I joined the Vigil on my first character, and I’m noticing something a little odd. It seems like there are very few humans in the Order (and those I’ve seen have been grunts, except for the Vigil member who recruited me- and ALL the orders sent humans to Queen Jenah). Given humans have a long martial tradition, it frankly seems weird. I know there are even fewer asura, but I didn’t find this surprising given their culture and size.

Are humans joining other Orders, possibly due to not wanting to serve under a Charr that used to fight them? Are they so embattled that most who chose to fight stay in human lands? Is this an awkward attempt to illustrate the fading of humanity from their height? I haven’t reached the end of the questline yet (the level 59 quest Retribution is up next), so if I simply haven’t reached something that answers it or shows more humans yet (preferably as something OTHER than cannon fodder), let me know!

i noticed this with the priory as well, just having alot of asura instead,

the order of whispers however is made up of a larger percentage of humans, maybe even a majority.

imo, it has to do with the fading of humans from not just glory, but the world all together. I find that alot of npcs are Charr, Norn, and Asura. Humans are not around at all, Sylvari are a bit rare too, but alot of scout NPC are Sylvari, but it feels like humans which used to be the only race, are now a dying race. Which I think is why I like them. in GW1, I always wanted to play a charr, cause they felt rare and cool, But now, I feel like “Charr are sooo common!” Humans are a dying race, who have moved to pirating and other…“Shadey” dealings to keep themselves afloat, and that I think is why the order of whispers has alot of Humans and the others have less.

I was going to say maybe its because since Vigil are frontline fighters, Norns and Charr are the most common because of their strength and the Asuras with their MEGA LASER CANNONS PEW PEW though the reason that Humanity falling could be a thing after what the Charr managed to scare the humans of Orr and Ascalon to blowing themselves up. We have to remember though that there is still humans over in Cantha and Elona though right now Elona/The Crystal Desert is being ruled by an undead king. Once we re-establish connections, perhaps Humans can rise once again.

yep, humans are seemingly more numerous in the whispers specifically, possibly because of its origins in Elona

I’ve actually seen a number of sylvari in the Vigil, and one seems to be fairly important, since he’s always hovering around Almoraa and has a name. I have found a human Vigil member of enough note to have a name in Mount Maelstrom. If I’d realized the makeup of the Orders, I might have gone Whispers, though my warrior isn’t extremely subtle. Having my Ascaolonan descended human end up under a Charr was a shock! Teach me to read up on stuff before choosing.

I joined the Order of Whispers, and the Charr NPC who was helping me along kept mentioning how he can’t understand how humans do things, to a very annoying extent. He wondered how we can walk around so quietly, keep our balance without tails, blah blah blah. I turned my music up and ignored him.

It made me think that maybe, since Charr and Norn seem to be very warlike, that they’d make up the majority of the orders (or at least the Vigil). The Priory, however, strikes me as a good place for Humans, since the race of men seems very religious in this game. The Order of Whispers seems a good place for Humans, too, since I can’t imagine that a woman who makes Shaq look like a midget would make a very good spy, nor would a big walking cat.

Still, I’m fine with my “Mentor” being a Charr, since that race apparently invented the Engineer class.

Well, think about it from a lore perspective. Asura are magical geniuses, lab rats, experimentalists…the Priory would be right up their alley. Can’t see many joining the ranks of the Vigil. Meanwhile, the Charr for instance, would be most at home with the Vigil; charging into battle rather than sneaking inthe shadows gathering intel with the Order of Whispers. As players, we can join anything we want. But the NPCs should reflect the general racial tendencies imo.

The order of whispers has a lot of humans due to its origins in a human kingdom, the vigils leader is a charr which could deter some humans and the priory I imagine has the more inqeustive races such as the asura and sylvari.

Whispers is mainly humans because of being able to sneaky sneaky
Vigils are mainly charr/norn because they’re big, dumb and powerful
Priory is mainly asura because of their tech.
