The MMO part is really lacking here
Oh no…. 0.05% of the game is solo specific content. Whatever will we do?!?!?!
Honestly mate.
Or do you need people to carry you though the gauntlet? I understand of it is too challenging for you, just move on.
I’d love to be able to do the arenas with random people who needed help or just wanted to try some crazy gambits with random players. Not sure how difficult that would be to add though.

Living story is supposed to be the new content for all players. Most players have seen and done the old.
That doesn’t mean every single part of the living story is going to be group content. They’ve said multiple times that they’re trying to get a mix for those that enjoy the various types of content.

So far that mix is skewed in favor of solo players.
Well, I’d argue it’s skewed in favour of those players that enjoy going around the world and hitting F rather than being skewed in favour of players that want solo content.
Canach’s story instance and the gauntlet are the only 2 things in the LS so far that you have/had to do solo.
I don’t disagree with you, though. An additional group set of bosses for the gauntlet would be good. They are bringing it back in the future, so let’s hope they think of adding some 5-man bosses to the gauntlet….so long as they redesign the arena to be a bit bigger.
One thing I really like about this game is that in most cases grouping up with other players is optional. I find it much more enjoyable when it’s up to me and my friends whether we play together and how many of us join in. I also like that if I want to I can just jump in and play alone or with whoever is around instead of wasting 1/2 my time trying to find a group.
Yes you can do the balloon tower events alone, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do it in a group if you want to. Last week I was running around with a group of people from my guild doing them together. Was it a requirement to complete the content? No. But it made it more fun.
Same with the events in the Pavillion. Having not done WvW this is the first time I’ve actually joined a commanders squad and gotten the full effect of that coordination. Then the commander left and we carried on doing the events via map chat.
The Gauntlet is obviously an exception because you have to do it solo, but as far as I’m aware it’s the only 100% solo content in the entire game. Even your Personal Story can be done with a group if you want to. Each Living Story update includes some new one-off modes or mechanics, like the Aspects in Bazaar of the 4 Winds. And just like that didn’t mean all Living Story updates would now require us to learn and use new skills I highly doubt the Gauntlet is the start of regular, 100% solo content. So I wouldn’t worry about it.
(Also personally I’m really happy they did put it in. If it had been possible to do it with other people I would probably have asked for a group to help me right from the start, never fully learned the mechanics of each fight and, like everything else, ended up worrying that I’m a terrible player and my friends are carrying me through the game at their expense. This way I know I can do it.)
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
NO ONE PLAYER in the open world is a solo player. DE’s make it so players have to work together some.
If you are not a party. You still help other players out in events. Other games like WOW have much more soloable content.
I find it very depressing in an MMO when most of the detail and actual depth was relegated to an instanced solo event.
Difficulty, bugs, etc. aside, where does the MMO part come in here? Is it the uninspired zerg events in the pavillion? The soloable Queen champions/aetherblade events in the open world?
I’m glad people who want challenging solo content in an MMO were satisfied, but then it begs the question: why would you play an MMO to participate in a solo event?
I can think of many current titles with comparable difficulty, but better performance and game play than this for single player.
I would like to think that the purpose of an MMO since the days of EQ hasn’t changed: it’s about coordinating many people to do something at the same time, fail at different times, but enjoy themselves en masse.
Granted the 5 player limitation hampers this, but a complete lack of encouragement to group at all, or interact with the community doesn’t really help.
What if the gauntlet was made playable by groups, but with scaling difficulty to compensate? What if you were somehow offered better rewards by grouping with people outside of your guild (only marginally better to make exploitation less desirable)?
Did you fail to notice the massive zergs going on in the Queens Pavilion below the Guantlet?
But seriously, a team Gauntlet would be fun. Maybe next year they can add that in addition to the solo Gauntlet.

How so? You cannot do Crown Pavillion solo, you need other players. Don’t be under the illusion that just because you are running on your own that you don’t require the presence of other players, because you do. Events, world events etc all involve other players.
Coming of the back off MMOs like FFXI, I’m glad I can log in for an hour or two and run on my own when I feel like it instead of spending a long time LFG or I am unable to get a lot done in levelling or end game content. Conversely, there were a group of us who enjoyed fighting HNMs solo, not because “ZOMG we’re so pro” but because it was challenging to do so.
OP means that some of the most meaningful, difficult content in the game is solo. I agree, the complexity of the bosses are similar to raids in other mmos, but without that gratifying feeling of accomplishing it with a team its just not as epic.
Plus the true depth of GW2 combat is its group synergies, not in solo builds.

Funnily enough we had the very same post but the other way around back when Molten Alliance and Aeatherblade Part one had a 5-man dungeon close to the end.
Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
I personally loved those dungeons. But a lot of people were complaining about not getting the meta without doing the dungeons. Which is why gauntlet is in its own category now, but those complaints still persist.
I’m glad people who want challenging solo content in an MMO were satisfied, but then it begs the question: why would you play an MMO to participate in a solo event?
Premise: People who play online RPGs should want to play with other people.
Corollary: People who play offline RPGs should want to play alone.
Therefore, anyone who plays GW2 should not play Skyrim, and vice versa.
Would you like to rephrase your question?
For a second I thought this was a necro from Flame and Frost
Then I realized this is just the typical forum thread complaining about stuff that people had cried for previously.

Non sequitur.
Might want to learn, for your own personal education, that corollaries typically follow theorems and not opinions.
