This is the reason why I find living story quite boring, because its like watching other people play a game.
Remember in Starcraft when you first started a mission and you got the cutscene? Imaging the game like that, except through the entire mission you see the heroes of these scenes get all the credit and you are rewarded with Instant Gratification.
Instant Gratification
This is what I like to call, doing little to nothing and getting rewarded for it, as soon as you logged into the living story, you are instantly rewarded and praised via mail saying to show up to a place, when you get to a place you go into an instance and said cut-scene plays.
When you play through the stages, you barely have to do anything! You are less involved then the NPCs standing there guarding the arena. When you first arrive you see Lowdog and Queen Gina and whatsherfaceIdidn’tevencaretoremember.
You barely have little time to know whats going on, and you seem excited. Hey! Maybe I will actually be able to fight the—- Lowdog: I will fight it for you Milady! Hey what abou—… Yes! Very well… watches the scene for awile Stuff happens!
Eventually you.. follow NPCs around and watch all the fun happen while you have little to no involvement. and get REWARDED! YAY INSTANT GRATIFICATION!
Living Story is honestly one of the most boring things I’ve ever done, the event itself is quite boring as well. All you do is go farm a bunch of champions over and over, the same way, over and over… and Lo behold, more instant gratification!
If you are a Melee Class, don’t bother showing up at the event, mobs kill you instantly unless your standing back in ranged and zerging to death.
Honestly, with the little involvement I even had, I don’t even care about Queen Jina or Lowdog, or whatshisface or whatswhosface.
When I play a game, it should be about me and my friends. Lowdog and Gina are nice, but I really don’t care about them or their life, my player has his own life to worry about.
You are not a hero, your a babysitter
In the living story, time and time again all it proves is that Tyrians are incapable of logical thought, why is the Order of Whispers in Lion’s Arch not taking care of the problems they have been having lately, don’t they actually live there? Didn’t we just do an entire storyline to make a pact to get them involved to take care of the problems in Tyria… what ever happend to all that? Why is this even happening?
