Are they really good for anything? Given that anything worthwhile costs them + gold, it just seems like a useless waste to have them.

Not sure, although they can drop randomly from enemies, so I wouldn’t think it unreasonable that they can drop from the gear chests.

I’m not interested in the skins, so I’ll probably just focus on buying the rune recipes.
