Is there a reason that this normal yellow item costs 200 sprockets AND 10, that’s TEN, gold? Why are these items this cost when you can get the same items for free with karma? Is there a reason that they’re this high that I’m not seeing?

Except that it’s not. As was mentioned in the OP, these are not new skins and have been readily available for a small amount of Karma. Nobody in their right minds that is aware of this would ever pay 10g to buy these skins. The only way it could be a gold sink is if people are buying them because they didn’t know they can get them for just a bit of Karma which is far more available to players in the first place.

Yeah, when I saw this i thought it was pretty kittened up. I make sure I let everyone in the zone know, from time to time

Give me game. Not grind, not gating, not RNG, not +stat junk, not checklists.

Anet just released a bunch of gold into the economy with the achievement point system, they have to try to take gold out somehow.

I’m as baffled as you are. I really see no purpose to the prices being so ridiculous. Heck, I see no purpose to having the racial weapons available at all from these vendors at all when they’re readily available from the racial cities (and do we really need LESS reasons to go to racial cities?), but if they are going to be there then why have them priced so insanely?

Maybe they know the price is ridiculous and no one will buy them and they just want to pad the reward list. Or maybe they’re hoping to catch people who don’t know about the racial weapons (or are under the mistaken impression that you can only buy racial weapons from your own race) and gyp them out of massive amounts of gold. Though that would be in rather poor taste.

WOW, I am glad I came across this thread. I had no idea they were available for karma and would have ended up wasting a LOT of gold on them. This really demands some explanation.

I think it’s pretty simple, really. Some people have more gold than Karma and if they would rather waste hard earned gold on this stuff then so be it. The rewards make sense. These are representatives of those cities / cultures and as such sell weapons that reflect that.

The cost of not only sprockets, but also gold really does make buying these useless, though but it’s really just another alternative way of buying things.

Kind of off topic, but shouldn’t Cultural Weapons and Armor be exotic? At least T3?

^ this person right here is exactly why it’s a gold sink.

It’s for people who may not know it’s already in the game (trickery) or may not have the karma to purchase it.

Nope, they’re rares.

So did you read any part of my post except for the last part where I asked why they’re rares instead of exotics?

I did but I wasnt responding to that, because theres nothing to respond to there. And from how you worded that I misunderstood. I thought you were asking if they were exotic if they were bought from the cities, and then I was saying no they’re just rares and not exotic.

Apologies then. Yeah no there was just my general thinking behind why they put these items for sale from these merchants. I’d hope to think they aren’t trying to prey on unsuspecting or ignorant players who don’t know these already exist for karma.

The last part was just a little off-topic aside sort of wondering why they’re rares instead of exotics. Especially T3. 64k Karma / 120g and they give us rares.
