The title is pretty clear

If you have a human character which name-surname did you choose, and why? How does it fit to the lore ? Does it have a special meaning, possibly linked to the profession?

Mine is Elora Quenell, female noble Guardian. Elora is an old Greek name meaning “sunlight, ray of light”, which goes nicely with her hair color of gold, and Quenell is deprived from old Anglo-Saxon surname meaning “war woman”.

My Human’s name is Alistair Varen, Male Noble Guardian. To be honest, I just chose Alistair because it sounded cool. However, now that i’ve looked it up, the name is of Greek origin and means “Man’s Defender” or “Protector” it fits amazingly well considering my race and class choice. My last name was just random and I thought it went with Alistair well enough.

In Guild Wars 1 I had a mesmer called Violet Kalit. 250 years later, I have a mesmer called Scarlet Kalit.

My character’s last name is Stormbringer after the Presearing Elementalist (Aeromancer) trainer Ralena Stormbringer in Foible’s Fair. Too bad Air Magic is borderline useless. :-(

Stacey Pilgrim, Scout extraordinaire. I liked the way Stacey was portrayed as always popping up out of nowhere to harass her brother or slickly bailing out when wanted in the Scott Pilgrim movie, so that was my little joke for the Thief class.

That’s not to say I don’t care about lore or RP – my other characters have more lore appropriate names – but she was the little alt that became a main.

King Mantastic

King: for Mantastic is king amongst men.
Mantastic: For Mantastic is a man of most awe inspiring proportions.

My human elementalists name is Loosifah.

Heather Faemark, Ascalon descent.

A Mesmer of Eolan descent, same as my username.
I didn’t want to simply name her the same as my Guild Wars Mesmer, Ayanna Jimiyu, to imply she was some sort of immortal.
I went with the same last name as my original, with a different first name.
The original name’s meaning in Ayanna’s case was “Beautiful Flower Born in the Summer”
Sankofa is a symbol in the Akan language expressing that one must learn from their past. Considering the lessons I learned in the first game, the name is pretty appropriate.

I named my male thief Jiraa. I’m currently writing a story and he’s one of the protagonists, who uses daggers to fight with. Choice for a class was easily made x’D
Also I have a female guardian named Zara of Blood. Also after a character in my story, through the class was rather because I enjoyed playing a guardian during beta. The surname is because she’s quite the killer ^^"

She brings de Saster (oops, “disaster”) wherever she goes.

Invictus Human Warrior. Loved the poem and what the word stands for. Was amazed I was able to get the name at launch.

I did something similar….maybe not as good but…Magnus Lux Militis.

He’s a guardian, and the name as a whole means something close to “Great Knight of the Light” in Latin.

My Female Elementalist is Ascienne Arthe.
Purely Breton name and last name from The Elder Scrolls.

Danielle Aurorel

In lore (lore I’ve made up myself, with ties to the actual lore) she’s named after the most successful of her ancestors (aka my main GW1 character) with not so subtle implications from her family that she’s expected to live up to it. (Her younger twin sister Deborah got off easy in that respect.)

IRL Danielle was just a name I liked back when I was making what was going to be another random UO character and ended up being my main character in every RPG since. Aurorel is a combination of ‘aurora’ and ‘elen’ and means dawn star.

Nicko The Blessed, I didn’t want to put “The Great” cuz that’s just so original.

Xue Yaomei; Necromancer; Canthan.

The name’s meaning should be “Capitaving Snow”(in chinese), if my google skills haven’t failed me. I found it fitting as Grenth is the god of death and ice.

Victor Harrowing; Mesmer; Krytan.

Named after my GW1 character Fiona Harrowing.

The name says it all without embellishment….just wish you could age the characters appearance a little more.

Shinki is just my constant handle and Keraunia is a word from folklore that means “An Axe that fell from the sky in a bolt of lightning”

Odd that the name gets censored like that.

Human Female Thief: Valery Underwood. I know a Valery, and Sara Jean Underwood was on my mind. Mmmm.

Human Male Engineer: Admiral Skrewball. He’s a crazy man, with a scarred face due to one of his numerous ridiculous experiments gone bad.

Human Male Mesmer of Cantha: Zhen Wang. From what I found, Buddhist term meaning “Reality and Illusion”, translated into Mandarin Chinese. Fitting for a Mesmer I though.

Human Female Necromancer: Acolyte Darkheart. Acolyte of Grenth, Darkheart because I wasn’t particularly creative at the time of her making and Darkheart was the best necromancer type surname I could think of.

Human Female Warrior: Alice Riot. Riot Alice, only as a Warrior.

That’s what I named my human warrior. In my native language, the word means brave or courageous. Kind of fitting for a warrior, no? I would have named him “Malakas”, which means “Strong” in my language, but I found out the word Malakas is kind of a bad word in greek :P

As a side note, I saw a human female named “Alison Wonderland”. Made me chuckle.

Anvian Loeclos, Female Human Thief, Albino kitten (Born out of wedlock; you know what I mean) Orrian/Ascalonian heritage (This has something to do with my warped roleplayer’s brain).

The name Anvian I chose after I wanted to name a new character similar to this one, Ana, on another game, to fit her noble family’s naming convention, but coming to Guild Wars 2, I was given more freedom, and so I took the standard (And awesome) -ian suffix for Female Eyriens from Anne Bishop’s The Black Jewels Series of books, and ended up with Anvian

- Coincidentally, Anvian is an anagram of one of my favourite characters’ names, Navani, from the Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson.

Loeclos I decided would be the traditional name given to kittens (Nice censor XD) of the ancient Orrian Noble family, House Ebonlas (You can totally see I’ve been planning to roleplay with her for some time, as I chose this display name based on this).

The name Loeclos itself I actually stole in turn from my favourite series of books, the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss, which is itself an ancient family surname in his story.

Named my Human Warrior after who’m I think to be some of the bravest men I can think of.

Vibor was some generic cthulhu mythos God which sounded engineery.
Bauman is a tribute to Jay Bauman from Red Letter Media.

My guardian is Kara Danvers. She’s pretty much an homage to Supergirl – last daughter of an Ascalonian noble line whose parents disappeared. With the Conqueror’s shoulders and ring mail, it looks like she’s got the red cape over her shoulders; the wings are golden as an artful attempt at the House of El logo, in Guild Wars terms.

Illium Vandimon, Ranger. Same as her ancestor in GW1.

My Elementalist’s name is Roth. An anagram of Thor, and he mains Air magic.
My Guardian is Milennin. Character name I use in every online game I play.

Melchior Caradoc (Human Male Noble, Elementalist 76) was my longest run tabletop-gaming character in a Mage: the Ascension campaign that spanned nearly a decade. I’ve been using his name for online gaming purposes since EQ1, but most heavily in FFXI. I think the only MMO I’ve put serious time into where he wasn’t my main was City of Heroes, where his “modern wizards in a dark urban fantasy” origin didn’t quite jive with the setting.

In his original incarnation, he was a Mage of the Order of Hermes who specialize in Forces magic – Heat, Electromagnetism, Gravity, Light, Kinetic Energy, Nuclear forces, etc. While more than competent in his Order’s focus, his personal specialty was Mind magic – Illusions, Emotions, Telepathy, etc. If I could have traded out the pink and purple crystal butterflies for maybe midnight-blue swirls of raven feathers and autumn leaves, he’d have been a Mesmer. Elementalist is a good second though.

Lunaticia (Human Female Criminal, Mesmer 16) was my City of Heroes main. She was an Electric Melee/Electric Armor Brute. While her name isn’t 100% appropriate for Guild Wars lore, the unexpected demise of City of Heroes necessitated that I bring her here. Mesmer isn’t a close fit for her old powers, but it’s a close fit for her personality, so it’s cool. I’m just assuming she was a street performer with underworld ties, and that was her “stage name”.

Male commoner Tyrone Wise and with his sister both are descendants of Jaguar Wise one of the heroes from Elona who helped Komir gain the power of a god. The mother of them put her heroic family past behind her and traveled to kryta before the the connection between elona and the rest of tyria was broken and still Tyrone and his sister knows nothing of their heroic bloodline.

The last two letters of your first name and the first two letters of your last name are a derogatory term for someone who is Jewish. It probably censors it even if there is a space kitten<-see?

I named my Engineer Ezra Sarona. Name sake dating back to SWG (Ezrat Sraona). Dropped the t and rearranged the last name to make it more fantasy genre friendly.

My mesmer is Jumi Fioren. Jumi/Jume are names I have used on and off in various RPGs for female casters. Fioren I just introduced with this toon.

I also have a human thief named Arcadia Rumen. Came up with it during character generation and liked the flow of it.

Grovecastle.
All my human characters have the surname Grovecastle.
My real surname, Lundborg, is a knight’s name, somewhere along my bloodline someone was knighted, and that name was passed on for generations.
I rather resented my surname, since no one outside of Sweden can pronounce it correctly, and most Swedish people get it wrong (e.g. Lundberg instead of Lundborg).
Since I’ve wanted to move to a different country ever since I was little, I figured I might as well change my name. So I translated my surname, and the result was Grovecastle, which sounds really spiffy.

Thawe Grovecastle is my Elementalist.
I have a few other human characters but I can’t recall their names at the moment.

In GW1, my main was a warrior named ‘Alisha Benn’. When I started GW2, I went with the ancestor bit: the new one is a warrior named ‘Aliana Benn’, and I made them look alike, as well.

It helps with keeping a bit of the familiarity of it, I suppose….

Nice to see such creative ideas for character naming, I for one, had to resort to the cheapest possible way, create a character from an ‘existing character’, Lancelot is the name, my only requisites were it to be a Knight who would fit into the Guardian Profession theme, so far not disappointed!

I have 2 male humans, one warrior and one mesmer.
The warrior’s called Beowulf Wyrmslayer.
First name is obviously nicked from the epic poem, and the second one is a melange.
I made him initially on the release of the first game. There, I’d loved the beta event where wurms popped up in Lion’s Arch and killed us all (the first public sighting of wurms in a Guild Wars game trivia fans!), but I also wanted his name to tie in to dragons, so that’s where Wyrmslayer came from.
Naturally, on early access release of GW2, I did try for simply Beowulf but was too slow. Must have been by seconds.
Still, Wyrmslayer, given the story for Guild Wars 2, is very fitting

My mesmer’s called Nexus Icon, which can be interpreted as a central figure who inspires worship, but is also the name of a song by the British heavy metal band The Wildhearts. The song is about narcissistic rock stars, which I think aptly describes mesmers.

Speaking of The Wildhearts, my Sylvari ranger is simply Wildheart. In the original game she was Wildheart Everlone (another song by the band), but I was really chuffed to get just Wildheart.

Pratelic Dumond, Female Elementalist, raised as commonfolk and has a love for Air magic. roughly 5 foot tall but can bring down Giants with her Mastery of the elements.

Dantaeus X Heardt is my characters name, he isn’t of noble blood but the son of a smith. Destined for greatness and at one with nature. The name comes from an old short story I wrote i liked it and thought it fit well in the world of Tyria.

Charlotte Pendragon, necromancer, as a child got saved by a honorable Blood Legion charr, that came for negotiations with the Shining Blade, from a Renegade ambush that killed her parents, but got him confused to be the actual attacker thus out of fear woke up a summoning ritual for a Reaper of Grenth, offered him eternal loyalty in exchange to empower Grenths blessing thus becoming Lich and lost a big part of her natural eyesight and killing the actual attackers with a horde summoned from the remains of the Blood Legion Charrs Warband that died during the ambush.

Yes i do a lot of backstory based on different legends with their character names (Lotte was a girl saved by Arthur from bandits, followed his example and started to learn magic to protect people, but went rampage and became a “witch” pretty soon when she got that Mordred “fatally” wounded Arthur).
