I’ll be honest, usually I can’t stand when playable races in a fantasy game are humans, elves or dwarves. There’s certain examples where people have made them interesting, but they mostly come off as bland and generic to me.

Strangely enough, this is the first MMO I’ve played where I’ve actually liked the humans as a playable race. I’m not going to go as far as to say they’re “realistic,” but they have an interesting style that feels more original. I like the hairstyles and how some can bizarrely look like anime characters. They have good animations and the voice acting for the male I actually enjoy so far (haven’t made a female character yet so I can’t judge that voice acting).

The voice acting in this game is good in some place, but sadly for a lot of the actors…their voice director appeared to be sub-par, because while they’ve shown great talent in other games, in this one, sometimes they’re a bit lackluster. Sadly, human female, I feel, is one of the worst examples.

Which is sad, because she does great in other work. She does a number of voices on South Park, SWTOR, Empress in Dishonored, the antagonist in inFAMOUS 2: Festival of Blood, voices the female Dragonborn in Skyrim (while there’s not a lot there, she did well on it)… she has some good credits. This, sadly, was just not one of them (imo) and wasn’t really her fault either (again, imo). cause she’s not the only one that this shows for.

Nolan North—the quintessential voice of Deadpool—plays the Human male, and I didn’t know that until I decided to look up the voice credits one day. He also plays the voice of Nathan Drake in Uncharted, David in The Last of Us, and a whole bunch of other really awesome voices that should have made it easy for me to identify him.

I am enjoying my Human character as well. Similarly, I have found Human characters in other MMOs to be extremely lackluster, but I think it is because of the customizable story elements and dialogue in general that give players a reason why they should play as a Human.

Yeah I won’t pretend like it’s all good, but for what I was expecting going into making a human, I was pretty impressed for what I got. Customization wise, I think one of the major differences for me was versatile customization. I could make a human that looked like a standard warrior that’s a big rugged, or I can make a ridiculous looking anime-ish warrior with strange features and armor sets. I liked having the option of diversity compared to other MMOS where humans are usually sidelined as this bland, one type only with forgettable qualities.

Ha ha, Yes …
at least Guild Wars 2 offers two standards for humans (except females, who belong to the straight-haired lolita type only):
diversity is the sliding scale between caveman and prepubescence.

I have to force myself into creating anything else than a Human female – They’re easily the best imo.

But why are the body types all skinny? Sure, I guess that you’d get pretty slim fighting dozens of enemies all day long, but still… I think it’s a bit immoral.

Actually, I don’t agree at all. I think there are a huge amount of good options to choose from, and this is more subjective than one might think; I’ve always though that only one of the Female Sylvari-faces was good and that no one used any of the others – However, a few minutes ago, I stumbled upon a thread where people voted for their favorite Sylvari-faces, and it was a lot more diverse than I ever though it was. Mine wasn’t even in the 2nd place!

And from discovering the variety in (female) sylvari faces, one comes to disagreeing about the one-dimensionality of (male) humans … how?
Alright … I do know what you’re getting at, but I tweaked human (male) aswell as sylvari (male) faces before concluding that only the latter offers representational diversity.

Desmond in the first Assassin’s Creed was the first place I heard him, but yeah. He’s one of the ones that seems to usually do well despite the director. Troy Baker (Logan Thackeray) does well, too, imo, whether you like the character or not the acting is still pretty solid.

Sadly, human female, I feel, is one of the worst examples.

Are you serious? Human female is the best pc voice in game, and one of the few I can actually take seriously, because the actor is not trying to fit a caricature. You want laughable, go play a female norn or sylvari.

Funny because I find the female sylvari to be the best pc voice in the game. She actually adds inflection to her lines, when she’s angry she sounds angry, etc. Whereas female human while not bad feels very flat by comparison.

Having played through the same order storyline with both a female human and sylvari I must say the sylvari voice acting is much more enjoyable.

Well personally I feel like Sylvari sounds like an American trying to sound British. Also I guess I like the acting to be a little on the “flat” side, since it’s more believable. In real life people aren’t always dramatically inflecting their voices.

Additionally, battle quotes are the main factor for me since those are what I hear 99.999% of the time, especially after finishing personal story. So I care mostly about the aesthetics of the voice itself compared to delivery I suppose. And I find human to be by far the most pleasing in this regard.

Anyways, opinion. I’m sure you get just as ticked off when someone disses Sylvari voice as I do when someone disses human voice.

It lacks, in my opinion, a lot of feeling and realism.

For what it’s worth, though, imo, female norn is the absolute worst. I like sylvari voices though, both genders.

Humans have a lot of lore behind them compared to all the other races. And as the only playable race from GW1, playing them in GW2 makes you sympathize with their plight a lot more. So for me its kinda like rooting for the underdogs. Most all my characters are human save for 3 of them. I don’t even have a Charr. Guess why?

I went human partly because I liked the fact that they were considered underdogs by all other races except Sylvari. Unfortunately, the human personal story didn’t touch that aspect of humanity even once.

As for voice acting, my main is a human female and the only thing that annoys me are the boon gain lines, like “I COULD OUTRUN A CENTAUR” or “YOU’LL HAVE TO HIT MUCH HARDER”. The lines were cool at first but you hear them 10 times per minute in a zerg so it’s really tiresome. To be appreciated, lines like those should be few and far between.

voices the female Dragonborn in Skyrim (while there’s not a lot there, she did well on it)…

I would have never, ever guessed that.. and I played so much of Skyrim, I had to buy a second disk to replace it [my progress was saved on the console]. The female human voice on GW2 is not my favorite. Sylvarian female is better I think.. The female necro sylvarian is da bomb when she says, “Rise from death.. my beauty” with such conviction, definitely my favorite. I can’t stand the Norn female voice.. it’s way too masculine.

I like the humans in this game because they’re so hilariously beautiful. You have to consciously try in order to not make a human who looks like a model.
