Who thinks the Greatsaw Greatsword skin got too much attention?
IMO, the great sword skins are always amazing, while others are sub par to it. Unfortunately I don’t play any characters that use a great-sword atm, but I always take a look at the skins because they are, again in my opinion, always one of the best, and a lot of the time animated —while daggers kind of get the backburner. (Smaller sword skin)
The dagger legendary to me is no where near the greatsword(s). And the skins for halloween are just laughable (for daggers). I do hope other weapons get some love in the future. Maybe there is just more ideas for the greatsword skins and that’s why they always rock socks?
shrug
Honestly , is is obvious to anyone that they spent more time over that skin. Thus no wonder more players would want that over the others.
Still i dont really like that gs , i mean , only char i would use that on is a charr warrior.
My gs using char is a norn guardian , and in my opinion it would lock ridiculous on her. Why a guardian would use a greatsaw anyway???
I`m (in years to come) hoping for the leg-end dagger & yes, it`s not as “ohwowwtf” awesome as the greatsword, but for one obvious reason.
They`re teeny tiny & there`s only so much you can put on something so small.
Perhaps the only other thing that could`ve been added would`ve been to change the characters look whilst equipping it, but lot of effort there I guess.
I like the MK events dagger skin, looks funky.

Rocking Wizard Wars until this mess of a game is fixed…
Yup, they use 75% of their graphics team budget on greatswords alone.
Does the one handed chainsaw even make noises like the greatsword version i was told it doesn’t? that would be the ultimate proof of bias.
Why are the daggers so small, if they want to keep em so small they need to give them all glow and unique attack effects.
For a cosmetics based loot system, the weapons for most are junk.
I agree that more efforts can be done in designing other smaller weapons.
It’s one reason why I don’t feel like farming for a cosmetic dagger for my thief.
(The halloween dagger looks too simple and not practical-looking for actual combat.)

My main female Norn is a Guardian, and her primary weapon is the Greatsword. I can tell you it doesn’t look weird on her. Plus why would a Guardian use a greatsword? A guardian needs to be able to attack sometimes.
I’m sorry I can’t hear you over the sound of my chainsaw.
I actually agree. My first character to 80 was an Engineer. After seeing the legendary pistol (confetti gun) and legendary rifle (slightly cooler but not worth the time imo), I leveled a warrior just because end game is all about aesthetics.
Now, while some people do argue that flashiness isn’t that important. I know people that think that weapons should not be as big as they are and that the trail of sparkles is distasteful.
While it may be hard to appease everyone with the graphics of something, some are more eye-catching due to their size and what can be done to make it flashy. You are going to notice the trail of glitter from the legendary Greatswords before you notice the laser from the legendary Rifle. Bigger weapons also have more to work with, so they are more noticeable.
My advice is play the character you enjoy before getting caught up in the glamour of the shinies. Arenanet will be more apt to come out with new graphics for weapon types before changing the playstyle of class.

Ofc we must be offensive also , but…
My point is , when i look at my guard i think she should have a +- noble look , be it for good or bad , she should look like a knight.
Leave it to the warriors to be barbaric.
A greatsaw would not fit my guard look , i got 3 skins from this event: scythe/crossing/mad moon, i really dont miss the greatsaw.

Haha, I understand that barbaric look. I just like the GS too much. :P In relation to this topic though, I think GS gets a lot of hate (and there are quite a few ugly skins out there for them, and considering how big they are, more detail should be placed in their design) so I am okay with them focusing a little bit more on the GS. But my Alt uses daggers so I understand the ugliness thing.
The one-hand chainsaw went from 4g to 20g+
@lookitsandrea.8531 Please post stuff relevant to the topic thanks.

a cool dagger skin wouldn’t even matter to me since as an asuran thief i can’t even see my weps…lol
here’s hoping legendary back pieces or other armor come into play one day
Yeah, there are essentially no really good looking dagger skins (the only one that looks pretty decent is incinerator and that will run you almost 1000g). Fortunately I like the focus to be on my character so I don’t care too much what my daggers look like… as long as they aren’t giant rambo knives, which is the case far too often (but transmute fixes that). Still I think they need to add more daggers with particle effects, which is really the only way to make a non-giganto dagger that stands out (somehow anet feels giant greatswords which already stand out require more particle effects than daggers… go figure).

I love playing my Mesmer. I’m designing her to be something like Princess Peach/Barbie mesmer
Having said that, I didn’t feel too let down about not getting any Halloween skins as they did not fit my motif, even though the Greatsaw is incredible. However, I’m hoping for a staff one day with LOTS of sparkles, glitter and whatever else….flower petals, rainbows, butterflies etc. I want LOTS of flash for my Mesmer Staff lol! I haven’t seen any of the Legendary Staffs yet, or even looked into it yet as im only 57, I’m just sayin.
Errr….more On Topic, I don’t think the Greatsword got too much attention so much as the other weapons didn’t get enough. For the detail in the skins, which was nice enough I suppose, they should’ve been easier to get.

MrMacAndCheese.3907 Don’t confuse yourself with the Chain Sword Skin and obviously you haven’t seen the Greatsaw Greatsword Skin being used in game.

Who thinks the greatsword skin got too much attention while the rest got ignored?
I like the overall look of the staff (The Crossing) but the animation kind of kills it. The lantern just bounces all over the place like it has no weight, and the glow is far too small.
Also, the scythe skin is interesting for necros, but the scythe’s blade doesn’t line up with the “shadow blade” that appears on necro staves while casting, so the end result is you get a scythe with two blades (one grey, one black), which just looks weird.
P.S. – I think the chainsaw would make a great engineer kit, with unique abilities (ex., “ride the saw” to charge towards the enemy, “rev it up” to overcharge the saw motor and create a could of blinding smoke, etc.).

Not to mention that clothing frequently clips over daggers and other small weapons when sheathed. Why put effort into a vanity item that can’t be seen most of the time?
The Ghastly Shield skin is the only one that really compares at all. The one handed sword especially is lacking, it’s hard to put it in the same category as the greatsword and there’s no clear reason why it’s so much less detailed, and with no animations.
Nah, it was an amazing piece of design. I got one, but I sold it, the only class I play that uses the GS is my Asuran Mesmer, and frankly it’s just a waste having nice weapons on an Asura. Plus it doesn’t fit a mesmer anyway. I got a grinning shield too, which I also didn’t want, but I goofed up and transmuted it… Support told me to check back in a few months and see if they have the tools to unsoulbind, as of yet they do not.
@Quetz
I agree it is a little dissatisfying to see the Greatsaw greatsword get such a detailed graphic and a similar weapon like the One handed saw look like it was put together hastily in comparison.
This is speculation on my part but given how people act when they have to wait for anything, (Look at the release of Act 1 and how many people were crying about a delay) it’s possible that Arenanet might have been more concerned with releasing the patch then focusing on creating something as flashy as the Greatsaw.
The greatsaw is so incredibly rare that the effort put in to creating it was nearly a waste anyway. I saw a single one throughout the entire Halloween event, and it was in an overflow LA.
In the end the effort given to skins everyone was given free, the books/hat were sub par. The books float four feet away from the body on some characters, have clipping issues etcetra, and the hat, while a nice model is ruined by the bald head it creates.

Its rare because the drop rate sucks. I spend $60 on keys and only got tonics, some boosters, black lion pickaxes. That’s all I have to show for the money I spent. Never going to buy anything from the store again.

Not all items at the store are aimed at gamblers. The witch’s outfit, for example, is great. The look alone is worth 400 gems or so, and the extra abilities (summon cat, create cauldron, and fly around on a broom) definitely bring it up to the 700 it costs.
Of the items introduced in Halloween, I would also buy the aviator helmet if a) it looked good on charr (looks good on all other races, but on charr it covers the eyes and makes horns disappear – wtf?) and b) it was an actual armor skin, and not a piece of town clothes.
The Halloween pets are cute, too, but overpriced.

Yeah that’s fine. I really love the witch outfit and mad kings outfit but sadly they are outfits and not Armour skins I cant use them in combat. When I play guild wars2 I’m always in combat zones, I hardly ever find myself standing around out of combat zones. It would be stupid to switch from outfit to Armour just to go to pick something up from trading post :p
I wish they were like the Primeval Armour skin, So i could use one skin for PVP gear and the other for PVE
Oh yeah I completely forgot about those mini pets. I found it a bit annoying that I had to buy the Miniature Spooky Trio Pack twice, in order to get Chainsaw the Skeleton.
Come to think of it, I think I spent much more than $60!

Greatsaw and Ghastly Shield definately got a lot more attention than the other weapons. Especially obvious when you look at the 1H chainsaw sword, which has no animation and no sound effects. Its the same type of weapon, they could have at least put the same amount of effort into them.
I think the daggers were poorly designed and to make it even more ugly they added severed arms wtf??
I am curious to know why they didn’t add severed arms to other weapons??
Here is another thought…isn’t arena net trying to avoid clipping weapons? Granted they screwed all males with medium armor from clipping while weapons are put away, BUT the severed arms cause much more clipping!
