Both of my human females have black hair. The one is meant to be a Kurzick, so she has pale skin and the “gothic” face, and the other one is Elonian, so she’s got darker features. It never crossed my mind to use white hair, because that didn’t fit either of my characters’ concepts. I think there are a few reasons why people use white hair…

1. because of Anime characters.
2. because they’re young, slightly inexperienced guys who want the “hottest” avatar, and white hair is “hot” in their minds
3. because white hair is unusual and symbolizes magic power or uniqueness, and people want their character to have that “magical” vibe
4. because someone is making their best effort to design an older character on the character creator AKA underaged barbie doll creator

I’d guess white hair is popular because it’s one of the more usual and dramatic colours available for humans.

Same way you see a lot more dramatic and contrasting fur patterns on players charr than the NPCs, or more contrast between sylvari skin and glow colours. (Come to think of it the only sylvari NPCs where I noticed the glow are a few Nightmare Courtiers, because they get red on black.)

If humans could have bright red or blue, pink, green etc. hair you’d probably see a lot more of that and a lot less white.

I have to admit it did bother me slightly that my humans black hair would look less striking than usual since I gave her a darker skin colour to reflect her mixed ancesty, aka all my GW1 characters – including 3 elonians. Maybe I was compensating when I gave my charr “zebra” stripes. (Although I wouldn’t call them that to his face and expect to live.)

I would use black hair, but do not, mostly because it tends to make the hairstyle details impossible to see. To me, white isnt ‘super blonde’ or ‘magical’ or ‘anime,’ but simply a replacement for black that doesn’t make the character redhead or brunette.

You should be thankful to this instead.
At least they are going all white instead of going all red.
Red heads everywhere in real just because girls believe to be hotter or better with red hair since red heads are acknowledged as the sexiest girls (stereotypes).
Red hair are good but please, girls dyeing their hair with the same color is boring.
At least in a virtual world where you can choose something different, use some of the other colors, violet or purple perhaps!

My main necromancer has white hair :P but in fact I’ve made him into somewhat a young adult and not a old guy but yes I do see a few people who do have white hair and very little of the new hair colors that you get in the makeover kit

But I think people just like the white hair color I know I do now if only we get new eye colors for the makeover kit

White hair isn’t necessarily “old”. It’s gray hair that is old.

They have pure white hair so they can look like old ladies of course!
