OP: I understand where you are coming from, but there has to be events that cater toward the crowd that plays a TON. So much of the game is aimed toward letting everyone do everything and for those of us that have maxed out and fully geared 7-8 or more characters we really like it when stuff is made for us to play. The game is fast closing on a year old and maybe you should focus on just getting at least one character to max level and fully geared so that you can enjoy the content too when it happens. Making everything for everyone all the time actually leaves people who have done it all and want a challenge from this game from time to time without an option.

Queen’s Gauntlet will return, possibly as part of the activity rotation or even other events. In any case, you’ll be able to complete those achievements at a later date.

The problem still lies with past events and possible future events. It was an absolute PAIN to get a group to do AR much less try to do it for the achievements simply because I was not a lvl 80. I would assume you will have future events that will work like this.

I think with these instances and or events, people need to be put to lvl 80 with all the skills and traits available. Upscaling seems to work fine stat wise so the problem left is not having double or triple stat gear depending on your level.

There are two design decisions I don’t understand with this content.

Why doesn’t the gauntlet use the sPvP system? It’s supposed to be highly challenging content intended to get you to think about your build and craft up different ways to complete the content. That’s an incredibly unreasonable request for a lot of PvE players given the expense of acquiring different sets of armour. Some people don’t even have one exotic set, let alone multiple ones to try out different builds. Paying to retrait every time you think you want to experiment with a different build is a huge inconvenience. We have a system in the game which perfectly utilises free retraits and multiple gear choices without requiring players grind them out or get to level 80, why didn’t the Gauntlet use it?

The second is the tickets to enter. I have no idea why they exist – it’s just an added grind to gate you from accessing the content. Why doesn’t a “no reward” version of the Gauntlet exist where I don’t need a ticket to enter – but I don’t get a reward bag either? It’s pretty lame to play content without rewards (I guess the achievements are the only incentive at that point) but it’s even more lame to attempt the Gauntlet and find out you need to grind out more tickets to continue because they Gauntlet itself rarely awards them and you burn through them quickly. The tickets harm the experience more than they help it – if I want to try the Gauntlet, I don’t want to jump down and farm a bunch of tickets or spend a small fortune acquiring them. What’s worse is the tickets are soulbound, so if I play one character a lot but I want to go for the higher tier challenges on another, I can’t utilise all the entrance tickets in their inventory. I have no intention of doing the Gauntlet on my warrior but I’ve been playing him in a lot of dungeons since the patch, I have lots of tickets in my inventory that I simply can’t use and I now have to resentfully purchase tickets on my ranger while the ones of my other characters are collecting dust. It’s yet another incidental casualty in ArenaNet’s increasingly aggressive war on multiple character playing accounts, and most bizarrely, they patched it to work that way.

Please note that it’s very important that the achievements done later should be retroactively assigned to the Gauntlet tab. We don’t want a new tab with new achievements like you did for crab toss and other activities.

Thank you for the clarification, Anthony! It’s very reassuring to know that, if a player just doesn’t have the gear or the skills to complete the Gauntlet at this time, they can try again at a later date when the Gauntlet returns and they’ve had a chance to improve themselves.

I’d just like to echo pavo’s request that the achievements remain in its existing tab and not get a whole bunch of similar (but new) achievements like we did for Crab Toss and the other activities. I’d also like clarification that the Liadri mini will also still be obtainable if we complete the Gauntlet in the future when it returns.

I’m sure I’m NOT the only one that has issues in real life that limit my ability to play games but when I can play a game I like to be able to play almost all elements of it.

….I’m not trying to get it catered to my life lol.

I don’t know if any of you even remember what was said when this game was created but the fact that it was a game that was built to cater players of all levels was what hooked me in.

Do you not even see yourself contradicting your own points? Yes you are trying to get it catered to your life and yes, of all levels would seem to include more “hardcore” people as well as the casual.

Why not make it a PvP instance? That way, people could actually play on their low-level alts and use appropriate alts for appropriate bosses. It’s still difficult with a level 80 char with full exotic gear. And some professions are better than others. Also, you can’t freely re-trait your character in PvE, as you can in PvP, which would also help to beat these bosses. And, it being an instance wouldn’t kill graphics cards as much, which is important as it’s a timed thing. Plus, they soulbind tickets to your low-level alts so, obviously alts were intended to be used, but giving them to level 2s, as-is, is a waste.

This whole thread is rediculous.

Im going to make a slightly exagerated analogy to the real world here.

OP is a 4 year old toddler that wants to earn the same paycheck a PHD graduate has, and he wants it now, instantly, since the PHD graduate gets it somehow, he should get it too, else its no fair.
Not too forget, in this analogy, the entire world except for “the paycheck/reward/this particular achievement” is already cathered to the toddler into the extreme.

You can literally do everything except for something most people with even 1000hours+ playtime and fully geared chars cant and you complain its not fair?

What is your viewpoint of fairness then? Regardless how hard anyone “worked” on their character development/gearing/… they should only be able to achieve the same things you can else you feel like its not fair?

Op you just sound spoiled troughout the entire thread. Hope its not offensive, its not meant that way. But seriously, you needed a reality check.

just read the opening post so far, totally agree
i was thinking to myself, how are newer players even suppose to get to the balloons in the non-starter areas.. anyway, i just did all the balloon achievements.. now for the gauntlet achievements. from what i hear, it’s not going to be much fun.. going into the “crown pavilion” i had high hopes.. but the arena seems to be an amalgamation of garbage
really, i’ve only done about 3 ‘gambits’ so far but i can imagine it takes not only trait changes but possibly buying high end gear for some players..
content for farm, zerg, high end gear, i want it difficult with a big reward and if i don’t have the talent i’ll borrow a build and pay for boosters players
i’m not saying content can’t be difficult, but we’re getting to the 1 year mark for gw2 and this event just seems like they’re showing us all what a bad place the game is in

this is just my opinion, but i think the world of tyria got sidetracked for real world issues
gw2 seems like a half hearted experiment that isn’t really headed anywhere good

What special? Time restriction (non repeatable) is an awful mechanic. You are only special becouse you were able to be at the right place at the right time. How is that special? When QG will return, people will still need to beat her, its not like they will get their achivement for nothing.

Reality check is that OP might be complaining that he will not be able to level and gear a character before the event will be gone permanently. That is a valid complain. Anthony confirmed that this is not the case as QG will return in the future. That solves the issue for OP and from the design standpoint satisfies me as well.

I agree with the OP. I think that in general level scaling does not work as it should. When downscaled, you’re far too powerful in lower level zones (because of traits and gear). When upscaled to 80, you you don’t have the required damage/survivability/skills. Wish ANet had ditched the concept of ‘leveling’ from the get-go. Too late for it now.

Also, got to love the atmosphere in this thread with keywords such as ‘casual’ and ‘cater’. Some of you apparently can’t understand that not everyone has been playing this game since the headstart and not everyone has an 80. I’m not surprised the Gauntlet is popular among the ‘ex-WoW elitists’ because it uses some similar WoW-raid mechanics. You people have a wrong notion of ‘game difficulty’.

Oooo Aisina how did you do that? Thank you Gulesave I will try that!

Really pleased the Gauntlet will be back! Like I said challenges are brilliant, I’m just pleased it won’t be a time-limited one! The regular updates are awesome, and I certainly don’t expect the game to stand still for me, I just want a chance at completing my collection as collecting is quite an attraction for a lot of people (thanks Thomassassinate for asking about that!). I really hope the mini-pet stays available, but either way I am going to try to quickly level my character and get through the Gauntlet before it finishes this time! If the Pavilion stays available that would be good too, especially as there are so many skins to buy – I wondered if they would still be buyable later.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Everyone is just giving their opinion though and how they feel, I don’t think there is any need to criticise or make fun of anyone, or make assumptions or be rude – we are meant to be a community. Anyway, all’s well that ends well

Actually, it can (for several gauntlet enemies). But only a character with pet such as ranger and necromancer (your pet is not upscaled) and probably guard and mesmer (warr and thief seems impossible, engi and ele may be possible). But it does not mean: you can beat the gauntlet with lvl 2 character. I had test this with lvl 50 ranger and beat the deadeye in 2 minutes.

I also agree with you Awe, it’s the time restriction that is the problem – particularly if something really awful or urgent happens in real life. But if QG comes back and is around until 2nd September this time as lordkrall said I am happy. Hopefully that is a solution that pleases everyone, as it is important to have difficult challenges that not everyone can do, as well as give people a chance to level their character to a point where they can try it before it disappears forever.

actually read through the posts now, some good points.. but again i think people are making things more complicated than it has to be
Arenanet’s inability to create varied difficulties and award accordingly is just appalling, if not laughable

they can’t build a mediocre arena, and a difficult arena
they can’t build a mini, and then build a rather similar mini
it’s a gold, silver, bronze mentality and it’s not entirely new or hard to grasp

if people collecting the minis look back at their collection “oh, i didn’t get that one because i didn’t have time or i couldn’t do hard mode, but i have the similar one” is much better than “nice empty slot there because Arenanet felt like punishing a huge chunk of the player base”
you can see where i’m going with this? i know it’s like rocket science, try to keep up
then there will be players who accomplished hard mode and will have the “high end” mini and maybe even both {along with all the bragging rights}

just as much as i think the character scaling feature works and players shouldn’t just show up today and expect story completion tomorrow, i also believe Arenanet was simply lazy and decided to somewhat exclude new players in the current living world content

and lastly, “what about my high risk high reward” policy
remember, being a chest thumping nine year old is its own reward
ask arenanet to put a little badge somewhere for you
for your ultra difficult content completion

Without gambit. Shortbow, axe/axe, pet cat type which have good dmg (and leap for knockdown). The only thing you need to beware is deadeye’s killshot, the other, let your pet tank (deadeye cannot kill your cat anyway). if your axe 5 in cd. With lvl 60, you have access to signet affect you too. This will increase your damage output and your survivalbility. (you may want to use sic em than guard if you confidence).

I remember some of the best times I had playing GW1 was when I beat a dungeon or boss with literally a sliver of health left and the realization that I would have to do it all over again if I didn’t get my next skill off before your opponent did. The stakes being that high made the victory all that much better. I think that is behind this release of the Gauntlet, which is not to say that future editions will be any different. I think (totally conjecture on my part) that some of the allure is that you do have to pay to get in, you do have to pay to change your current build, and you do have to be pretty good to advance (I’m not all that good and I have a tough time). But I think this is exactly what was intended – every fight is huge because you do have something to lose (tickets, build costs, yout time, etc…) You don’t just fight, get beat, then stand in line again. It’s about taking your best into the arena, waging war with your best, then maybe getting humbled. And then picking yourself back up and learning what you could have done differently and going at it again. Not paying anything trivializes the ultimate victory. Blood, sweat and tears – that’s what makes a champion. Thanks to Anet for putting the bar high in this one and giving me something to shoot for.

I’m assuming by ‘that’ you mean level up so quick? I find players who don’t have the time to play means that they’re working, which means they have more disposable income. Stock up on Gems and convert, then use a crafting site like : www.gw2crafts.net : to make sure you get the most from your money. Level through crafting, then craft your gear. Dead quick and easy.

If I don’t craft it takes me about a weekend to level up an 80 just zone running.

I think its good to have an activity such as this for max level characters only. I have no problem with that.

I would suggest that they label it as such and make the tickets account bound, not soulbound. It is misleading for each character to get tickets that are soulbound to an activity that really isn’t meant for them if they are not max level. It also means that you should only be playing on the character that you want to do the gauntlet with for the duration. Otherwise you will be getting unusable tickets on other characters.

If you watched their live stream for this event, that was their intention by putting it into a different achievement panel. Personally, I thought that was just a silly idea, and didn’t realize why they had to do it (I’m of the mind set I’ll try something until I don’t think it’s worth it anymore and then I’ll move on), but with the amount of complaints I guess I’m in the minority with self regulation.

Also the tickets were account bound, but because of people exploiting the system they were changed to soul bound. People were making new characters, claiming the 5 tickets from the mail and then deleting that character (rinse and repeat). So if you want someone to blame for that, you can blame the greedy/exploiting portion of the player base. It would be nice if they included an option for those of us with alts that don’t have a shot yet in the battles (I’d pay 1-2s per ticket just to transfer them to my main), but I realize that’s a lot to ask for for a quick patch to an “unforeseen” exploit (though I think something like this has happened 2-3 times already, though I assume not with this particular LS team).

Though the tickets being sole bound really only effects you if you’d like to level alts in the pavilion.

lol, thank GOD they didn’t try to tune Queen’s Gauntlet for upscaled players. The game is severely lacking in endgame content and challenge for people who have maxed out their gear. It needed something like this to give players a challenge and force them to reconsider builds in classes they’ve probably been using for close to a year now. This is EXACTLY the kind of content the game needed.

The whole idea that all content needs to be catered to every type of player is what led to some really stagnant content across a lot of the Living World updates. You just can’t build something that’s supposed to be easy enough for people at level 1 (upscaled but without armor/runes or all their skills) and yet still somehow challenge maxed out players. The only solution is to offer something for each. And that’s exactly what they’ve done. The Crown Pavilion exists for low level players; they can join zergs, level quickly, or they can go to balloon towers and fight the champions there. The gauntlet is there for the higher-end players, but it’s in the same zone AND allows the other players to watch and see the content to give them something to work towards. It was an absolutely brilliant implementation (the only drawbacks are queue times, but I imagine there are ways to fix that), and something ANet should be commended for.

We need more content like this; progressive challenge for the higher end player. Unlike say… WoW, where the gear tier is constantly advancing, GW2’s is pretty set in stone and easy to achieve. The max level, full exotic player isn’t such a rare minority in this game. And after a year of playing, these people need more additions that challenge and cater to them. I don’t understand this mindset that low-level players need to be able to experience all of these updates in their entirety. The whole base game is designed around low level players, and frankly, that leveling content was some of the best stuff in this game. Finish the game first, and then there’ll be brand new content waiting for you when you’re done.

Just food for thought.

Majority of today’s gamers can not complete Level 1 of Super Mario Brothers.

And to quote Ramin Shokrizade

“You will see that the latest generation of casual gamers is actually somewhat crippled in their ability to master even simple games compared to the previous generation. I propose that this is because this generation is so over stimulated compared to previous generations that the reward mechanisms for games have to be stronger and more quickly delivered to capture the attention of contemporary audiences or otherwise they get bored/discouraged much more quickly.”

Reality check is that OP might be complaining that he will not be able to level and gear a character before the event will be gone permanently. That is a valid complain. Anthony confirmed that this is not the case as QG will return in the future. That solves the issue for OP and from the design standpoint satisfies me as well.

I’m happy to know that there exists a person that actually noticed my original complaint. You are correct in that I was complaining as I originally thought the whole thing would be gone permanently after 2 weeks. Thanks for being a star and pointing it out… thought me not realising that it was going to be there after pointed it out though.

As for you JackBeShipping, if I am as you say a 4 year old toddler, I am sure my family and friends are quite proud of me for being able to write in such a manner and even understand a game as complex as Guild Wars 2. Heck the fact that this 4 year old toddler can use a computer so well must mean that i’ll sometime in the future become a Genius and my family will become rich.

Stupidity at it’s best. You sir clearly did not understand my posts.

I am satisfied now that I understand the Queens Gauntlet will be back again… even though I may have more complaints with it’s design process.

The main issue with catering it to upscaled characters would mean that it would suddenly be extremely easy to do on an actual lvl 80 character, which would defeat the whole purpose of the event.

You don’t have to cater the mobs to the upscaled players, you can cater the upscaled players to the mobs.

Increase the stats on upscaled players.

Having said that, I ran my level 5 mesmer in there. You just need to stay out of the fields while tagging as much as possible. I run full power/precision stats just to make sure I can tag things – no point using vitality/toughness because you’ll die in 1 or 2 shots with or without the toughness/vitality stats.

But then why would anyone bother leveling and gearing up their character? And even if you increase the stats the upscaled guy will still lack traits and skills, which would mean he would always be weaker than a true lvl 80.

As for the second part you are talking about a completely different thing. You are talking about the mob farming down below. The topic is about the solo-Gauntlet in the small arenas overhead.

I am terribly sorry if i offended you, I in no way meant to say you were a toddler. I am just trying to use 2 extremes from the real world (a toddler with no job skills vs a highly educated grown up) to compare that to a lvl 10 vs a fully ascended geared lvl 80 in guild wars. And trying to say those 2 cannot accomplish challenges equally well.

Again, I dont really want to expand on this further, but I do apologise, it was never my intention to make it look as if I (or anyone should) look towards you as if you are an actual toddler. I totally understand that some people have less time to play, as I sometimes myself take multi-month breaks because of real life being too swamped. So I apologise if my post came off harsher then it was supposed to.

Queen’s Gauntlet will return, possibly as part of the activity rotation or even other events. In any case, you’ll be able to complete those achievements at a later date.

would we still get a chance of getting the Liadri mini pet at a later date?

Just food for thought.

Majority of today’s gamers can not complete Level 1 of Super Mario Brothers.

http://www.p4rgaming.com/majority-of-gamers-today-cant-finish-level-1-in-super-mario-bros/

That is not true. The original article everyone seems to copy was from a joke gaming website. So many news sites reported it as true based off word of mouth.

I sense a social contract being made here. A representative of ANet has stated, without mincing words of veiling their intentions, that regardless of circumstances (which is what “In any case” means) we are going to be able to complete the Gauntlet, which means they’re going to eventually dumb it down so that everyone can get the achievements.

This will, of course, lead to the hipsters… I mean hardcores… demanding new achievements that state that they did it when it was still hard. Don’t you just hate hipsters?

“People don’t hate Scarlet the way Game of Thrones
fans hate Joffrey. They hate her the way Star Wars
fans hate Jar Jar Binks.”-not a direct quote, but still true.

That’s….really not what he said at all. Is the sense of entitlement so strong that people will intentionally misinterpret words now?

Yeah, god forbid people enjoying being challenged and/or being directly or indirectly competitive in a game.

Any sufficiently advanced skill is indistinguishable from luck.

In that case I also apologise to you. I’ve had a fair few bashes from some players for this thread, but my original reason for posting was because I believed it was only for 2 weeks and would be gone permanently afterwards.

Since that isn’t so, I don’t mind continuing to level and then facing the challenge when I can

We all see what we want to see. Is it so bad to see that poorly chosen words with many meanings could be interpreted this way? I think that it’s delightful.

Now who’s reading new meaning into someone else’s words?

That wasn’t “interpretation” it was grasping at straws pretty hardcore.

Now who’s reading new meaning into someone else’s words?

Calling a segment of players “hipsters” in a clearly insulting way and then asking “Don’t you just hate them?” seems pretty clear. =)

If you’re going to be rude, we’re not going to be able to keep up the discussion. Really, that wasn’t all that much of a stretch. I feel that I was actually pretty close to the intent of the message. After all, nerfing content is standard fare these days. Release it at it’s hard mode, then, after it’s been out a while, nerf it down to attract the people who didn’t do it because it was “too hard”. Where’s the stretch? Whare are those straws I was grasping for?

Now who’s reading new meaning into someone else’s words?

And their elitist attitudes that turn games toxic don’t bring any of that on them? Take some responsibility for your actions. You act like the hate comes from nowhere. If that was true, the mods would be more active, but since it has a source, they either have to remove every comment that provokes the response, and the responses (which they have done before, so I know they’re up to the challenge) , or you can ratchet back down the rhetoric and we can keep this civil.

The attitudes of hardcores, who do content that “bads” can’t do is exactly, without translation or interpretation, the same as hipsters claiming to be into things that others don’t know about or liking things before they were popular. It is an apt comparison, and one that they have brought completely on themselves with their attitudes and dismissive mannerisms. If they don’t want to fall into that way of being perceived, they shouldn’t act like that.

And no, no one likes hipsters. They’re snooty, obnoxious people with no socially redeeming qualities, so poking fun at them is fair game. After all, one has to self-identify as one to be offended. Again, ratchet your rhetoric back down a couple notches.

The hate usually comes from people raging over not getting things they feel entitled to. Look at the threads on this board…tons and tons of them with rabid, frothing at the mouth, raging attitudes about not getting an achievement or mini that they want. Not as replies to some “elitist” post, but posted all on their own because they’re angry.

The attitudes of hardcores, who do content that “bads” can’t do is exactly, without translation or interpretation, the same as hipsters claiming to be into things that others don’t know about or liking things before they were popular.

It’s not the same thing at all. That’s just you finding another way to make an insult.

It is an apt comparison, and one that they have brought completely on themselves with their attitudes and dismissive mannerisms.p

Again, look at this forum. There are an absolute ton of posts by “hardcores” trying to offer advice, posting videos, posting build and strategy suggestions, and many of them are still just met with anger from people. This picture you’re painting is – quite honestly – pure fiction.

Again, ratchet your rhetoric back down a couple notches.

Don’t be that guy. No one is fooled by it, and no one appreciates that guy who throws out sneaky little insults and then acts like he has no idea why his target took them the way they did.

Any sufficiently advanced skill is indistinguishable from luck.
