As soon as we players read about it, we knew it was a bad idea.

It is ok, if you have a new boss to fight, but if you struggle at one then it sucks big time. You cannot go to an empty dome, because no one is there to ressurect you and the waypoint is far away.

So you go where people are. Take you turn and wait a a few minutes until it is your turn. You die quickly on more challeging enemies and wait again a couple of minutes.

It is not the fights that are frustrating, I like challenging content very much. I liked the T4 candidate trials. I like the Gauntlet.

But the waiting takes all the fun out of it. Exactly as people were telling Anet right away.

Sure testers did not complain, they tried a few bosses and when they could not finish one they just stopped testing out other stuff. But testing out stuff and playing it (for the achievements) is a different thing.

And why is there waiting: so people can watch other fights. Does anyone care? No, because they are busy with their boss. Nobody cares about the other fighting basically. No one cares for this gimmick.

It would work, if it would be like PvP spectating where you can actually see what someone is doing and see their build! That would be fun to see how others are doing it and learning something. But watching through the dome is just stupid, you don’t really see anything of interest.

This is a prime example where the idea of watching other destroys fun. As much as I like hard content, the waiting is killing any fun, exactly like everyone predicted.

Sure, it will no be corrected to be instanced as it should be.

But at least correct the dying so people can actually distribute better across the domes. Let people get ressurected automatically here to make a bit up for this gimmicky design decision. You have automated ressurection in several places (e.g. the dark mini dungeon), so it is in the game and could be used here as well.

you have to wait.. unlucky you. of the 6 arenas, i have yet to see a time where any more than 3 of the areans had a wait time of over 1 person. waiting is nonexistant for me if i choose. 95% of the players are farming the legendaries in the 6 areas rather than doing the gauntlet.

It’s just annoying to have wait 2-3 minutes all the time or run from WP if you choose an empty dome. That’s so frusttrating. If the WP was closer or you would come out revived (like in the dark mini dungeon) people could better distribute across domes.

While I don’t agree with the design, I can see a reason for the wait. Some of the bosses require you to learn their tricks. Wasting tickets on trial and error yourself isn’t a great way to go about it considering how hard the tickets can be to come by. If you watch other players doing the bosses, you can learn from the mistakes or successes.

I don’t know why they don’t res you though. It seems like they want to force you to play at a dome with other people to make it more convenient. So they introduce an inconvenience (dead on defeat, needs to WP to res if you are the only one at that dome) to force you to accept a lesser inconvenience (wait 2-4 minutes each attempt while at least 2 other people go before you in hopes one of them will res you if you die) as the solution.

You don’t speak for the entire player base. And in general you shouldn’t make such sweeping generalizations.

In my experience, in one day of the event, people were getting into spectating. Players were cheering each other on in /s and doing emotes. If someone was having trouble with a boss, the people that were watching what they were doing and how they died would give advice or suggestions. In an overflow, I and a few others spent easily over an hour at a single dome, having a blast. Someone got Liandri and we had a little dance party. Those people added me to their friends lists.

To summarize, its working as intended. And my single experience, invalidates your entire generalization.

In fact, we learned something valuable recently that you should keep in mind…
during the election, the forums heavily favored Evon and the Abaddon Fractal. Yes, there were Kiel supporters also, but the Evon support was overwhelming. There were even threads based on how there would be no way Evon could lose because all of the events and rewards were skewed his way. There were screen shots of forum goers with stacks of Evon buttons that had used boosters. Despite all of that, Evon lost. The lesson there is that not only is the forum community smaller than it thinks it is, but it is also totally out of touch with what the majority of the player base thinks, wants and enjoys.

Just because you don’t like it, it doesn’t mean no one does. Just because forum monsters are mad they cant rush through the gauntlet without interacting with anyone, doesn’t mean a large amount of users aren’t having fun with the spectation and social aspect of it.

My friend, you just summarized the entirety of the forum.

I applaud you.

It could’ve been better done. They can’t please everyone, so here’s the question each player has to answer for himself. Is the spectating worth the walk-time and wait-time caused by the artificial scarcity (having to wait in line for a spot in a fight instead of just creating another instance of it)? For me the answer is no. For you it could be yes, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t have designed it better. Add a spectate mode. Add two diff types of instances, one where you have to wait in line because you want to watch the fights in front of yours, and another where it’s solitary. Give us the option. For me and the OP, I don’t care about other people’s fights. Don’t make me wait in line because other people enjoy it. It’s not a wvw queue. It’s a 1vs1 fight vs a cpu opponent.

Pretty much. Spend more time watching with my guidie, balloons out, and rezing ppl then doing the fights. And watching the mechanics means I ain’t in one of the QQ threads kitten ing and moaning about ticket drop rates or having to spend so much gold buying them. And I’m one of the players that prefers soloing. Can always solo a dungeon if he wants an instanced “challenge”.
Maybe ppl weren’t rezzing him cause they didn’t feel like rezzing someone kittening about the update.

I have to agree with the OP on this one.
Waitting around yes makes us(the ones who think this is a bad idea) sound impatient yes but honestly I am not in line for a rollercoaster ride…

I am playing a video game that can easily have an instanced area instead.
The real frustrating part is that knowning you have learned the mechanic and making a mistake due to lag or misclicking, then getting killed and having to wait again even up to 5 mins at a time.

There are 2 main issues here, one is requiring tickets to even try the bosses.
While the ticket idea is “acceptable” the other issue of waitting around is not…

Also there were several people who refused to rez or just ignored other players when they saw them die, perhaps they dint want to wait in queue. -Adding an auto-rez or the NPCs near the platform res would be a nice addition.
Since Waypointing which costs additional 1s + the time to run back makes this extra frustrating.

Now to end this on a positive note, overall a great event and all the fights were very well done. I have yet to beat Liadri, although I havent missed any living story achieves yet and she doesnt have it in her to stop me, unless ofc i have to fight her while doing the Halloween Jumping puzzle. Devs please do not act upon this last sentence =P

I picked an arena with 1 person there and i’ve been waiting for 15 min , and still waiting.

I’m sick and tired of events where u have to stand around waiting. Cut it out Anet.
