bazaar of 4 winds wasnt a festival, its a part of living story
dragonbash was for july 4th
queens jubilee will be for gw2’s anniversary – they arent just doing these for the hell of it, theres a reason behind them

All three of what you listed are part of living story, not just the bazaar… and yes, a bazaar is a festival. All we’ve done in this chapter, excluding the trials, are festival activities. There was little to no story content at all.

The bazaar is not a festival. It’s a introduction to the merchants the sky pirate plunder.

You have to accept the fact that mini games are just part of GW2.

Once again, festival or not, doesn’t matter. And yes, mini games are a part of GW2, but they are not, and never were meant to be the core of GW2, yet for the last 2 chapters, that’s all we’ve been doing. My fault is not that the mini games exist, but that they are the driving factor of Living Story, when it should be the plot.

You can choose to do them or not. The story does not revolve around the mini games.

So I’m not alone?

What’s wrong with writers?

Can’t you kill the Queen (I know you can’t because you’ll have to write new personal story, but someone can attack her, can’t he?)? Can’t the centaurs invade the Divinity’s Reach? Are the Zephyrites can’t hiding the Glint’s dragon? Are the dragons are too weak to destroy or attack Rata Sum, Divinity’s Reach, The Grove, The Black Citadel or Lion’s Arch?
Again, we get festival, where everyone is happy and don’t care about the dragons behind.

Is everything have to be fluffy?

At the rate Anet’s going and with Halloween just around the corner, I’m guessing we aren’t going to find out:
1)who the personal nemesis is
2)why the personal nemesis set up the molten alliance
3)who Scarlet and Mr. E are and what the deal is with the aetherblades
4)what Kasmeer and Marjory have to do with all of this
until sometime next year…..

Knowing Anet, they might just completely forget about them.
Just like how they forgot about the “mysterious stranger” in Zinn’s Task and the “he” in Hearts of the North back in gw1. Not to mention whatever happened to Evennia………

Honestly I agree, this is ridiculous. Hopefully this will spark another conflict in the story because yeah, there’s like no conflict anymore. Yeah there are little skirmishes here and there with sky pirates but… thats it really. Sure we don’t have to do the content we don’t like but then what does that mean then? The people who don’t like the living story get left behind. It’s either hop on or enjoy a world that will never change because we’re working on other content.
Being around the anniversary though you have to admit it’s not just random, it’s a celebration of the game’s origins itself which is fine, everyone does that. On the other hand they really should take an opportunity to make this segment of the living story link or transition into a larger conflict. I mean really, when it comes to Queen Jenna there’s always someone trying to kill her or end her regime lol But it’s too much, celebrations should be short and the real engaging content needs to last.

Initially I wasn’t thrilled about the idea of another festival, but our team took that as a challenge to implement a festival that plays much differently than the others. I think we accomplished that.

It’s encouraging to see ArenaNet staff having … second thoughts? I don’t mind a birthday celebration, if that is what QJ indeed is, but I’d really, really like to get stuck into some meaty permanent content soon. Some new explorable zones, new faces, bigger dragons…pleeeeease.

At the rate Anet’s going and with Halloween just around the corner, I’m guessing we aren’t going to find out:

I don’t mind the occassional festival here and there, but I was under the impression that the game would be a tad darker in tone. The campaign against Zhaitan’s forces – especially in Orr – is the sort of thing I’d like to see elsewhere.

More permanent content would be brilliant, too. Southsun is a start, but we need more!

I have to admit that this 4 week theme + 2nd timed release 2 weeks in living story path is starting to get a bit overwhelming. I barely have enough time to get my dailies done and make sure the monthly is done, as well as do everything required for the metas that pop up every 2 weeks, and I’m unemployed.

I have a bad feeling I’m just going to have to stop playing altogether when/if I pick up work again. I think the frustration of ‘missing’ things at that point will drive me to not want to do anything, which is super sad.

A bazaar is a market.

If we’re talking about the Middle East, then yes, a bazaar is a market. But in other cultures -specifically american, and I believe, European cultures- it is a temporary market, a festive market, and generally comes but once or twice a year.

That’s odd. I’ve always understood bazaars, eastern or western, to be markets, not festivals. Either way, there was no “festival” in the Labryinthine map. We went there to establish trade between the new map and Lion’s Arch. There is an election between Ellen Kiel and Evon Gnashblade. Each candidate is hosting their own mini-game for publicity. Again, this was not a festival, as we are not celebrating anything. It’s an election.

Even with the slow start and some weak characterization for the refugees I feel like the Frost and Flame arc did a lot better at grabbing and holding my attention over time. It built to an actual climax and it got there through tangible escalation. Its not that we now have festivals and mini-games in every direction, its that the ‘living story’ has devolved into ‘short attention-span theater’.

With four team presenting in rotation I question whether its even POSSIBLE to release something substantial… since every team gets interrupted 3 times over before they can raise the curtain on their next act.

I only have a couple of part time jobs, so I do have a lot of time to play this game. (Currently seeking full time employment). Now, with that out of the way, I want to say this: I love the living story!!! I don’t mind having more than one celebration in a row. It doesn’t feel redundant or boring. This game feels alive.

Animal Crossing was a single player game with built in celebrations on American holidays (with a few other cultural celebrations thrown in). So July 4th the population in the game would comment about fireworks later in the evening, and then later that night after 8pm you could watch fireworks go off in the game. They did the same for Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter (there were a few others thrown in there too). However, since these celebrations only lasted for 1 day, I often found myself fast forwarding the time to those dates because the monotony of the other non-holiday days would get overwhelming. Too much of the same ol’ same ol’ gets boring quickly.

With these events constantly evolving, growing and changing, the game is always different. I’m always second guessing myself. “Was that tent here the last time I came to Divinity’s Reach?” “When did it get here?” I’m always checking out old places to see how they’ve changed and running to new places to see if anything new might have popped up there too. Each festival has always been themed and has had different atmospheres about them, so they’ve never felt “the same”. Each one has been pretty unique.

With that said, I can’t wait to see what Queen Jennah has planned for us!

I enjoy these small festivals now & then. If I’m honest I tend to only do them for achievement points / some cool item skins. They are definitely something that should continue to thrive.
Though I do agree that as soon as one ends another seems to begin and as all the content is temporary there seems to be an almost grind-like scenario for each new festival. In my opinion these ‘festivals’ should be every 3rd month (4 a year). One for Wintersday/New Year & Halloween are a given. Perhaps mini ones for events such as Chinese New Year (as it was always very popular in GW1). I think more than 4/5 a year is just excessive.

He’s right, there is plenty to do outside of the world. But with the LS running constantly, it keeps many players from doing dungeons, orr, etc.

Plus if you have mapped 100 percent, beaten story and done most of the world events, what is there to do besides dungeons, WvW/PvP?

If your answer is “Craft a Legendary”, no thanks, not everyone finds that fun. I find it to be a massive gold sink and a large consumption of time.

I love WvW so that’s where I go, but I would like to enjoy the Live Story too.

The game world is huge. If a living story is going on in one area. That doesn’t mean other areas shouldn’t have smaller events. A truly dynamic world has many things happening at the same time.

Anet just needs to work on a more wide verity of achievements that focus less on grinding. If they are going to introduce new content every two weeks.

I am one of the people that, while I do enjoy the mini-events I really do hope we will be seeing the personal story continue. It’s now been almost a year since I finished my personal story and apart from Jormag and the Destroyer, I have not seen much of a sign that there are other dragons on the verge of attacking. I would love to have new zones to explore, more personal story missions, more dungeons, different themes in environment etc. I am not as much a lore guy as some diehard fans out there but I do enjoy worlds with lots of secrets, history etc.

I hope that this current chain of events will finally lead to a charge towards another elder dragon perhaps, or a new threat as a whole. The scale of the stories we’ve been getting over the past months have all seemed to be quite small. Sure they are connected, but I already forgot half of the story because it seems to go one way and then another way again. If we can have another story on the scale of the main personal story which includes new places to visit or rigorous changes to existing zones then I’m all for that.

They are making us do more then mini games! They made us the janitors of Tyria while depthless NPCs take all the glory for our work. Dont you like to collect crystals, clean up holograms, destroy magical doors, find lost kites, or destroy random portals anymore? If you dont like cleaning up Tyria, your more then welcome to help track random and useless energy readings around LA and its surroundings with random detectors that magically serve the exact purpose we need it to!

Summary: Anet, this story is boring, the things you make us do are boring, everything is very predictable, you dont give us any substantial lore in game to make us care and at this point we are min/maxing to get our achievement points.

Mini games are not the problem! Blame achievements that require players to grind mini games they don’t like.

Mini game achievements should be relatively quick and easy to earn. I the mini game is good many players will still play it after earning all the achievements.

Now you should noticed. What drive player in to these….
- Mini game
- Run to things and press F
- RNG
- Festivals

Because of….

- Its really fun OR just AP?
- players really like its OR want a reward?
- Players love living stories OR they dont have anything left to do?
- They are willing to do all of these OR force in to it?
More importantly…..
- 2 weeks event ll keep players stick to GW2 OR make ppl give up GW2?

Worst part is ‘too much mini game grind!!’
- x,xxx points in SS Survival. too much to be fun.
- Too much Crystal bearer we have to killed in Aspect arena ruined the gameplay.

Even me who work at Laptop all the time have plenty of time to play but still think this is too much. Not to mention some other.

its a matter of time players going to reach ‘kitten its all’ state and wont do any event or AP anymore.

I have no problem with the frequency of new content, I’m merely irritated with its quality. we need more mature content whit blood and killinings this is joke whit the festivals they are epicly ANOYING!!!!

“We need more mature content with blood and death. These festivals are a joke and are very annoying” {asking for more mature content when you can’t even type a simple sentence is not a good idea}

Festivals are fine; GW1 had a long history of events: Halloween, Wintersday, Canthan New Year, Dragon Festival, Sweet Treats Weekend (easter), even events like Talk like a Pirate Day, they added something fun to do. They implemented a rotation system for weekend events that added bonuses as well e.g. Lucky Weekend gave triple lockpick drops or reputation weekends where you gained double the normal reputation points.

At the moment we are in the real first year of the game, and I’m sure they want to get as many of the primary festivals sorted as possible, then once done they will only need to implement smaller changes each year to make the new festivals different from the last. It’s about laying the framework for seasonal or recurring events so give em a break, you don’t HAVE to participate. I can see why they would want to get these all out of the way so they can focus on more story driven content.

I have been outspoken about how the lore in guild wars 2 is shallow and meaningless compared to guild wars 1, mainly because I have always been quite enraptured by the depth and scope of story they gave us, it is a tremendous disappointment that we have no expansion on existing lore, no answers to questions promised us, and a personal story that alienates the player from the game, BUT they are improving.

*Currently we are focusing alot on the sub-groups in the game first the molten alliance, which talks about the alliance between the dredge and flame legion and I expect will lead towards Primordus content.

  • We have been introduced to the alliance between the Aetherblades and Inquest which could lead anywhere as they have information relating to all the Elder Dragons, most noted at Crucible of Eternity.

*We currently have an unknown collusion going on in Brisban Wildlands between multiple groups including The Inquest, The Nightmare Court and bandit forces. With references lately about the new Jungle Elder Dragon, we may find what force is behind the creation of the Nightmare Court, we know from gw1 that the centaurs themselves knew about a dragon in the maguuma, as well as the existence of rotscale, so there is more to be expanded here.

*We have only had a brief bit of information about the Lagos, Krait and Quaggan incursion into Tyria from the deep seas. The Lagos speak of troubles and darkness from the depths, that is why they are in Tyria to train for its eventuality. This could lead us to the Ocean dwelling Elder Dragon.

  • The Zephyr Sanctum and its revelations about Glint and the Crystal desert could lead us to exploration there. We have a big door in Ebonhawke that leads to the Crystal Desert. This opens up content towards Elona, the Mordent Crescent, Palawa Joko, and of course Kralkatorrik.
  • The only content we currently haven’t really gotten is with relation to the Kodan, Norn and Jormag. I expect to see a Living story release soon in relation to it.

*FInally we need some living story/continuation of Orr. The fall of Zhaitan opens up alot of content on Orr and in Arah alone. We especially need a follow on from the conversation in the Cathedral of Silence with one of the Reapers of Grenth. WHY are the gods silent.

That is alot of content, lore, designs, concepts to create, so festivals and minor living story content is a welcome addition, just enjoy it.

i would love to see more serious story-telling

He’s right, there is plenty to do outside of the world. But with the LS running constantly, it keeps many players from doing dungeons, orr, etc.

Plus if you have mapped 100 percent, beaten story and done most of the world events, what is there to do besides dungeons, WvW/PvP?

If your answer is “Craft a Legendary”, no thanks, not everyone finds that fun. I find it to be a massive gold sink and a large consumption of time.

I love WvW so that’s where I go, but I would like to enjoy the Live Story too.

hmmm….
as I ended 100% map, get many things etc. etc….
I continue to slaghter of the Risen

If you guys have ever watched anime they usually have filler shows where they diverge from the main plot. This to me feels like that! It’s just filler until the main content is ready (with bits of story line that’ll eventually make sense).

A filler episode or two is fine. A whole filler SEASON… not so much…

Have You seen Bleach?
yeah wasted time

and nice quotation from something that I don’t remember what was that:
“we have 5 minutes to save the world!”
5 episodes later:
“how many time we have got?”
“there are only 2 minutes left – we have to hurry”
one episod was something like 30 minutes long….
sure

“-Shield is meant to be broken!”
“-and on this occasion I keep mine plate armors”

Hopefully this Queen’s Jubilee thing is not as bad as this politics release.. because this one is really boring. The only reason I still play this game is based on what you guys release and I understand that there isnt always violence going on in Tyria every two weeks, but it couldn’t hurt to have a little more…

Enter the Crown Pavilion – Begins August 6
Test yourself in an entirely new mini-zone featuring mighty representations of humanity’s enemies. By representing various cities of Tyria, you can be named champion of a nation and gain access to unique reward vendors.

This is a VERY long term content. Each player can now represent their race in the Crown Pavilion. It will most likely have a rankings system.

Giving us content doesnt mean that if the content is bad they get a free pass…

If you went to a restaurant that offered you a free appetizer with purchase and that appetizer turned out to be… say just a plate of mud… would you still be happy? They didnt have to offer you the free appetizer, but you picked this restaurant because of the deal.

Same thing here. Anet told us they wanted to do something different and give us release cycles of free content. They didnt have to do this, but they did it to make their game different and unique so that you would buy it. They dont just get to release terrible content and expect the player base to be happy because ‘atleast we got something’.

*Disclaimer: Im not saying all the content has been poor and there has been plenty of content I enjoy, but Im not a fan of just giving them a free pass just because.

I agree with people that the fluffy content, minigames, lame theme drops need to stop. As one poster put it, give us more blood and death..more fear, destruction. Reason to do things besides achievements.

I thought it was funny that in another thread I listed all of the mini games that have been added, either perma or temp, since the game launched and tried comparing that to actual legit content. Someone replied to my post saying the mini games I listed arent minigames and that I was a fool for thinking so.

So tell me, are these minigames:
Belchers Bluff
Moa Racing
Keg Brawl
Aspect Arena
Survival arena
Crab toss
the haloween mini game

I think there are a few more, but I think these qualify as mini games.

Now compare this list to Zones, content, and REAL story that has been added since… southsun is abandoned. Living story is completed in a few days of their installments, and it is all achievements.

We need a new zone that has tons of content, tons of renown hearts, lore, dynamic events, new mobs, a city..thats what we want.

Karma is as abundant as air, and as useless as the Kardashians.

Oh kitten . No, the dragons didn’t go on holiday. No, the personal story didn’t get forgotten. You just don’t see the bigger picture….

“Bobby Stein: From January to April, the focus was on Braham and Rox and their fight against a new Molten Alliance. Then we jumped into Moto’s Super Adventure Box. After that, we followed Ellen Kiel to Southsun Cove, Lion’s Arch, and Zephyr Sanctum. We’ve fought Aetherblades. But how does this all tie together? Does it have anything to do with the core story of the dragon threat?

Players will soon understand where these characters are headed, and how these seemingly disjointed events fit together and tie into the larger narrative."

Actually you know, I think there are a couple of decent threads on here that link things together and fill in some of the blanks for people that might be missing things.

While I admit that some of the story bits are a little disjointed if you aren’t really paying attention, they have said they are working on that. Even in the interview I quoted above, its stated that they are working on some way to more easily track/experience the story bits so that players don’t feel so lost.

There is more than just mini games being given to us, we just aren’t seeing it because we’ve no grasp of the bigger picture.

For all of the flaws flame and frost had in its implementation, that kind of story is much more what I would like out of these living story updates. It’s an interesting new development of two previously known hostile factions, and it was a new threat to tyria that made me want to log in and defend the kingdom. As was said above festivals are great, but they work best when the are the minority rather than the majority of events that occur – it helps them feel genuinely special.

I think, though, this is a matter of unfortunate timing- the first anniversary of the games release would inevitably be some kind of festival. If the next living story has another upbeat premiss with humans as the focus, though, my patience will begin to wear thin. There are so many interesting stories to tell – about the quagin, krait, skrit, tengu, kodan, grawl….there’s more than just humans out there, and more than just lions arch and queensdale.
