Watchknights' chests....
Their posterior seems awfully elaborate too. Someone had fun designing them it seems. Although personally I kinda have to roll my eyes at those Sexbots.

Men will be men but thats a bit much. Remove the areolas and should be ok.

Ok I edited my first post with it. I can’t see any mechanical reason why that is there.

Wish they would have spent as much time on the Sovereign skins as they did putting nips on a robot. -.-

How is this not sexualized? I’d say if someone doesn’t pick up the obvious here, they’re the one’s with a weird mind.
im not bothered by it, high heels on the other hand look ridiculous lol
Nudity in art is not the same nudity in porn.
Keep it in Kessex Hills please guys.
There are children here.

It is really the intention of the creator. Given the stuff in Guild Wars 2 thus far, it doesn’t appear to be just art.

Art can be sexulized without it being porn. Have you seen the statue of david.

You’re implying something more nefarious?

Yessssssss! The only real excuse they can get away is the Queen is a Mesmer which in turn = Lyssa which is pretty much all about the beauty and stuff. So it can make sense in some degree in that regard representing the queen. Sadly, I won’t give them credit that was their thought. I probably just gave them an excuse to use :p

Did you really have to give them something that looks like areolas? x.x
Are areolae bad? Are areolae only exclusive to females?
Does the presence of these areola make these robots any less capable, formidable, or respectable?
I guess for me, I don’t see how having feminine traits makes something negative. I don’t look at that robot and think that the queen should have opted for strong, shirtless, robo-men.
I’m personally happy to see awesomely designed, feminine robots, in a position of authority, power, and equality. It doesn’t make me feel like less of a man, it doesn’t make me feel like women are just robots to command.
To me, they are just a really cool design in a video game.
I see them as a combination of art and technology.
The Golems created by the Asura are powerful, but they were built more for function than art.
These Watchknights are the Queen’s showpieces to say “We can make powerful and beautiful stuff”. Why the female body and not the male? Maybe because the sleeker lines work better for aesthetics.
Would I be upset if they made male Watchknights? No, but then again I’d think it would have been predictable for them to make giant suits of armor which move.
This was a different approach and I welcome it. In a way the Queen honors Lyssa by making these Watchknights the way they are. Since she’s a Mesmer that also speaks to the design.
Can’t believe there is seriously a thread on this……
people must be extremely bored.

Not bored so much as sensitive. There are some out there that have been so conditioned to associate certain things with sexism, that they start to see it in many things.
This kind of pattern building is natural to humans. Think of people who believe in UFO’s. They see something that convinces them that UFO’s exist, and then more things start to become confirmation of that. That confirmation, feeds back and makes them more susceptible to more confirmation.
The problem is that it takes a lot of effort to not fall for confirmation bias. It’s much easier for people to see feminine robots and conclude sexism, than it is to use context, reason, and logic to determine whether this is in fact the case.
I don’t blame anyone for that, but I do wish that we were able to have a decent debate on the topic without throwing around loaded buzzwords, and accusations.
Is there any problem in questioning the design of characters in a video game? No, of course not. The trick is to try to remain objective.

I didn’t even bother to read most of this thread to even figure out what point was trying to be made.
I’m all for intellectual discussions about things but at the same time don’t feel that this particular item is even worth that.
I personally play games to have fun and be entertained. These Watchknights could be males with robot kittens for all I care.
Carry on though lol

EW THE HUMAN BODY IS SO DISGUSTING TO LOOK AT
It’s not even remotely sexualized, it’s more artistic if anything. Sexbots almost seems like an insult to the art team.
Props to the designer of the fembot’s cyberpunk themes at the best

pretty much this… it’s a machine and has a female look, so what?

Chests?
I haven’t seen any chests. What I have seen is that they drop their sack. One would expect two sprockets inside, but I’ve gotten up to four! Tyria can be a place of wonder.
Well this was an enthralling thread.
Surely you people could’ve found something better to moan about?
Welcome to the Guild Wars 2 forums, where crybabies roam every square of the frigid forumscape.

Same, I would have thought by now we could have females in games without it being an issue.

I feel * my opinion* the theme doesn’t go well with who they represent even though she is a Mesmer which is then related to Lyssa which is the goddess of beauty. Having them be female is fine. However I feel its been push to a sexual stand point which for example, if Jennah was Succubus queen, I would expect as such if not more such themes.
There is a time for such things and I feel this isn’t one of them and was simply was over done.
Art isn’t always just art either, sometimes it done in a sexual manner without any pornographic material. Dragon Crown is a perfect example :P. Beautiful, art work but obviously someone loves boobies! Even so, it still remains beautiful artwork!
I’m not bothered by the Watchknight’s “details”, although I’ll admit I was a bit surprised by the effort put into their design. I think they look quite beautiful myself. (I’ll probably not think the same way once they go “Terminator” and start trying to kill us though.)
But if they didnt have them, how would they feed the robot babies???
It’d be nice just for once to be able to play a game that wasn’t made for 13 year old boys by 13 year old boys.
There’s boob jiggle when wearing plate armor, eff eff ess.

The face turns me off.
Oh dear, oh dear…
I would understand it if you were forced to stare at those boobs in that size and range during cutscenes or something. Or if there was a mission that turned you into a Watchknight so you had no choice but to check out that butt.
But the most common setting? In combat. I dunno, but I don’t look at boobies while in combat.
I wonder if any of the people here who are complaining about how the Watchknight is supposedly fanservice stopped to wonder if someone just … you know, wanted to make a female robot.
Lol, chests? I think you mean breasts XD

Yeah I guess they literally had no choice other than giving that female robot a set of 44DDD’s and a trunk overflowing with junk.
http://womenfighters.tumblr.com/ for examples of how women could be put into games without being overtly sexualised
Every time you guys do this, you just keep building on the problem that you seem to think you’re fighting against.
This constant assault on anything in any media that has females in it only serves to create a taboo around the female form and ultimately make it so that any female figure must – by definition – be reduced to only her physical parts.

No, it’s not an assault on women appearing in media, it’s an assault on pointlessly hyper-sexualised and unrealistic depictions of women in media. The Watchknights could have easily been modeled in a less curvacious style, but the designers decided to make them SexBots.
