What to learn from the halloween JP
I tend to agree with 2 versions, easy and hard.
Easy: solo where the tower and green stuff is slowed down by 25-50%. Rewards are achievement and a few ToT bags from the chest.
Hard: like it is now
That way the event would have been doable for everyone and those that seek the extra challenge could do the regular ‘hard’ version afterwards to test their twitch-reflexes

Disagree, Hard should add traps and the goo should move quicker while the mad king asks you to dance.
I used to be all for solo instances, but now I don’t think they are that necessary. Instead, I just think there should be a cap of maybe around 5-7 on the group size. I managed to find a group of only 5 people, (and usually 2 of them made it each time, so every other time we went there were only 3 of us) and it was incredible! We still had that social aspect, but you weren’t overwhelmed by the number of other players.
However, I would love a normal/hard version.
You don’t deserve an achievement for not achieving things.
Group size in the instance is a technical limitation. The jumping puzzle designer said he wanted to make it a solo instance, but had to settle for 10-15 person overflow isntancing.
Disagree with the easy/hard mode. The entire point of this addition was to add challenging content that only a percentage of the userbase could complete. I’ll probably never be able to afford a legendary, but every single one of my characters has an exotic pair of Mad King Slippers.
two modes would be great. but then, wouldn’t the hard one have to give an achievement as well? (ie the second tier)
other than that:
- less players
- same model for all (say differently colored plastic spiders)
- decrease wait-time (if you die early, you spend about 3/4 of the time just waiting)
and the tower would’ve been much better. I only made it after getting into a group without norn/char (I just switched a lot). the first few jumps were so incredibly hard without knowing where to jump and you always had to wait another 60 seconds at least because you can be sure there is someone in the group who’s good at the puzzle. once I finally got past the horde (thanks to ele trait-swiftness!), the puzzle was actually pretty easy. It only took a few tries (5-10 or so), but for every time I made it further up the tower, I in turn died several times on the first few jumps because I couldn’t see anything. even now I still die mostly at the start (after waiting on the platform), not on the ‘difficult’ jumps later on.
If I’m in a party, let me play with my friends and ofc wait if I die first. otherwise, just put me back into another room where the timer is nearly full… I’ve done all jps in the game but I’m not that good at them. If there has to be a timer mechanic like the goo, at least allow me to retry instantly so I can pratice until I get it (which I did, but it took about 5 hours, at least 3 of which I was just waiting for the timer – and complaining to my brother via skype about the puzzle ;-)
Even if they implemented 2 modes there would still be people who complain because they can’t complete the hard one…

You don’t deserve an achievement for not achieving things.
For those with less than perfect reflexes or those that have a disability, it would still be an achievement for them.
So please stop preaching such pointless egocentric views and try to look at it from a broader perspective.

It’s not egocentric. Egocentric is thinking you are entitled to achievements. Whether a person has less than perfect reflexes or a disability is beyond the point. There are many achievements that I will never get and I am okay with that. Achievements are achievements for a reason.
Doing it with other people was only a problem for the first 3 jumps… then all the dumb people fell off and it was fine.
I don’t have a problem with 2 difficulties, but certainly only the hard mode should award the achievement. What’s the point of an “achievement” if you don’t have to “achieve” anything to get it?

It has little to do with thinking you are entitled to achievements. Maybe this will allow you to understand the meaning of the word

Besides, it hasn’t been much of an achievement to obtain all the other achievements related to this event; yes? All people had to do was carve pumpkins or hop into a zone. So I fail to see why some people are against two different modes so everyone may have an equal chance at enjoying content and get an achievement for their participation.

Its not made for solo. Its made to be done with a lot of people. Thats the difficulty part. I liked it that way. Most people end up falling at the beginning parts which makes it a solo/duo or maybe trio event to the end anyways.
Its “optional” anyways and what would the point of things be if everyone can get it?
Ive spent many weeks doing every jump puzzle available and the sense of achievement is great for the long hours Ive put into it….and thats how it should be.
I also disagree with easy/hard. If it’s easy, it’s not much of an achievement. It’s just a check box.
What I think the big issue is, is the limited availability of the puzzle. It’s a festival with lots of things to see and do, and during a time of year where a) people still have to work while b) running festivities for children/attending parties. Asking for the time commitment to master a difficult puzzle at this time does not strike me as a good idea.
If it wasn’t tied to Halloween, I don’t think we’d see a tenth the amount of complaints on the forum. I sure as heck wouldn’t have complained.
The tower is the only thing that has been a challenge in the event. Actually, its one of rare aspects of the game that I have not been able to beat yet after attempting a few tries.
And I like that about the tower. Sometimes things are too easy in the game, a few challenges are not going to hurt anyone.
Maybe it’s because of the over abundance of user-friendliness that ANet has doled out with GW2, but I welcome the fact that there’s content that’s difficult and takes time to master. If you don’t have the time to do ONE specific piece of content, maybe it’s just not meant to be.
An achievement that is easily completed, and everyone can do it… kind of loses its power of being an achievement. To me, a lot of the “achievements” don’t feel like I’ve achieved anything at all. Completing this jump puzzle actually felt somewhat like an achievement because I had to work at it. Let the “elitists” or whatever you want to name call me have some content that’s actually challenging for more seasoned players, there’s plenty of other content that the masses can complete.
With that all said, the actual puzzle itself had issues. As practically everyone has mentioned, there are way too many people in the instances. The biggest challenge was that first set of jumps after the pause. There are so many people bunched there, and so many things you could clip that would mess up your jumps. That dictated how the rest of the run was going to go. If I got through that smoothly, I could consistently make it 3/4+ through the puzzle. TBH the actually puzzle wasn’t difficult, it was that PLUS the wait that was annoying.

I vote for a change to transmorph everyone into the same size, but please do not make it a solo instance. Part of what made the experience so fantastic is the fact that I was doing it with others, others who are also failing, fighting and crying alongside me. Everyone was cheering everyone else on.
When I make a wrong jump the guy behind me will suggest other paths I should take, which objects to skip jumping on.
Having others there brings the whole experience to a different level.
