giant pumpkin head. “oh that must be the place i scan!” i spent five corns circling around that place scanning and found nothing and there r many other people doing the same thing.

i just found out that there s a story line about it, as i was typing “guild wars 2 mad king” into google search.

I completely agree with the OP. I have tried a few events but basically just guessed my way through it and when it comes to the Candy scanner I have no idea what to do. The instructions are completely missing/lacking.

To add insult to injury placing the event hub in the most lagtastic city in all of tyria is not a great choice, IMO. 80% of the time the NPCs never load so I’m left wandering around looking for something that isn’t even there.

I’m completely underwhelmed by this event and am hoping that ANet takes some of this feedback and makes major changes for the next holiday event.

I actually love the set up in Lion’s Arch. I agree that I just kind of wandered around aimlessly watching the costume brawl chaos at first. The ‘quest givers’ for Halloween are quite obviously marked with a giant pumpkin over their heads, though, as well as Halloween vendors being marked with candy corn, so it was simple enough to figure out.

A simple mail ‘nudge’ towards Lion’s Arch WOULD be helpful, though

The Long Road

Current progress: Human 4/6 | Charr 1/6 | Norn 1/6 | Sylvari 1/6 | Asura 1/6 | Total: 8/30

Extremly dissapointed, as OP says, no clue what so ever to do, had to google, use youtube etc..and..i was trying to do this with a low level char, quess what, im pretty sure you need to be lvl80 to finish the story as it proceed into higher level zones already, so that would be helpful knowing as well before you start trying to solve it.

On top of that extremly shady explanation of how rare a skin drop from lion chests really are (a chance isnt super rare, like expect to even get one), and the keys..i still havent had one loot from those in game, only as a few rewards, so ppl are buying alot and nothing is dropped even after 100-200 chests opened, then over to the skin receipes, you have to grind your teeth out to even get close to get one, som much for statments like ‘we don’t want the players to grind, cause its boring’.

The event isnt fun, its a money drain all the way thru.

I think some in-game indications should be given. I lurk forums and wiki all the time so I had no problem, but today I accompained another player through every ghost to explain him what to do and I tried to give him indication of which cool stuff is added to the game.

I have no idea how the candy scanner works at all. The game says there’s a ghost right next to the NPC who gives it out, but I don’t find anything.

It was because of someone elses’ luck I found the first ghost, got a page from a book of some sort and now I have no idea what to do after that. I searched what should obviously be an area it’s talking about but even if it’s the right place the scanner wouldn’t tell me.

User will be infracted for this post.

I was completely lost for a while. had to look stuff up on youtube and google to figure out what the hell is happening. It would be nice to know the scope of everything that ’s going on. I completely agree with you on this.

The fact that there aren’t any instructions whatsoever coupled with the fact that you must “pay” to get these skins is ridiculous. I understand that for the hardcore gamer this is a wonderful idea. Bu there is no way for casual gamers like myself to spend hours upon hours each day during the entireity of this event doing these tasks and getting the rewards. Why in the world would ANet make this event one where you must spend money to get the event items you want? Why not make it based on PvE rewards where you must plow through dungeon in hopes of getting one of these skins?

Please correct me if I’m wrong about anything in this post but it seems that to get the desired rewards, you have to “grind”, which is something the Devs originally said the game would not be about.
