I didn't farm Deadeye
Not sure if troll, serious or laughable.
It could be worse, you could have farmed deadeye for days and not opened the boxes. I’m sitting here with 3000 of them and now get nothing but a huge slap in the face.
It’s funny how they talked about farming the gauntlet and wanting to reward challenging play. I wonder if they’re now going to completely nerf the difficulty to compensate and just hand out the mini.
I was going to dedicate an entire week to farming Deadeye, but instead I decided to go outside and enjoy the weather. I do not believe in opportunity costs and demand to be reimbursed the 5000g I would have made if I had chosen to do it.

……why would you just leave that many of them in your bags?

Please tell me you’re not trying to imply that Deadeye was “challenging play”.
Yeah, sorry, it was just a frustration topic. I missed a big opportunity here and whatever. You can just ignore this topic, I just really wanted to say something. (also I’m not actually expecting anything of this)

Believe me, I feel ya.
My internet was basically unusable for the entire time the Deadeye farm was viable. Yesterday they started to work on it, so I bought a ton of tickets. Today it’s working great, but now the farm is nerfed. Ouch. =D
It happens. Things change in an MMO. Just something you have to get used to.
You’re either kidding yourself or fairly naive if you didn’t see this nerf coming in this patch.
For the first week there weren’t a ton of people doing it. By this past weekend there were multiple deadeye farmers on almost every arena on every server. It was pretty apparent it was going to be nerfed.
NA tPvP – Elementalist – Thief
……why would you just leave that many of them in your bags?
I didn’t have the inventory space to open them, so as I was doing it, I would open some to buy more tickets. I figured they wouldn’t screw with existing boxes, and instead, change what boxes were rewarded. I did expect it to happen a little bit though, since it’s the easiest change, implies it was an exploit and I have the worst luck.
Please tell me you’re not trying to imply that Deadeye was “challenging play”.
I was one of the few doing Deadeye with 3-4 gambits on a warrior. Much more challenging than those guardians and thieves. Besides, it was the dev during the live stream that said it could be farmed and they wanted to reward challenging play.
It’s not like farming deadeye was as easy as zerging, else everyone would have been doing it, when really only a few did. It’s unfortunate that they always go the mindless zerg and pure RNG route.
I guess it’s back to being poor for me.
“I’m here to bearbow and chew bubblegum..and I’m all out of bearbow.”
I barely farmed Deadeye… and was all ready to do so to try and get the rest of the gold needed for my precursor…
But now they nerfed it…
And now i’m stuck trying to find new ways to make gold…
I guess Destroyer Zergs? >_>
Lance Delgado Lvl 20 Thief
I fully expected a nerf but the way they did it they pretty much killed the gauntlet, they could have reduced the rewards instead of removing them… minus doing them once per day that is. I am sitting on a bunch of tickets but I am glad I at least opened all my bags. A reduced reward would have at least helped those people who stockpiled bags salvage their rewards, now they are left with mounds of sprockets.
I can sympathize with the OP.
I too would’ve farmed this for some money (maybe not for a boatload, but definitely for some), but I didn’t really hear about it until late Sunday and simply didn’t have the time to go through with it before the update.
But now it’s just been removed, so I can’t even do that anymore. It’s not that I object to them “nerfing” it, it’s more that I wasn’t given an equal opportunity to prosper from it. I was informed of this farming by someone who directed me to a video and who themselves claimed had made around 100g for farming him for half a day. However, because I did not find out about this sooner, I was not able to capitalize on it like others were. This is not a feature that was publicly advertised, I had to either discover it on my own or keep up with third party sources.
If this was an exploit that was being closed, that would be different, but that’s not the case here.
I don’t mind that others got to partake in the lucrative farming, I just mind that I wasn’t able to simply because I didn’t have the appropriate insider knowledge to act earlier. The removal of this indicates that it’s something that should never have existed in the first place. Yet it did, and others were able to partake in it while I was not.
You can view it kind of like the Karka event back in November. If you logged in that day and didn’t crash during the lag fest, then you got your special event chest with a good chance at a precursor. If you had to work that day, too bad, you get nothing.
I guess it might sound like I’m whining or something, and perhaps I am to an extent. But others were able to gain quick money through non-exploitative means, yet that option gets removed before I can partake in it.
This has happened before though. I never got to take part in Plinx farming because I was spending my time playing the personal story, doing map completion, raising alts, playing WvW, and playing sPvP. If I had just rushed to Orr and farmed things there, I would not have missed out on any content, and would possibly even have more time to go enjoy things due to the efficiency of the farming. I would have been in a position to acquire a prescursor before the prices skyrocketed, and it would have meant much less time grinding for things now. I also missed that deal with the exotic trinkets and the donation boxes for keys simply because it wasn’t obvious unless I took time to read the wiki or randomly experiment on my own. So even though I’m playing the game to do what I find fun and enjoyable, it always means I end up shooting myself in foot in some respect because I gather resources and make money less efficiently and can’t enjoy as many cool looking items or outfit alts as quickly.
Anyways, money will always come and go. I’ll just have to hope I can get a piece of the pie next time.

Is there some sort of reason you didn’t open the boxes? That’s a ton of wasted inventory space, not to mention I don’t see what the incentive in saving them is. Did you think the loot would be better if you incubated them?
its not a permanent event. some people don’t have gold and this is an opportunity to farm and enjoy the event in their on way. i have 2000 unopened box and 2000 tickets Anet didn’t mention about changing it big time. all time spent on the pavilion was unrewarded.

It’s even more wasted space if you open them. 1 stack of boxes turns into around 5 stacks of sprockets and a 1 skin 50% of the time (for me at least). I have very limited free space and on that character, I only had about 10 free slots. I planned on storing the boxes on that character (warrior), which except for the gauntlet, I very rarely play. Since I just started making a guild bank, if the boxes weren’t changed, I would have opened them next week, when it was done and stored all the sprockets until I decided what to do with them. Assuming they’ll never revert this, I’ll probably stash the boxes for a few months, or maybe forever. I still have the event items from haloween for example.
I fully expected them to nerf deadeye. I didn’t think they would go as low as outright destroying it. I assumed they would just change what boxes dropped, just like Subject 7. Generally, developers don’t do what ArenaNet has done here and if the farm was more popular, they would have reverted these boxes just like they did for karma. They probably won’t however, since probably less than 1% of the active population farmed it, so why care.

The Karma change is being temporarily reverted not only because it affects everyone, but because the Karma to Gold conversion rate is low. The rate of gold generation with Duel farming was significantly higher making it a threat to the stability of the economy.
They did over-nerf it, but you should have been smart enough to have opened all of your bags before the latest update. Bags in GW2 roll their loot when they are opened, so any change is always retroactive.

AHAHAHAHA, KITTEN! It was OBVIOUS from the begining that arena WILL nerf deadeye and probably content of the boxes as well.
so i guess, there is no point in doing this at all because of no rewards, and it’s better to wait for a next event then wasting time on this, right?
and well, i really hope this game will be more friendly to people who don’t dedicate their time to gold farming.

But don’t you think those that put in the time to earn better rewards deserve those better rewards?
yes, but economy should not impact the game a lot
and gold should be capped instead of being hard to obtain by simply playing.
especially, when some people get their gold by exploiting – and keep it, inflating the broken economy further.

But I was about to. It took me a while to make my way through the gauntlet up to him, and even beat Subject 7 last night. I was looking forward to making some money as I saw this to be my one shot at making “real money”. Everything else I tried wound up in miserable failure or only panned out just a bit of money. Flipping, world bosses, you name it.
I was about to farm this guy for 5 hours, which would net about 100g on average.
Please just send me 100g, Anet, I didn’t get my piece of this pie.

dude, I know a guy that made 8000 gold on patch day because he was throwing minis in the mystic forge, which he was buying at 1g a piece, so 4g for all 4 them selling them at 75g a piece…he was doing it all day till the prices stabilized

It’s probably a (very valid) critique that Anet keeps adding stuff that has easy exploits (use a regen food during Belcher’s, keep killing Deadeye for easy gold, etc) only to remove them a day or two or 10 later.
The upshot is: any – ANY AND ALL – LS stuff should be done on day 1, maybe 2 if you feel lucky. Scour forums and map chat to find the easy exploits, go do it and then /point and lol at anyone who went and tried it after ANet tightened the screws and now actually has to work for it.
Really, ANet, if you can’t find and fix the exploits beforehand (and I’ll grant you that that’s not easy, though if you run this stuff on an PTS you’d probably catch most of them) then leave them in and fix it the next time you add LS.

Yep. This has been brought up time and again.
“Exploit early, exploit often” is usually the theme.

Yes, and those people were banned or had thier gold revoked within hours…
In regards to this thread, I always opened roughly every 100 bags and it’s pretty obvious to have done so after the subject 7 hotfix.
