Sky Pirates ships in open world
Totally agree. My fav expereince in this update was seeing an aetherblade ship flying past a balloon as I watched from a hilltop. This is the rpg stuff I want to see more of in the game. That’s not putting down the rest of the content, but the mini games and rewards focus needs to shift back to world building and atmosphere for me.
The only part about it i didn’t like. Was the air ships not being able to shoot a balloon down. Other then that, I want see more stuff like this in the sky. Not necessarily always a air ship.

Massive air battles?

Gonna take a wild guess and say the Slyvari in the opening ceremony was none other than Scarlet. So that kinda of opens the door to more pirates huh?
Pirates in the sky, pfff…
They should bring back the event where Shatterer flew over Plains Of Ashford and caused open world PvP with corrupted players
Keep watching the skies.
Hmm… The balloons that illustrate the next update are quite intriguing. LS instance in the sky ?
Anthony i can’t keep watching the skies when im inside the queen’s gauntlet, not to mention if i’m a norn or charr being cramped while glitches make it even more impossible.
No sky watching for me
More action on the open world please. The thing with the pirate airships is that you can actually see them from far away causing trouble to poor balloons.
Yes. I love the way balloons and airships have made the zones more visible.
Thank you Anet for great world events you added. I liked the Divinity Reach content, but the open world skyparite and balloon fights add so much more to the living world feeling. Please do more of these visually engaging events and less of lighting effigies and such. Also because there is a variety of events that happen, they feel much more real. Do more of this please.
Keep watching the skies.

A wild Shatterer appeared!
Almost all I do is aimlessly walk around the open world. I don’t know what you people are talking about. The only stupid pirate ships I see are for the balloon chest event.

Before the game world felt like it was only in dimensions. These last few updates are change that. By adding action in the sky. The game will have much more of 3d feel.
Future updated will should more complicated things in the air.
I’m telling you, in the next patch the Aetherblades are going to attack Divinity’s Reach and kill/kidnap Queen Jenna. Just my speculation.

But is that what you are talking about…the pirate ship that shows up for the balloon chest event?
…or did they add something else that I am just not seeing?
Anet should also add some high altitude ships to the sky. They don’t need to be to detailed. But if you see them going in one direction. You know a event is going to happen in another zone.
Also let have ship vs ship battles. Where the downed ship crashes killing everyone on the ground in the way.

This means Anet can make all kinds of events in the air in future updates. The skies after this update will no longer be empty. And they will be able to interact with ground objects.
I see the balloon/sky ship events as the beginning of the new sky’s of Tyria.

There pirates, so it would be a kidnaping. No profit in killing her.
I want more place like Goemm’s Lab flying islands.
Keep watching the skies.

I loved seeing these flying around!
A little bit OT, but I just did a guild challenge for the first time yesterday and loved that it was in the open-world as well! I really love how well ANet has tied in content to the open world.
Completely agree. More of these type of events popping in open world. We have to get the people back out there.
not falling for this one. i bet its that dragon sleeping on the underground that wakes up.
Gotta say, I also love being able to actually look up in the sky and see that something is happening. The first time I saw it I ran over there without even paying attention the event indicators because it was just so visually obvious that something interesting was happening.
I would love to see a once per week boss events. It was something i thought we’re gonna get at release, and i’m definitely looking for it in the future.
I’m telling you, in the next patch Ellen Kiel is going to attack Divinity’s Reach and kill/kidnap Queen Jenna. Just my speculation.
Fixed it for you.
It’s very nice indeed.
However, compared to for instance how The Shatterer flies across Blazeridge Steppes, these Airships had very little movement when flying.
It was almost as were they a still-picture moving across the sky in an animated video.

I’d love to see some balloons in the sky too btw.. Hint hint.
Agreed. One of the things I loved about GW2 when I first started playing was that the world was carrying on around my character (wolves attacking deer, dragons flying overhead and so on). It brings the game world to life and lets you just stop and say, “Wow, that’s cool”.
Keep watching the skies.
Keep watching the skis!
My prediction is that the boars shall be given holographic wings, and for two weeks pigs will fly!
Yeah, I think this is the best part of the update. Having the Aetherblade ships come in, kinda out of nowhere, and start bombarding the balloons. (Not sure how the balloon survive the first barrage, but eh) Hopefully we get more stuff like this. The one in the story instance, not sure how that one managed to get in there like that though. Seemed kinda out of place like that, a huge ship in a hole in the ground, which has a cover over most of the hole.

Listening to the latest WoodenPotatoes video and reading the following debate about lore and story delivery in the game, one thing stood out to me. WoodenPotatoes said a lot of players miss things because there are no rewards for certain parts of the world. Karma is almost worthless, all dynamic events award the same thing and it’s more beneficial to chain farm champion to champion than it is the naturally explore the world and feel rewarded for it.
There is so much content in the open world yet the game does a very poor job of rewarding it.
I can’t watch the sky too often or I won’t be able to see where I’m going…stupid camera:(
Keep watching the skies.

Sorry about that. I’ll open the window.
Aerial visuals are much certainly more interesting and noticeable. It’s cool to do the event and see the airship actually fly off. The event is really not much different than the camp spawns we saw with the Molten Alliance but the visuals really add more impact.
I’m looking forward to see more stuff like that, such as more visible storms/smoke/eruptions as well as flying foes.
Keep watching the skies.

The stranger with the sexy voice? I can’t wait till we see more of her.
Keep watching the skies.
Confirmed: Zhaitan’s death has been greatly exaggerated.
Keep watching the skies.
I did that this evening, and was rewarded by the bizarre sight of pinipals falling out of the sky to attack the balloon emissary I was escorting.
Are these critters part of the Aetherblade/Inquest/Steam creature conspiracy?

I want to fly those ships – take a look at Allods!!
my one gripe – why are they just chilling in random areas? (for the morale events)
though i guess they’re trying to set up a stronghold or ambush the emissaries or something.
oooor, maybe they just wanted to have a picnic. ; ))
jokes aside, definitely loving this new little change / upgrade to events!

They’re supposed to be attacking the balloons, but their cannon fire is rather inaccurate lol Maybe they’re just laying down covering fire to keep the balloons grounded. Though you’d think they’d just bomb a defenseless tower. If there was an anti-aircraft ballista on the tower I could see why they might keep their distance.
Or do they just want to spoil the Jubilee without causing any DR casualities (except the occasional annoying adventurer)?

Personally, I wonder if it has anything to do with the crystal shards that keep falling from the sky in the pavillion. Considering the Queen’s history with Kralkatorrik, and especially after watching the Wooden Potatoes video linked above, I personally suspect that the Aetherblades are not from Tyria, or rather…not from ‘our Tyria’ (as implied in WP’s video). It makes sense to me that perhaps Kralkatorrik, what with his mesmer skills and what not, was responsible for ripping apart reality due to their consumption of magic.
(Gah, edited for clarity. Apologies.)

What crystal shards? The one that the Charr boss causes to drop?
