Why Random Chance the Skins, Let us Buy them with Gems!
You can convert your gems to gold and buy the skins that way. I’d imagine it’s feasible if the current gem to gold exchange rate is still hyperinflated.

its not, the staff is going for 40g+ at the moment, and the GS is even more expensive
The point is for the permanent skins to be rare. People would have already bought out the cash shop of all the different skins and just about everyone would have them.
This is what should have been done in the first place, but from the perspective of someone who wants to make money, forcing players to play the lottery is a significantly more profitable venture. That, and changing it at this point might tick off more than a few players, sadly.
EDIT: Rarity shouldn’t matter—if they’re unique to this year’s Halloween event then they WILL become rare as time goes by.
I spent 40 gold so i’d want a refund lol.
If they made the great sword cost 400 gems, almost every player in the game would be using it over anything else. They needed more variaty and items.
I don’t know about that, there’s quite a bit of variety in weapons if you’re willing to go around and look—and four hundred gems is a bit too cheap. Seven hundred (the same as the costumes) is much more reasonable—enough to discourage people from buying them en masse for their characters.
Wish they’d implement a costume/skin collector NPC or add storage for the skins or something like the Hall of Monuments NPC so after we buy something it gets permanently added so that that character or account can access it forever.
You would have to dump 4800-5000 gems for 40g to buy the skin lol.

This is a Halloween event item, not a legendary precursor. It’s supposed to be an event memorabilia.
Having it drop at the same rate as a legendary precursor is really bad game design.

Yes, and I wouldn’t expect a skin to be less than 5k gems, so what’s the problem?
Seriously, skins a supposed to be rare, if you have one, you should feel lucky and not just like one among many.
Occam Pi (Ele), Acaena Elongata (Warrior), Finja Salversdotir (Ranger),
Bytestream (Engineer), Vim Whitespace (Thief)
The event’s bought, random and temporary memorabilia really feels against the spirit of GW1’s. It was a much more generous holiday in GW1, we get free hats and the armor skins were worldwide.
what is that, like $60? Ridiculous.
I don’t mind taking a chance. But the drop rate from the chests is so incredibly low. It isn’t worth it IMO.
Please read my post as I detail that the cost of the halloween items is roughly the equivalent of a six month subscription to another mmo.
The halloween stuff should be accessible… they could put them on the trading post if they had to. Alot of companies actually give their halloween stuff to the player.. in permanent version.. for just completing a quest. Fond memories of Final Fantasy 11 drift back, and that game was less than satisfying.
the light! And if we dance, until the heart explodes,
It’ll make this place ignite!
I agree, I would pay for it outright, but I won’t spend my money gambling for a one in a million shot. Keys should drop more btw…
Agreed too. With the random chance so low, i will definitely not buy any keys to unlock the BLCs. i had planned to, but fortunately i read the forums and heard about the basically impossibly low rate at which they handed out halloween stuff, so i didn’t bother.
i’d have happily paid $20 or $30 to open cases if the drop rate was high enough that i’d end up with at least one skin or two of that amount, but to not end up with any is unsatisfactory.
i think they could/should sell the skins outright in the gem shop anyways. i think for $20 to even $40 to pick the specific one you want.. would be fine. For example i’d love to buy the scythe for my friend, and would pay $20 to $40 directly to Anet to purchase that specific skin as a gift for my friend..
i’m not willing to gamble with such low odds at winning. Or pay the $65ish dollars its currently seeming to cost to buy off the trading post from another player.
It looks like we are buying the game again and again with the huge effort needed if we want this things.
Asura thing.
