I dislike the new staff
Agreed. The staff skins in this game are one of the worst designed collections of skins. It’s either go for Bifrost (assuming you’re into rainbows) or choose from a million different boring designs.

how about a mace that isn’t a tiny square
modnir’s staff is good though
i love my bifrost!!!! and i would never change it!!!!! best skin ever
I’m amazed I’m still using Gnarled Walking Staff after all this time.
What boggles my mind is that cool staff designs aren’t hard to imagine.
1. Get hyped about new weapon skins.
2. Look at visuals of new hammers, swords, greatswords.
3. Check the new daggers.
4. Cry.
Seriously, why some of the new weapons look even more flashy than legendaries while the rest look like another blue/green thrash loot? I was hoping for some unqiue design/visuals yet we recieved something what looks almost exactly like the weapons we already have.
(edited by Venirto.4208)
If you’re not playing the game as a human female warrior, guardian, or mesmer, you’re wrong.
How about a freaking pistol? We got even less this time around, the sovereign pistol is freaking ugly and that’s all we got for pistols.
[Previews link for GS new skin,] “oy cool wonder what the staff looks like”
[opens TP, finds staff, walks to corner to cry some.]
Anet really hates staff’s, we never get any good skins, in comparison to other weapons

THIS. So true.
Would it be too much to have a Cobalt GS skin for daggers, staff’s and the rest? The staff looks like a deformed lollipop and the dagger seems like nothing more than a reused design (and not the greatest one either). Looks like Anet really wants to prove they can do crappy designs as well as awesome ones. Too bad certain weapons only get the crappy ones.

Staff’s have gotten disgraceful treatment so far in this game. They are plain looking, uninspired and typically given a fraction of the animation and special effects of blades.
A Staff is a 2 handed weapon, like a greatsword, they should be similarly impressive and ornate.
The best looking staff was the Dragon’s Jade one IMO.
Every update/patch where they add new skins the greatsword enthusiasts always ’gasms with excitement.
The staff enthusiasts are always left to go back to crafting Bifrost….
Had the same staff skin since October (Scythe) the only other staff I could think of going for is The Crossing. 2 good stakitten in the one month and that’s it. Kinda disappointed, let’s get some interesting sticks, not just… Normal sticks.
Engineers got a bug spray gun and a metal detector for rifles, an awful sovereign pistol, no unique pistol from champ bags and a meh shield.
Honestly all of the sovereign weapons are ugly. They’re big, bulky, the textures are stretched and low res and design wise none of them really make sense (although that’s my opinion)
Anet loves spoiling warriors and guardians. Part of their GS obsession.

I agree. Just look at the Pearl weapons. The greatsword is large and detailed and beautiful and the staff is…depressing. The Seraph set is the same way. Here’s my list of good staves:
Zenith
Mystic/Inquest
Gnarled Walking Stick
Fractal
Super
Dragon’s Jade
Bifrost
What do these seven have in common? They all have large headpieces and/or glowing effects. If you look at the GW1 staves, they have much larger headpieces and more magical effects than our current choices. And they all look great, even the basic skins! This thing is better than half of the staves in GW2.
And what about all of the awesome earth staff skins ? Who can forget the Dolyak Prod Staff ? What happened to the love, ANet?
They seem to have really good designers and some really bad ones or perhaps sometimes they are just getting lazy. This was an issue in WoW with gear creation. There was really good gear and really useless gear in terms of the stats things had.
Almost every game I have played with the exception of WoW which had awesome caster weapons, the weapons usually are bland boring and nothing to be excited about. : /
Actually I think the Sovereign staff is my favorite staff skin yet, BECAUSE it’s simple, sleek, and elegant. I don’t want fricken lolipop-style, giant overdesigned staff heads and messy, crooked hafts. Give me symmetry and style.
Dear Anet, please stop hating on elemetalists. We deserve some new weapon (daggers, scepters, staves) that don’t look aweful. Look at cobalt. Please please please make a dagger version of it. It’s so cool. This is just like with Vision of the mists, where daggers got no love, even though it would have been so easy.
Please. Give us new daggers with particle effects like cobalt. I love that weapon, and want a dagger version for my ele.
5 Ele meta let’s go
The best looking staff was the Dragon’s Jade one IMO.
I think so too and thats what i’m using.
I agree. Pretty much every new weapon skin appearance is marked by me looking at the skins and thinking “Oh. May as well not fuss about that then.”
It’s such a shame because GW1 had some gorgeous staves. Are they really that averse to echoing those looks?
I know this is how the staff selection looked after a few more years than we’ve had GW2, but even so, this is a huge selection of pretty and interesting staves, and I just..I don’t get that from a lot of their GW2 counterparts. I often prefer the basic skins to the exotic ones, and that’s a real shame.
And yeah, daggers could use some love too. I want a dagger that looks sharp, not just like a wedge of stone/metal.
Super Staff from Super Adventure Box is an awesome staff. As punishment, ArenaNet removed it from the game

Well, I was referring more to the Sovereign skin.
That Komalie dagger does look nice (I’ll own up – I hadn’t seen that one yet) but I still don’t think it makes the Cinquedea any prettier. And those wedge-daggers seem to have been far more common in added skins than daggers which actually look what they are.
And the Monsoon staff is pretty underwhelming from the preview, especially by comparison to the other new skins.
Monsoon is actually one of the few staff skins I like, it’s a more detailed version of the old water staves from prophecies. I’ll agree that most staff skins are annoying with clipping, scaling, positioning, or are just boring. Other weapons suffer too, and armor…
who actually wants that? Do we really want to be playing those same game mechanics for
another 5 or 10 years? -Mike O’Brien
And what are you complaining about?
I’m an Engineer. I can only use 3 type of weapons. Shield, Rifle, Pistol. They look bad from Sovereign.
Havent seen a new shield from Champ drops. There is NO new pistol from champ drops either (lol, this is going well…) and the 2 rifles are as followed. 1) Its basicly my Flamethrower, I ALREADY HAVE THIS SKIN AS A FLAMETHROWER. 2) looks cool, but no doubt it fires bullets despite it obviously being a laser rifle of sorts. That annoys me to no end.
You got lucky if you’re a Warrior or a Guardian. Loads of awesome skins for those 2 professions. Fantastic looking Greatswords, with great effects. Cool looking Swords (Rapier/Felblade) with cool effects, fantastic Hammer skins with cool particle effects.
Its getting kinda annoying at this stage. Its always the same weapons/professions that get cool new skins, and the same professions that dont get kitten (Engineer)
I think that staves just need some effects around the head:

Agree, but I don’t think rapier is avalible. Aether skins have different sword than rapier, that’s why all those rumors about new kind of weapons
edit. I was wrong, I admitt. Didn’t saw all new boss drop weapons. Mea culpa

Rapier is definitely available.
The reason why I have so much more gold than my friends is because I play Elementalist.
Every patch my friends spend their gold on new skins, the last time I had to spent gold was actually never.
I dont like Bifrost, so I went with the Walking Stick til SAB, since then I have Super Skin.
I actually loved every single ebonhawk weapon. you can get them for cogs and gold from the pavillion or just for 9.8k karma in ebonhawk (if they didn’t shut it down, I really hope not).
these skins all look a bit different, generally hawk-themed (wings etc) but are not too flashy.
but if you want big and flaming and smoking weapons with floating butterflies eating ponys while being shot at by aetherblade airships, you’ll probably find them lame of course ^^
agreed to me costemtic wise gw2 has nothing on gw1 armor skins and weapon skins…. everything was so well designed armors class specific wich made sure there were alot of choices and alot of diversity… weapons looked so nice…. i love gw2 but cosmetic wise its not that great character creation is also horrible to many clones to little options…. in armor weapons and character
Actually, stakitten are really bad designed. (Most of then). GS, and hammers, and bows, all have some cool skins. (Damm, the glyph GS is really cool, and its a blue lv 25 >_> ).
But I don’t blame at all. How exactly a staff can be “Cool” ? I mean, the achievments staff is nice, but what need to a staff be reallly cool ?
I’m waiting at least some effects on skill on next ones, but don’t know about appearance.
I’d like a staff that is a simple pillar of ivory (as in, just a cylinder with no ornate features). I’d like that same staff to have insanely cool particle effects when used.
If I’m channeling a skill, I fully expect there to be an immense vortex of magic being drawn into the staff.
Monsoon is actually one of the few staff skins I like, it’s a more detailed version of the old water staves from prophecies. I’ll agree that most staff skins are annoying with clipping, scaling, positioning, or are just boring. Other weapons suffer too, and armor…
At least I’m not the only one! I like Monsoon as well, it’s a nice water themed staff without being over the top. Granted it is a bit lazy, in that it’s a staff version of the scepter Tsunami, but most of the champion weapons in this patch are reskins anyway.
Though I agree with most people that staff skins tend to be pretty weak overall. I like more toned down, elegant skins, and don’t care for heavy particle effects, but the Sovereign Staff just looks ugly to me – as do most of the Living Story staff skins.
I’d like a dark metal staff with a lava chain around the shaft and a big spike for a head. Also a small burning effect on the whole shaft. Oh, also lava dripping from the head.
I guess that they’re going to make a greatsword with those looks just to troll me :P

Every new GS has been ugly as an ugly stick
Im still stuck on mystic claymore, until I finish my legendary, which is just the precursor part
Hammers used to be pretty underwhelming too. The community talked about it months ago, a dev replied, and nowadays hammers look to have more impact and heavy-ness than they did before.
Staves, unfortunately, are still underwhelming. Have you people seen some of the new “magical” trident skins? Why oh why aren’t they available for staves too? :P
I think staves should be bigger and with more attention to detail. I’m not saying they should all be flashy with particles effects – there’s certainly a crowd who likes them with some elegance, but at their current size, they’re way too tiny to be appreciated, and their effects and details are generally underwhelming and way too shy.
OT, who designed that gawd horrid 2 bladed sword (Twin Talons). That’s got to be some designer letting his 5th grakitten ut some content in the game….
(I don’t normally criticize ANet’s content but that thing is just FUBAR from all angles).
(Kitten on gr-ad-er? Really?)
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
I vote for more staff love!
The Knights Temple [TKT] — Aurora Glade
I love how many weapons we have in this game, and some of them are truly awesome. But yes, many others are just blah or plain disgusting.
Since GW1 have a good weapons stock, ANet could just add them to GW2, affectively doubling the GW2 weapon stock by adding some already-designed weapons.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I’ve yet to see a single pistol (sovereign “pistol” aside), so don’t you complain about getting too few skins.
Haven’t seen this new staff yet (I did look at the Sovereign one and it was very unimpressive, but then none of the Sovereign weapons really appealed to me other than maybe the sword), but if its like most staves I can already guess what the main problem with it is.
They ignored the shaft of the staff pretty much completely and put any and all detail into the head only. This is, IMO, the #1 thing that makes stakitten (as well as hammers, maces, and scepters) less interesting to look at compared to greatswords which get lauded constantly as great skins.
Greatswords have a whole huge sword blade to work with. That allows for a lot of detail, variety, and intricacy. Stakitten could have just as much if they’d utilize the whole weapon, but they seem intent on ignoring the shaft and end up trying to put all of the detail work into the staff head. Even with a massive staff head (which very few staves have, most have relatively small heads as well) it doesn’t even kind of compare to a huge greatsword blade , and in most cases the comparison (huge blade vs small staff head) just leaves the staff very lacking comparatively.
That’s why The Crossing and the Jade Dragon Staff get a lot of love, IMO. Unlike typical stakitten , those two actually put details on the shaft as well as the head (the Dragon one especially).
Bifrost is epic, but it doesnt go with necro. had to buy scythe staff skin to be happy. now im anoyed by necromancer staff cast effect that makes me have some kind of scythe with an extra scythe effect attached to it :s
I’m simply explaining why I’m right.
You want cool-looking staves?
Deathwish, Final Rest, Scythe Skin, Pact Quarterstaff… to name a few.
Kildemort (W) / Killer Claws (G)
Deadly God (En) – Fort Aspenwood

That is why I chose Pact Quartestaff from Story arc and will change it to Deathwish eventually.

The new monsoon staff? Absolutely 100% the most lazy designed staff in this game and it’s from the new champion loot and it’s awful! It’s so tiny, so un-detailed and it doesn’t even have a spell effect.!
And the soverign staff skin? SAME THING. It’s so tiny and just lazy.
While greatswords and hammers still get the most attention.
Anet if you are going to be this lazy with staves don’t bother putting more designs of them in the game.
Yay subjective rants! The staff skin is one of the only skins in the entire collection I actually like. I like it because it’s not absurdly grand and covered in effects. It’s one of the few staves that’s actually subdued and elegant.
