I am surprised I couldn’t find a topic on this considering there was a lot of complaint during the betas about the lack of variety in human female body types, but I would like to raise the subject again.

Human female body types supplied during character creation do have a small variety of bust and butt sizes, but they are all attached to frames that range only from anorexic to underweight. One could make the argument that Tyria is short on food supply, resulting in underfed people, but I think that we can rule that out with the Norn male body types (but that’s another discussion).

I suggest that more body types be added to the game, particularly for human females, but also across all races and genders. I understand that most people do not want to play an overweight character, but with the general popularity of heavy characters in The Old Republic, I think it’s safe to say that some people would really appreciate the opportunity to look unique. Alternatively, implement a body slider instead of body types.

Secondly, I noticed that the available human male face types tended to fall into two categories, tough guy and manchild. It took some finagling with the facial sliders to get even close to the dashing look that I had in mind. I would recommend adding more facial types to allow for a larger variety of people who don’t want to look effeminate or grisly. ALTERNATIVELY, more facial sliders such as “age” or “skin texture” could be implemented to give player more control over character creation.

Ultimately, more options, or more sliders, please!

I agree, their lack of choice when it comes to character creation is lacking but you also have to wonder have we been spoiled by Bethesda

Having played Guild Wars 1, I was surprised that we even got a few non-supermodel choices, heh.

Totally agree with OP on the skinny nature of the human choices. The Norn get at least 1 heavier frame to choose from. Would like to see at least 1 non-barbie frame for humans as well.

About faces, human females are the WORST when it comes to baby faces. They have one face that is aged but it looks freaking 50 years old (no offense to 50 year olds, I am almost there as well). The best you can do for females to age them above 14 years old is sullen the cheeks with the editor.

Also, I am really missing a lipstick option or mouth in general. Cannot really understand why it’s directly tied to the eyes. Sometimes, the eyes look great but are ruined by a stupid-looking mouth.

I completely agree on your second point, sometimes the mouth ruins the whole face :S there should be more options to edit it.

Regarding your first point, I’m not too disappointed with the body types but then again I wanted my female toons to be busty but I can understand that there should be more options to cater other preferences as well.

I think there are one or two faces that look like an actual woman’s face (yes, women my age would be referred to as MILFs), and maybe one face that would be over 40.

The male faces are just…. too pretty.

The female faces are all pretty.
There is one face that has laugh lines to make a slightly older and another that makes it seems your character hasn’t gotten much sleep with bags under the eyes.

An example is Fiona Hastings, in the Clayent Falls area. You have to help her with her Beehives when the bears attack them. You hear this old woman’s voice, but she looks like:

While other races have more variety in choices in body and face type, (not to be confused with amount we have more choices than other races) humans seem to have homogenized into a slim and fit or muscular and fit across Tyria, since NPCs seem to be within the choices we have as well.

The lack of male faces was one of the reasons why my main is female. The male faces are either borderline-ugly brute or girl. And I don’t want my male characters look girlier than my females! I want them to be good-looking but not model-like. I want to have an option to add a scar, freckles or other face decoration besides beards. I would also love if the female faces would come without make up and we would be able to give them some in a seperate step. I’m not asking for something like the CAS in Sims.
More like 2-3 different ways of applying lipstick (covering the entire lips, one with lipliner and maybe a crazy shape that doesn’t cover the entire lip or so) and letting us choose the color for it like with the hair/eye/skin color. Same for eyeliner and eyeshadow and blush. just giving us 2 options each with 10-20 colors would allow us to create even more unique characters than before.
In the decorations tab, give us a couple of scars, 2-3 versions of freckles, moles, eyebags, marks etc. and let us choose 1 of them.
So the males have beards & decorations and the females have make-up and decorations.
I can understand that we don’t have a slider to adjust the body shape, since it would affect armour. But giving us more options would be nice. Especially non-perfect shapes. Chubby girls and maybe even an overweight one.

There’s a female norn bodytype that could just be scaled down 25% and it would make a voluptuous female human. Very little coding required I would imagine, no?

As for male faces, I found that aging is achievable by dragging the eye angle so that they droop a bit at the outsides – Not so much that you end up making your guy look like he’s about to cry, but just mere millimeters lower than the inside corner. Choose a young-ish face, put a beard on him to hide the baby cheeks, drag the eyes down, and enlarge the brow and chin.

Not perfect, but it’s a start.

My female thief has changed her looks in recent days. From the short, cropped white hair to dark shoulder-length. Its amazing how different she has looked with a different hair style.

I haven’t noticed the problem with male faces, but that’s because my human male was meant to be really young-looking. I guess, considering how easy it was to make him really young looking, I see your point.

As for human female bodies, I have noticed this, and it BUGS ME. I complained about it all through beta, and nobody listened. Most of the human female body types disgust me…. what are we teaching our little girls about women’s bodies? That if you don’t look like a skeleton, or a barbie doll, you’re not attractive? This problem is not just in GW2, it’s EVERYWHERE in society.

For my two human females, I picked the two heaviest body types. The most heavy one available looks like the body of a normal, pretty sixteen year old girl. The second most heavy one looks like the body of a skinny, pretty sixteen year old girl. Everything else looks unhealthy—maybe one in a million women is actually capable of appearing that way without being terribly ill.

I think some of the anorexic body types need to be replaced with variety. Keep the huge-boobs one for eye candy, and keep the tiny-boobs one for variety, but the rest of the anorexics look the same and should be scrapped. In their place, we need the option of a muscular woman—someone who has worked to build her muscle mass, and who actually looks like she could be a warrior. We also need a couple plus-sized options—not obese, but hardy. Women who look fit and healthy, but also strong and well-fed.

Not true. Healthy, slender women aren’t considered anorexic and underweight. But the bodies in guild wars 2 don’t look like healthy slender women—they look like THIS:

Now you’re probably thinking to yourself, but that is a healthy slender woman. Actually no…. that’s what a healthy, slender sixteen year old MIGHT look like if she’s very tall. The vast majority of women cannot get as thin as the woman in this picture without being underweight or physically unhealthy (95%). The picture itself is heavily computer edited—even the woman in it isn’t that “perfect” in real life. The fact that this kind of body is seen as normal, is because media (like guild wars 2) only shows these computer-edited women, and we never see what normal, fit women actually look like.

The head is too small, the legs too long, too thin shoulder width (on the girls) etc. They have proportions of a person who’s 2 meters (6ft 7 inch) plus. And when you adjust height, the body just shrink in scale, not in a natural way (like just the legs, neck and torso getting shorter). A 5ft 7 person doesn’t have the same proportions like a 6ft 3 guy, but in GW2 they have.

I get that it’s hard to adjust it that way so I guess there isn’t much purpose complaining about it. But I wish they could change the proportions a little."
