There weren’t enough festivals in GW1

I remember waiting, and waiting and waiting after Halloween for Wintersday.

And right after the Dragon Festival (or Dragon ‘Bash’ in GW2) you would have to wait a couple more months until the Next festival a.k.a. Halloween. (Yeah there were tiny mini festivals like Wintersday in July, April Fools and St. Patricks Day…)

I guess the lack of festivals from the past caused a bunch in the present

Sorry for the typos….
I’m usually typing on my phone

bazaar of 4 winds wasnt a festival, its a part of living story
dragonbash was for july 4th
queens jubilee will be for gw2’s anniversary – they arent just doing these for the hell of it, theres a reason behind them

All three of what you listed are part of living story, not just the bazaar… and yes, a bazaar is a festival. All we’ve done in this chapter, excluding the trials, are festival activities. There was little to no story content at all.

The bazaar is not a festival. It’s a introduction to the merchants the sky pirate plunder.

You have to accept the fact that mini games are just part of GW2.

Once again, festival or not, doesn’t matter. And yes, mini games are a part of GW2, but they are not, and never were meant to be the core of GW2, yet for the last 2 chapters, that’s all we’ve been doing. My fault is not that the mini games exist, but that they are the driving factor of Living Story, when it should be the plot.

You can choose to do them or not. The story does not revolve around the mini games.

Oh? Lets look at the activities and achievements for this chapter, and then tell me that living story doesn’t revolve around mini-games; because it certainly doesn’t revolve around the story. There was only one instance.

The story itself does not revolve around mini games. It’s about the election.

Sounds like you’re complaining about mini games when it’s really the achievements you don’t like. If you want more achievements not based on the mini games, ask for them.

You don’t seem to get it; I’m not saying I hate the mini games or achievements, but that the time and effort could have been better spent installing a story. Yes, the story is about the election, but none of the content with this release has more than a fingernails touch of relevance to that story, to the election. The content is: mini-games and achievements, when it should be instances and cut scenes that tell the story.

Content relevant to the story:
-voting with tokens (direct roll in election process)
-Candidate trials (PR for candidates, their decision to return the gold or use it for themselves, informs us as to what kind of leader and person they are. Yet even this is a laugh as the candidate doesn’t even stick around in their own trial.)

Content irrelevant:
-Aspect Arena (they host a game, we like that game, but creating an awesome game doesn’t make one qualified as a council member, nor does it give us any hint of insight as to who would be the better council member. Instead it tells me they should run for a game show. Maybe it would be different if they both promised certain mini-games, at least then playing their games gives us an idea of what to expect.)
-Southsun survivor (same as previous)
-Supporting your candidate while in dailies, dungeons, fractal, and events (I don’t think this has any effect on whose chosen, its not like every event completed while under Ellen’s banner counts as a vote. At the most, its just another way to get more tokens. Moreover, it does nothing to influence your vote, because we learn nothing of the candidates from it, the candidates don’t even partake. Its support in name alone.)

The point is their content barely touched on any elements of story telling, we didn’t fight along side of and learn who our candidate was, we didn’t see their campaign, their actions whether just or dirty; aside from voting and trials, we didn’t partake in helping them at all. Making an informed vote, we couldn’t be more clueless, because their representations are so shallow.

I stated this in a previous post, but the player base told me to hold off because the story hadn’t been fully released yet; you cant know if a book is good until after you’ve read it all, and at the time, the core of the story wasnt available. But now that it is, I feel confident that it deserves a re-post.

Its great to experience and take part in the festival, but if the plot is based on garnering favor for the campaign trail, then shouldn’t we see and take part in their efforts? Why can’t the designers implement the mini-games into the story and kill two birds with one stone; an interesting activity for players that also furthers the plot.
-Maybe Evon could set hire a mysterious bazaar trader to scam the Zephyrite’s leader into an unfair trade, then swing in and save the day, thus acquiring the man’s favor.
-Keil could notice this and inform the leader, but indebted as he is (and buttered up on onnyberry, as he and Evon are playing a friendly game of Belcher’s bluff), he would refuse to believe her.
-Keil would hear of a trial where one collects sky crystals to prove they embody the Zephyrites spirit and abilities.
-Impressed at her prowess the Zephyrites leader feels the need to rethink his decision, and would propose that Keil and Evon take part in the upcoming sanctum sprint tournament, the winner of which, acquiring his trading rights.
-After Evon loses, the Aetherblades could rush in, revealing him as their backer.

Now I’m not saying this is what should have happened, but its something that could have. Its game play with a far more interactive and in-depth story line then the one we were presented with. There’s so many ways they could have kept this content, yet implement a story, but once again, we are left wanting.

The Queen’s Jubilee is a festival worth celebrating, though. So I approve of this update.

My two cents:

I’m all for more story-telling as long as the gameplay isn’t too “on the rails”.

Personally, I like to explore a new zone and discover it’s secrets for myself rather than being led place to place by NPCs and watching their stories play out while I’m just the helper. While I admire the creative effort that went into the personal stories in GW2, I haven’t finished any of my character’s personal stories, which boils down more to my own playstyle really. In that respect I’m fine with festival content because it feels very “open world” to me.

I understand that not everyone plays like me so hopefully in the next few months there will be a mix to keep everyone happy. For example, my favorite game update so far was last year’s Halloween event. It had a nice mix of story, dungeon, and open-world content, plus some goodies you could craft once the event was over. (I love my Necro’s Crossing staff)
