Entrance tickets. Why?
What is the point of needing a Gauntlet Ticket to participate in the Gauntlet? Why not just let people participate without having one? Seems arbitrary to me. I get it that they are not too hard to come upon, but requiring one seems to create an exclusionary nature to the Queen’s Jubilee. Don’t we want everyone to feel welcome ANet?
Because otherwise you could get a high amount of rewards without having to “work” for it.

The tickets are a throttle to limit the number of people vying for a limited number of gauntlet spots, as well as a gold sink that slightly tempers the effect of rewards you get from winning the gauntlet matches.
It’s harder to justify gambits costing tickets, but on the other hand, gambits are a high-risk, high-reward “hard mode,” so it’s hard to really complain about them either.
Seems arbitrary to me. And the work comes from actually competing in the Gauntlet. The Boss fights aren’t easy. Why not make the entirety of the challenge be in the actual gauntlet? Seems more intelligent to me.
It’s high end content that not everyone will be able to complete. Putting a gate to said content adds to the challenge, where if you can’t complete it before you run out of tickets, you’re out of luck.
As for your arbitrary feeling, do feel same with Disneyland or some other theme park that makes you pay to get in? Or do you feel that allowing everyone in would be more intelligent?
Your comparison between the Queen’s Gauntlet rewards and that of a theme park is a categorical error. I understand that you may not want people to also complete the Gauntlet as you may have, but simply making people have to farm for tickets to get more tries doesn’t seem like an actual challenge. Anyone can farm the tickets, it’s the fights with the bosses that count. No one assumes you are skillful for being able to ride rides at Disney Land. So, all I am saying is to get rid of the arbitrary ticket requirement because it proves nothing. Only the fights prove anything.
You need to be of a certain height to get on some rides. Same as with the Gauntlet. You need to have enough skill to play it properly. Otherwise, like being on a theme park ride with a safety harness that doesn’t fit, you die.
It adds to the challenge, as I’ve said. The gate is there to, in a way, offer incentive to not fail. If you run out of time or die, you need to get a rez or WP and run back. So if you feel that requiring a ticket to get access to elite content is unfair, there’s always the Torch run outside you can do for free.
Yeah, I don’t think you see how going to a theme park and performing skilled content are completely separate endeavors. Until you can resolve this dissonance in your argument, I can’t really continue to entertain it.
No problem. I’m glad you understand the the purpose of tickets for the Queen’s Gauntlet now.
I’m not sure I disagree with the OP….except from the opposite reason. I have no intention of doing the Battle Royal content, yet ALL of my characters has a stack of storage taken up by these tickets and I keep getting more of them as rewards for doing other event content. I can’t sell them to players that would obviously like to use them, so I’m just stuck with them. I don’t want to destroy them on the off chance that they may be sell-able to a merchant after the event is over, but they are just annoying me to no end right now.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
Presumably queues… because they decided to not make it an instance (which I agree is a nice idea for the whole community/spectate aspect of it, however, putting it in same map with a huge zerg not so much).
Gold sink. Apparently, they’re doing everything to ruin us lol.

You make more gold farming tickets than you loose by buying them presumably. So it is not really a valid gold sink, because most people will be farming over buying…

Gauntlet:
Repair bill: 1~3 silver
Waypoint cost: 1 silver
Both of above x the number of time you have to try.
5 tickets: 20 silvers
Now tell me, when you run out of ticket, are you really patient enough or in the mood to spend 1 hour to get 15 Watchwork sockets for 5 ticket knowing that a boss fight with gambits cost ~5 tickets or that you’ll need approximatively 50 just for the last boss of tier3?
We lose tickets quicker than we gain them.

Your point is valid if you isolate the Gauntlet and go for efficiency in terms of time, but it’s a choice that you don’t have to make (although I understand why you would).
My point is, this whole event is extremely lucrative in terms of money, so unless you do nothing but QG you will still make a profit at a significant margin.
What if I actually work during the day and only have time to do the gauntlet after work but not enough time to farm for hours?

Not really. This update is temporary, which means I only have a limited time to vainquish the gauntlet and gain its unique rewards. It’s not a choice I made, well, not entirely, it’s something Arenanet forced on us.
If it was a permanent challenge, I would fell less stressed to complete it as soon as possible. And I have a limited amount of time to play too, like it as been said.

yup could not have said that better myself
at the very least you have repair bills to tend to much less I end up having to waypoint and run back 90% of the time on top of not being able to play as much as I would like I end up having to buy some tickets now…..
Liadri’s fight is challenging yes and could be an interesting fight for a dungeon, but not for a 2 week living story. It’s just too much for the time we have.
The fact that gambits cost tickets is just stupid. Why do i get punished for increasing my difficulty every fight should cost 1 ticket stop forcing me to farm more when i don’t want(or shouldn’t need) to just let me have fun. Stop throwing up road blocks like soulbound tickets(my ranger i have been leveling has 70 tickets…yay), gambits costing extra tickets, terrible waypoint placement, repair costs in a duel, no multiple ways to purchase tickets(even though we have tons of currencies). This is a video game if you want us to keep supporting your game don’t throw stuff in the way of us enjoying it.

Point taken, however., entrance tickets are required for their whole ability to spectate 1v1 fights (in PvE) so while their pricing when bought might be unfair for those with limited time their primary purpose is hardly a gold sink.
While playing the other content and not necessarily farming per say you already net ~50 tickets in reasonably short time with some luck plus the gold from loot and cogs which can be used on tickets.
If this thing was going away after a week I would be more sympathetic, but since it is here for a month dedicating your limited time on some days for getting tickets and on others to doing the gauntlet seems perfectly fine.
Edit: like Dragon bash there is no indication that the Jubilee and by extension the gauntlet would not run for the whole month even after the second update on 20th (if the gauntlet had been introduced in that patch instead of this one it would be a different story).
