You may be under the impression that the devs are elitist GW2 players. Being a GW2 dev just means you’re a developer, not necessarily a leet gamer. With the frequency new content is being released, I would expect at least several of them to be pulling 60 -70 hour workweeks, which leaves little time for playing.

Thanks for the hard work, ANet, BTW. I would have crashed and burned long ago in your shoes.

I don’t have any doubts that I can’t complete it, it’s just that I’m scratching my head as to why I’m not finding it nearly as fun as some of you, as I too like real challenging content.

I loved it, because it was more about finding how to do it… finding out how everything spawns and how to turn that into your favor (for instance, I’ve sometimes let the orbs drag me away from the boss to give me extra time if they were in a safe zone).

Once you get the hang of the mechanics in it I just find it really fun to screw around with it to find better / safer ways of beating it.

Why are you complaining? Is it because you think this is bad for the game? Or because you are used to achieving everything merely by playing a lot, and now you see a situation in which that doesn’t work?

Why on Earth would anyone care how someone else achieves something? It has no effect on anyone else’s gaming experience. None.

Unless, of course, one’s gaming experience is highly dependent upon “bragging rights” and feeling superior to other players. Which I always thought was more of a PvP thing, to be honest.

Probably because you’re less concerned with scoring Internet cool points than some of your fellow posters.

I’ve gotten the achievements myself and Liadri is no different from world bosses like the fire elemental and whatnot in complexity. Just a bunch of AoE spam with the added gimmick of having to toss crystals at her. This is exactly the kind of content we don’t need more of since the game is already filled with it.

except you have bad players that cannot handle pvp, therefore try to use pve as an excuse for bragging rights. After all, PVE is about learning the mechanics while in PVP players might not fight the same way each time.

Also you are wrong about this, because this situation can be achieved by playing a lot. If you have enough gold you can just buy tickets and try over and over again until you succeed.

And if you don’t improve while you try again and again, you will never beat her.

Rewarding time spent is bad. Rewarding money spent in the Gem Store is bad, but that’s a given with the way GW2 has been designed; at least the rewards aren’t that big – someone mentioned it would cost more or less US$ 750,00 to buy the most expensive Legendaries, do you honestly expect most casual players to pay for that?

Rewarding skill, in other hand, is actually a good thing.

And if skill is linked to more rewards – heh, if 80% of the rewards in the game are tied to things like Liandri – the game would actually be much better. People who only have a lot of time but no skill would complain, sure, but do you know what the reply to those complaints would be? “You don’t need it to play the game”, which happens to be the same reply those same players use when others complain about how much grind there is in this game.

Why on Earth would anyone care how someone else achieves something? It has no effect on anyone else’s gaming experience. None.

Of course it does. How do you think people get Legendaries? By playing a lot. Do you know why they don’t get one by just being very skilled? Because Legendaries are a reward for time spent, not for skill.

This is bad for people with skill, good for people with time spent. Now we have the opposite – something that rewards skill, but doesn’t reward time spent. Of course players who only have time, but not skill, are going to complain – but haven’t the players who have skill, not time, being complaining all along?

The kind of player ArenaNet is trying to cater to decides how the rewards in the game will be acquired. Thinking you are in a vacuum, and the playstyle and opinions of everyone else playing the game wouldn’t have any effect on GW2, is being rather naive.

Oh come now fellas lets not get judgmental. Everyone who does a little PvE wants to beat the gauntlet. And if you fail, you realize that your not so ironclad. It happens to us all at some point in gw2. The ego is hard for anyone to overcome. Yet, you are still a valuable person and player to your guild, even if this goal ends up being slightly out of reach.

“You don’t need it to play the game”

And then you’ll end up with a dead game populated by a handful of bitter circlejerkers. I’d rather the developers avoided that kind of future by instead designing fair and sensible content.

The Liadri fight, mechanically speaking, is crap. The difficulty stems not from the mechanics of the fight itself but rather things like the bad camera which I think we can all agree isn’t something that should be praised. So why is this bug ridden and poorly designed encounter praised? Because it has finally give the elitists of the community a chance to set themselves apart from the perceived plebbery.

Thinking you are in a vacuum, and the playstyle and opinions of everyone else playing the game wouldn’t have any effect on GW2, is being rather naive.

And obsessing about the achievements of others— and whether or not you think they deserve them — is downright unhealthy.

Actually that’s judgmental from an ex-hardcore player. I played many f2p games before where ego plays a huge part and I noticed how toxic that attitude really is. It’s why I still play gw2 a lot of hours, but I do not bother with legendary (I don’t like the skins they have) but rather with finding precursor to sell and pay for other expenses. If I had the same attitude as before I would be in heart of mists doing pvp 5-6h per day with team. It’s why I think players in pve should not be bothered if the person near them got X achievement. It’s still pve after all

Are you talking about a game filled with skilled players, or a game filled with grinders, farmers and exploiters? Because the latter is pretty much what the game is becoming right now.

And obsessing about the achievements of others— and whether or not you think they deserve them — is downright unhealthy.

Ironic to read that in a topic asking how “others” – the developers – got the “achievement” of defeating Liandri, and if they are “deserving” of that.

Huh. That was quite a stretch. I hope you didn’t injure anything.

Here’s the OP, in case you’ve forgotten it:

So apparently the new content might go this way from now on, so I would be more than happy to see devs doing this content themselves with a video attached. It would be very nice to know how fun they found it after finishing it, assuming they can do it, preferably with a Charr/Norn and one of the underpowered classes like ranger

While I grant you that this specific post does concern itself with whether or not the devs can beat Liandri, I see nothing in there about whether or not they “deserve” it.

Perhaps you’d care to point it out?

Sure. Right where it questions if the developers can actually defeat her, thus deserving to get the achievement. Next question?

Ironically most of the skilled players are probably farming Deadeye for mad stacks right about now. I know I am.

Fat chance. The devs couldn’t even complete the Aetherblade Base dungeon during their livestream.

Right, of course. Because questioning whether or not someone can do something is exactly the same as whether or not they deserve to be recognized for it. Totes.

I think we’re done here.

Obviously. Because, in order to deserve to be recognized for something, the main requirement is being able to do said something. Or are you saying otherwise?
