So here’s what you’d call another QQ post most likely but i’m going to write it anyway.

I love Guild Wars 2, I had been following it since they announced it years and years ago that they planned to work on it, years before they announced the release. When I bought it I was so pleased with it, I love to play it. I enjoyed the fact that I wasn’t left out in events or WvW because I was a low level being upscaled. This to me meant that even though I had no time to play often, I could enjoy the content like everyone else.

That is, until Arena Net decided the players needed a super challenge that throws you into the gauntlet from hell where it’s nigh on impossible to kill any of the bosses unless you have access to a level 80 character with a full build.

I like to play games in Moderation without rushing which is why I don’t have a full level 80 character yet. I don’t want to get bored so easily. I also don’t have the time to play much and hardly ever get around to completing the full living world achievements.

The Queens Gauntlet idea is awesome, but unless you have access to full traits and a majority of the skills, you may as well just give it up. I want to do this so much but it frustrates me to the point of having to log off or else i may just throw my Mac across the room, and it’s expensive, i don’t want to do that.

So my question is to Arena Net: When you guys developed this event did you really sit down an think about those players without a level 80 and if they would be able to complete this too? Because judging by the majority of posts among other things, you missed out these players or overlooked this small but important fact.

For once in all of my GW2 days I am unable to fully participate in an event due to the fact that I am upscaled to level 80 and I don’t have full exotic gear or skills.

Players have said to me something along the lines of: “go level then” and “You want to complete something that most level 80’s in full exotic gear find near enough impossible?”

I got to Windcaller Kaldia in Tier 1… but i’ll be lucky if I see anything passed her with my characters having hardly any skill for stability.

Just another rant from a long time low levelled player.

ArenaNet talked about this, specifically, before. They separated the achievements for this episode of the living story, creating one set for casual players and another for more devoted players. Given that their aim with the gauntlet was to make something difficult for maxed out characters (not just in level, but in gear), I don’t think it’s fair to complain about the difficulty.

That said, complain about the logistics all you want (queue times, waiting on revives, lag, etc).

I wouldn’t try any of this on an upscaled character. Maybe the first few you could do (dunno haven’t tried), but it’d be harder for the later ones. Does that suck? Yeah kind of does. It means you really can’t do most of this content without an 80.

A few things they could’ve done to improve it; fix all bugs, make it instanced, and then make the fights without gambits easier so anyone could basically do them as long as they follow the mechanics for the most part. Then allow people to up the difficulty via the gambits and then hand out rewards for those. That way everyone can experience the fights, but only those who are doing them with the gambits can get the rewards.

Well given that there are new players about as well that may just want to gain these achievements too so that they may also feel included in the game I think I myself and they have the right to complain about this. Perhaps I would also like all the achievements and the miniature gained from completion of the gauntlet ones just like everyone else?

How is it not fair? Sure they may have wanted to make it more challenging for players with level 80 exotics but how about making something that us upscaled players can enjoy without the loss of an entire line of achievements?

It would have been better instanced for example or better to make it a level 80 zone or to explain to every player out there that have no level 80 character that they’re not included in the Gauntlet fights.

I like gathering achievements but I also don’t have as much time as some players may have so I can’t dedicate my time to levelling to 80 and gaining exotics.

I do feel really left out with it

It will? I never really got the chance to read up about it, been doing too much lately so I an go back to college properly in September.

I thought the gauntlets were only for this 2 weeks as part of the living world but if they’ll be back again and again that would be nice. Is this posted somewhere?

We still want to have some content that can happen each year, our holiday festivals, Super Adventure Box, Zephyr Sanctum, and the new Queens Gauntlet are all intended to be content that will regularly return. The goal of having these in our portfolio of event content that can occur again each year is they allow us the opportunity to easily build on something we’ve already completed as themes for some of our releases for year 2.

Makes sense I guess. It’s still a bit sad that i’m unable to participate in this fully. As fizzy pop stated, they could have done something to improve it such as making it instanced or even making it like the pvp zones where you have the ability to use all your skills and traits at level 80.

It’s good for those that want the challenge I agree… I also like the challenge but it’s a lot harder for me with hardly any traits.

The Queen’s Gauntlet is NOT for everyone. It was designed that way. Even those with fully geared lv 80 characters can’t do it. So unfortunately, if you can’t do it, you can’t do it. Move on to other content that would suit your play-style better.

It’s unrealistic for you to expect to be able to do every single thing in a game like this. That may sound harsh, but it’s the truth. I’ve missed out on a lot of living story achievements because I took a break from the game for a while, and I could feel left out if I dwelled on that, but I don’t. I made a choice to not play during those months. You’ve also made a choice, to not level a character up to 80 quickly (you could easily start a new character and get to 80 during this 2-week period).

Games without challenges are boring.

Missing out because I may not have time and missing out because I literally don’t have the power to complete the achievements is different. I miss out on a lot of the events. I don’t think i’ve ever been at an event where i’ve got 16 of 16 achievements in living world content and I am fully aware I am able to do so with this event as the Gauntlet achievements are separated. I still would have liked the opportunity to be able to attempt this with a fair fighting chance. For the lulz I even took a level 4 engineer into a battle and if it would have been possible to do more damage I would have killed Halmi with her but the lack of damage in the 2 minute timeframe is impossible anyhow.

You say I could make a new character and level to 80 in this 2 week period, sure if I had the time to play the game. it is now 1am my time. I can play for like 2 hours in a night at most at the moment with the amount I have to do in the day time. When I go back to college i’ll be lucky to get that with the amount of work required to pass a year.

I chose to level in moderation but even if I didn’t I still wouldn’t be able to do so in 2 weeks lol

You’re missing the point here. Even with a lv 80 character doesn’t guarantee you’ll finish the content. The main factor in play is skill level. Casual or Hardcore players all have different levels of skill. The Queen’s Gauntlet forces you to play at the top of your game. So don’t feel bad that you’re missing out. I still haven’t beaten the challenge, and I’m a fully Exotic/Ascended lv 80. If my skill level isn’t up to par for this, then I’ll miss out too.

So the whole playerbase should have to cater to you and nobody should be allowed to have a challenge any harder then whatever YOU can handle due to your own life situation that doesn’t allow you to play as much as you want..

Sure sounds really fair.

If the game and completing everything in it is so important to you, then find a way to dedicated more time to it. If not, then accept you cant have your cake and eat it too and quit trying to get an entire game catered to your life.

I’m not talking about JUST me… I’m talking about others that are UPSCALED. I’m sure I’m NOT the only one that has issues in real life that limit my ability to play games but when I can play a game I like to be able to play almost all elements of it.

I’m not trying to get it catered to my life lol.

I don’t know if any of you even remember what was said when this game was created but the fact that it was a game that was built to cater players of all levels was what hooked me in.

The fact that it was said that even if you didn’t have time to play the game and you joined an event or WvW, it would upscale you to have a chance like all other players was greatly appealing. The game was built so that players could play how THEY wanted to play and wasn’t forced to do anything. I’m not forced to do this either sure enough.

My point is, I WANT to participate in the gauntlets and sure I keep dying over and over again. I WANT to play it and I love the challenge but I can’t do what I want to do fully because it was designed for players in full exotics.

Think of it this way… It’s Queen Jennah’s Jubilee… a MAJOR event in the lore but a simple lowbie can’t participate in 1 main element of the Jubilee… Sure i’m a bit saddened by it.

As for you dank, sure i’ll just go ahead and quit college and everything else so I can dedicate my time to Guild wars 2 for an event that is going to last only for 2 weeks and may or may not be seen until next year. Sounds like the perfect idea.

I was keeping this as a discussion about the challenge being only for those with a fully geared level 80, which I don’t have.

I like to gather achievements and i’m sure many others do also. If this was catered for level 80 characters then perhaps they should have stamped that across all the achievements or made it so that they weren’t linked to achieves for them achievement hunters.

I know in my life there is no possible way to complete every single achievement in the game without dedicating full time doing so.

All I wanted was a fighting chance in this where I perhaps didn’t need to worry about being dropped to my doom for taking too long even when I was doing pretty well dodging etc.

Apparently it’s too much to ask for.

You do have a chance when you’re upscaled, you just have to be REALLY good. Apparently you’re not good enough. Want evidence? I completed tier 1 and a couple tier 2 fights with an upscaled mesmer (wearing blues and greens that were 1-10 levels below mine). I wasn’t able to beat the final tier 2 fight with that upscaled character, though. I wasn’t good enough.

Well sure I can dodge tornadoes and the knock backs but that and attack and do it in the timeframe too? Ouch much.

I do know that with that boss you need stability but I haven’t got a skill on my thief with stability that I can see. Feel free to point out a weapon or skill that has it that will give me a little more chance. at beating her. I came close to beating her but then the countdown came and I came crashing down to the ground… sadly. I would have rather died so I could be revived by my friend

Feel free to demonstrate to me an upscaled character completing this to the end considering it’s been said that 5 or 6 testers out of a whole 100 completed all the tiers. That kinda sais a LOT you know.

It also goes against what the game was originally built for. Accessibility, being downscaled to level with friends or upscaled for events.

I played in dungeons in Halloween events and did a lot better than this Gauntlet and it was a hell of a lot more fun. Games are meant to be fun… and yet i’ve seen countless threads of complaints from players that have felt like quitting entirely because of one tiny addition in the game making them feel horrible.

I have some skill but I thought Guild Wars 2 was meant to be based around the way you wanted to play it. Now you NEED to have a certain BUILD to win?! That’s not based on play style really…

Yes i’m ranting, Yes I care about being able to participate in this event fully, No i know I can’t do much but at least I know now that Arena Net catered this for level 80’s in full gear and not for upscaled players.

Now I hope they can create a challenge catered for upscaled players that will make it a challenge for us and a steamroll for you guys so you can all rant about it being too easy while we actually have fun completing the challenge.

The game as a whole allows you to be downscaled to play with friends, and upscaled in certain events.

The Queen’s Gauntlet, on the other hand, is the “Elite” dungeon. It was created specifically to be uber hard so that only the tiny, epic upper echelon of players would be able to finish it. Having only 5 testers out of 100 complete it speaks volumes.

Fair enough but if it was designed for that purpose they should have it stated on the main page for the Queens Jubilee. And if they did put it on there fair enough I didn’t see it, but if they didn’t then they should do so players know that it’s for those super elite players.

I like challenges and sure enough I’ll do this one day… but am I going to see it properly again?

Another Idea would be to make it an arena accessible any time so that players can face the challenge when they have the time to do so, I think that would be great and a great use of the arena added in the area that was a giant hole before.

It’s the fact I only have these 2 weeks that annoys me slightly. I’d like to be able to have a chance at it. I don’t care if it’s hard, I’m happy almost killing tornado woman, and i’d be happier if I do kill her. I’d be even happier if I can complete this entirely but I know I won’t be able to in 2 weeks hence my issue.

And what class where you Shostie and your level? Some classes will have some issues. I know it’s possible. My boyfriend had a lvl 42 upscaled warrior with the on fire gambit and finally after a bazillion tries he managed to complete it. I came close and then the tornadoes got me… FoV visibility annoyance much… run into the walls and it’s like playing blind

I coulda got her but once you’ve fought enough you just can’t do it if you get too annoyed… I know from gaming experience the harder you try and the more annoyed and frustrated you get, the less chance of completing something. I left it a whole day to try again but failed miserably on my thief which is lvl 38.

I’ll try again at lvl 40 and see how I do with 20 traits in 1 trait bar perhaps.

Mesmer, around level 60. You’re trying to do these before you’re level 40? That’s your problem. You can’t do most dungeons at that level, either. There’s lots of content that is out of your range if you’re not level 40 yet. All the of dungeons, except AC (so not being able to do something because of your level is nothing new). You can’t expect to do elite level stuff with only 10 trait points per line and missing most of your skills. You have a shell of a character.

They split Queen’s Jubilee and Queen’s Gauntlet achievement and if you look, they use different icon design. Queen’s Jubilee uses Living Story design and Queen’s Gauntlet uses Activities design.

Think of it in a way where the Queen’s Gauntlet is introduced along with the Queen’s Jubilee, but isn’t tied specifically to the Jubilee.

Also if previous Living Story is used as reference, both Queen’s Jubilee and Queen’s Gauntlet will be here for 4 weeks, not 2 weeks.

i’m against the concept that all content should be balanced for all players. i thought it was cool of ANet to finally put out content that requires not only a very skilled player, but a well prepared character.

if they had balanced the gauntlet to make it doable on uplevels, then it would be easy for lv80s.

plus, the gauntlet is recurring. if you feel you’ve been left out (even though you shouldn’t, there’s plenty of content for lower-level players), then there will be next time.

also, i must say i’m surprised you had the game since launch and still haven’t gotten your hands on a lv80 character. not criticizing or blaming you, just honestly surprised, given how easy to level the game is.

Took me 5 tries, upscaling is fine if you gear the character up properly. The main problem with upscaled characters is that they’re all in random leveling gear while level 80 characters are most often in the best possible (or nearly) gear for their level.

If ungeared low level characters were upscaled to the power level of an 80 in exotics you could just imagine the kind of monsters geared up upscaled characters would be.

The problem with this event is even on a fully decked out 80, it isn’t possible on many builds meaning it pigeon-holes you into specific builds. Couple this with the fact that certain classes have clear advantages in the arena over others.. so for those whom don’t have 80’s on their classes are at a severe disadvantage.

They are on the right track with the event, but they didn’t think it through well enough before executing it.

This is the type of thing that will push more people away from the game, rather than draw them in. Whether people like it or not, casuals vastly dominate the game over hardcore players, and thus to keep a strong game going, it needs to cater to them. All achievements need to be made available for good ole Joe blow who may play 6hrs a week at max and have no 80’s.

Yes this event is harder than hell, however, it is possible on upscaled characters. I took out most of the gauntlet on my 27 ranger. And a guildie did all of it on his 35 warrior. Once you know the trick to each fight it really becomes a lot easier.

I do know it is possible on an upscaled character and I am aware of some of the tricks to some of the fights, but knowing them doesn’t always help. Sometimes i’ll get them almost all the way down and other times i’ll get them half way down despite doing the same amount of damage. My boyfriend and I think it’s also based on luck given the fact that we can use the same skills and build and either win 1 time and die the next on the same boss.

As for those surprised by the fact I don’t have a level 80 yet since I had the game at launch and was in the headstart etc… That’s because I don’t always have time to play and I also like rotating to different characters so I don’t get bored after playing one too long.

I, like Jinkai, have had the game since the head-start. I played the beta, and got almost all the achievements for Guild Wars 1. However, as I have got older, I have more responsibilities and I have less time to play. I do so whenever I have the chance, and I have various characters at different levels, but my highest currently is a level 64 Ranger, and like Jinkai I like that I don’t have to lose out in events, but completely have no problem if I do, as that is my own problem for not being able to play much. I have managed to kill Windcaller Kieldia, but however much I change my build, I have no chance with Suriel the Blazing Light.

I totally think that there should be advanced content for heavier players (although I don’t believe that you can measure devotion by this – I am devoted to Guild Wars, I have been since the first one came out years ago, and I have every possible item out there related to it), however, my problem is giving a special mini-pet as an account bound pet. Of course there should be elite items that you can only get at certain times, but I have been collecting every single mini-pet (which gives you no in game advantage at all, it is just cosmetic and collectible), even spending real money sometimes to get them (which I hate doing – particularly if there is no other way of getting them and they are only available once ever in the game), and now I am always going to have a greyed out box in my mini-pet collection, looking at me for eternity as a symbol of my failure! I just wish that they could have had a different reward if they had known that not all players would even have an opportunity to try for it, for something that is such a collectible and not just a prestige item – as Smooth Penguin said, “only the tiny, epic upper echelon of players would be able to finish it” – which is great, but by tying such a collectible to it now means it feels like there is no point continuing to collect as my collection will never be complete. As has been mentioned in this thread, the game is about how different people want to play, and different people love different things. I love mini-pets

I don’t mind about the achievements – I love getting them but if I can’t do something, I can’t do it, but I really wish there was some way of getting that mini-pet… If I knew the Gauntlet was coming back and that reward would still be available I wouldn’t mind so much, but I imagine this is our only opportunity I agree that it would be an awesome addition if it could be around for longer than just the event… I am just going to try to level my ranger as much as I can in the next few weeks, but as we are moving house on Thursday I doubt I will be able to get to 80!

I do also think that if it is about skill, it should be about skill – but here you have to be level 80, ascended, have the skill, and the right class – DeadlySynz makes a good point.. Plus it would have been useful to know that I had no chance before spending many hours trying when I could have been levelling If it really is possible on an up-scaled character though and anyone has any tips for me, please let me know! Perhaps I am just not good enough…

At least all of the dungeons state that you can’t do them until a certain level… you can’t even enter some without being that level (i think?)

I don’t think so, I vaguely recalling doing a AC EXP run with a level 12 in our party near release.

Hm, so ur talking about that these players, who dont want a challenge should gain these achiv’s and items, titles etc etc
Cause now they’re excluded by game or something like that.

But maybe u should look at the other side. On the player’s who want to play a game – have any challenge here, not just run somewhere, get achiv, and quit a game for next 2 weeks. Dont u think, that this group is important too?

What about the fact that you dont need to get a mini-pet, or a title, or any item etc etc. Why do u want evenrything, while ur not playing much? No one is forcing you to get it, and look – thats not kind of items, that allows u to still playing a game. U can easily play a game without these items. I guarantees u, that people will take u to the CoF p1, while u havent got a super title, or mini-pet…

And following your logic – maybe ArenaNet should stop with updating a game, when ur offline or u’ve got a break, cause these all events, achivs, items, titles, pets and stuff will miss u! :O U want everything, but u dont want to play, so…

It’s weird for me.

I bought this game for the simple fact that the whole game is geared toward casual play and no one is excluded from doing anything. Then they add content in fully acknowledging the fact that not everyone will be able to do it. It just doesn’t fit in with the feel of the game it’s been since launch.

I understand challenges are meant to be difficult and the gauntlet is a really good idea. But I just don’t understand why casual players are being punished for playing a game that never excluded them from doing anything, until now. So it doesn’t feel good and leaves a bad taste in their mouth.

On topic though, it’s almost the same thing as Moa racing for the mini. New players wouldn’t have the gold required to try for it. So yeah, not sure how they go about factoring in players that are new, or don’t have much time to play.

This game is free. Normally in an MMO market we would be paying a sub each month, possibly even two or three depending on how many we like to play. GW2 has blown all my other MMO games out of the water, and now my sub money goes on gems. Convert those gems to gold and you can level a character to 80 in an evening.

This is what I did for this content. My boyfriend runs a regen/evade ranger which laughed its way through the gauntlet achievements. Despite having thirteen 80s already I went ahead and levelled an asura ranger and geared her in a night. Just to do this. Now I’m sitting pretty and happy.

There’s no excuse really, is what I’m saying. This game is easy as pie across the board. It doesn’t require hours and hours of playtime, as you can max level and gear up in a couple of hours. If gauntlet achievements are that important to you, it’s easy to make them happen.

Queen’s Gauntlet will return, possibly as part of the activity rotation or even other events. In any case, you’ll be able to complete those achievements at a later date.

You’re right, Dextra. Im casual, and I think ArenaNet should stop making updates for next one month, cause Im going to take a break! I dont want to miss a content, so I understand, that these over milion players will wait, cause everyone should be able to do these events, and all this stuff, right?

Also I’m casual, and i have no time to lvl up to the 80, but i want to run Arah explo. Lvl should scale up to the 80 at 1lvl, so anyway – who need lvling up? Gave 80 for everyone, and make everything easy, cause all people want to play, right? I want a legendary weapon too.

Wooo! I’ve got a better option, lets just dont play Cause for what? We’ve got everything for nothing

</sarcasm>

~~
Btw i still dont understand a main fact, that if some1 dont want to play some stuff in the game, then why they feel like some1 is forcing them to do it? O.o U’ve got so many things to do in this game, and here’s no a “rat race”, what forces u to chase others… O.o Even here’s no one path, that calls u “U need to make this, this, and this” NO! Ur doint what u want to do

U dont like something in the game? Dont do it.
U cant do it? Try, or pass and just dont do it.
Here’s nothing wrong, that some stuff will miss u.

There was some challenges in the game, that gave better or worse rewards, and i missed some of them, and im still playing a game, and do that, what I want. Why u guys want to kill a big boss, while u still have a goal? E.g. max lvl ur, E.g. get exotic items, etc etc – u’ve got goals, and then, when u’ll reach them, then ArenaNet will still updating their game, and gaving u next, and next goals. U understand it? Dont think about a final goal, cause then ur destroying all fun. Focus on closer things. Its like.. Ur making a character and u want to go and kill dragons <.< Thats ur story, man, and your character – make a hero, and dont think, that u can have it all since begining.

IMO ArenaNet care about that, to make GW2 a game, where u havent got a “rat race” And It really worked. But that doesnt mean, that people cant have here a challenges, and stuff…

Please note that it’s very important that the achievements done later should be retroactively assigned to the Gauntlet tab. We don’t want a new tab with new achievements like you did for crab toss and other activities.

If you’re sub-80, just pop some experience boosters and run around with the mob in the Pavilion pits for a few hours. You’ll be amazed how quickly you rise up! Just be careful to equip any loot that’s viable, as your equipment will rapidly become outdated as you fight.

I should be writing.

Do we still get a chance at a mini? I don’t really care about minis but alot of people are mini collectors. I’d feel bad if they cant get it.

Hmmm, since the Gauntlet will become an activity, does that mean The Crown Pavilion will remain accessible when the jubilee ends? If so, will the bottom arena events still be active or are they only annually available? I was certain we’d not be able to enter the The Crown Pavilion when the jubilee ends, so I’m a bit confused and would like some clarity as to what your post entails exactly.

Also, while on the topic of the activity rotation, can we also get Aspect Arena as part of the rotation. I know Southsun Survival will be added, but as we all know Kiel won. And since it was her activity, I think it’ll only be fair that AA also be added alongside SS (Gnashblades activity).
