I really hate plaing my mesmer and my guard with GS. Why? They are both female and look like they werent even able to carry that thing…
Male humans on the other hand, carry it proudly like a flag.

Is there anybody else who hates this?

Specially wielding a legendary GS, this is very disappointing in my eyes.

I don’t agree! I think the huge sword pose is really cool, the way she’s holding it makes her look like she knows how to use it. It’s probably super heavy, so it makes sense to save strength by not holding it up above your head all the time.

Feh, I like the pose. And especially love the walking around with a greatsword pose.

Furthermore, if you wanted a character that looked like they could wave around such a big hunk of metal, should’ve rolled a Norn.

Same problem in WoW too. Female Humans look like they can hardly hold 2 handed weapons and animations are terrible when they swing.

ehh Its not that bad. I like both the animations and ways they hold it up, but I dont have a preference to either of them… I guess its a personal thing then

For your mesmer, use Mimic while weilding a GS: She can carry the thing with one hand with the blade parallel to the ground. Heavy-lifting much.

If you’re a male I want you to go get a greatsword in real life and try running around with it holding it up.

Female poses are more realistic.

Just to clarify he does mean for an extended period of time not just for a short run.

I actually like the way they hold it, it makes them look agile and ready to fight.

Perhaps when you swing a 2h sword in this game at the end of the swing your character could follow the swing’s momentum slightly to accentuate the force and weight of the huge blade.

In my opinion, if you’re holding a sword that looks like it can cut through a tiger tank you shouldn’t be able to sheathe it on your back, rather you should just have to carry it over your shoulder.

I actually wish male Humans would hold their GSs that way. The female GS pose exudes a certain finesse that the male “flag” pose lacks.

That said, realistically speaking:

I like the female animation with GS. It’s more realistic but doesn’t hinder the ability to use it in battle. That’d be a real mess…all GS attacks with female toons take 2x as long to swing, due to swords being stupid heavy lol.

As an aside, female Norn used to have the same animation for holding GS. Anet changed it to something a little more befitting a giant Norn, still not wielding it like a male, but not dragging it either. More parallel to the ground now.

If you walk w/ the greatsword out as a human male, he does in fact carry it over his shoulder.

I completely agree. I hardly use the GS on my own female Mesmer, because for me, the Mesmer is suppose to be always elegant. The way they hold it doesn’t really fit with that image for me. It just works out that I don’t really like that GS anyway so I don’t deal with it.

Same goes for female and, might I add, with a very glamourous and elegant stride.

Also, Mr Achensherd, bear in mind that not every two-handed swords are buster swords. While being wieldable if adequately produced, its width and blade size may not be the most benefical considering its lenght which could otherwise be longer and still arguably more efficient and manageable.

For combat realism, see Zweihander or Odachi which are often wielded in such way that favours horizontal swings. Just because you can wield a buster sword doesn’t make it a standard. See ceremonial swords for instance.

Well, I didn’t really like it in the start, since you know, it doesn’t really look like she’s strong enough to carry it. However, I didn’t want my character to be some big muscle-mama anyway, so I don’t really mind it in the end.

And a just for good order; two handed swords were not as heavy, slow and clumsy as most people like to think (thank you Hollywood). They often didn’t weigh more than 5kg (depending on the shape and size.

The famous katana (japanese sword) which was wielded with two hands often weighed less than 1,5kg. (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_weight_of_a_katana)

And the other famous two handed sword; the claymore, weighed about 2,5kg. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claymore)

It takes body and soul, to reach your goal!
