Has anyone chosen the “missed opportunity” personal story option, with something about regretting never taking the chance to join it? How much of a role does that play?

Uhm, not much. You choose what you will do from lvl ~12 to ~19. It’s fun, enjoyed it more than the search for my lost sister

I liked that the circus bit intersected with the Asura Snaff-prize competition.

I liked that the circus bit intersected with the Asura Snaff-prize competition.

I really enjoyed that little crossover. And on a whole I enjoyed the circus storyline, it was fun and a bit less “serious drama” than some of the other early human storylines.

I am doing the Circus storyline on my Mesmer (only 13 currently so I have a ways to go with it still) but I’m enjoying it. A bit of an Alt-aholic, so I already have characters that did/are doing the other two storylines. This is a good one and the unknown parents story is fun as well. I already finished the dead sister storyline and thus far the other two are more fun.

It adds a little bit of flavor to those early story missions, but it doesn’t seem to come in to play after that initial foray.

Here’s a synopsis, as best as I can remember, for anyone not planning on choosing it themselves. Otherwise, it’s a relatively light-hearted series of quests, with mostly investigative tasks interspersed with brief fights. There’s no fighting through big caves or defending through waves of enemies.

  • You get a report from Minister Codesauce that a kid has gone missing at the carnival in Divinity’s Reach. Logan Thackeray notices that Minister Caucadeuce seems particularly agitated, and sends you to investigate.
  • You watch a circus act with your friend from the Street/Commoner/Noble origin, fight a snake that goes out of control, and interrogate the performers about the kid.
  • You hear something about a “Grizwhirl,” investigate a tent on the fairgrounds, and are attacked by some performers who appear hypnotized.
  • Thackeray sends you to infiltrate the circus in Beetletun. Meet the three challenges set by the performers, including a mime battle (easier than the one from Tihark Orchard, thankfully).
  • You check out the warehouse on the Beetletun circus grounds, find the missing kid, along with some more kidnapped children and some more aggressive, hypnotized circus people.
  • Thackeray sends you to attend the new recruit meeting with the ringmaster in Blackroot Cut, Kessex Hills. You are hypnotized and see everyone as monsters. Thackeray shows up, and you regain your senses after beating on him for a bit.
  • You and Thackeray attend the final event at the Divinity’s Reach carnival, where the ringmaster attempts to use the Floating Grizwhirl to hypnotize the audience into assaulting the palace and killing Queen Jennah. You battle him and other circus people with Thackeray and your origin friend.

It’s pretty fun and interesting. I was reluctant to choose it because I feared it would be too lighthearted, but it ties in very well with the political scheming that is going on in the background.

I couldn’t make myself choose it; couldn’t imagine any of my characters would ever want to join a circus

I liked it. It wasn’t nearly as goofy as I had feared. It only really alludes to your desire to join once. I put it on par with basically any other in the game I’ve seen.

It does raise the question though, where in Tyria does one acquire a Russian accent?

The possibility of physical and mental collapse is now very real.
No sympathy for the Devil, keep that in mind.
Buy the ticket, take the ride.

I wonder how the circus line would play out if your friend is dead, considering you can opt for your friend to get killed in the streets storyline

I know this thread is rather old, but I thought I’d opt an answer to the question made before me.

It was actually rather interesting that way and I did wonder how it would play out the other way round.

My friend died in the streets before I got to the Circus line. I met another character there, I can’t remember her name but she was the girl I had to save from the other gang of bandits in order to save my friend from the first gang of bandits.. She’d become my friend, sorta :)

Circus is best because you can beat up Logan.

I’ve finished that quest, and I’m still not entirely sure what a Grizwhirl is… Maybe I wasn’t paying attention?
