Let me first say that I’ve been in MMOs for 10 years now. In those 10 years I could probably count on both hands the number of times I’ve seen the communities really come together in such a great way that it made me feel so privileged to be a part of it.

Tonight was one of those special times and I want to thank you.

I’m a collector of in game special event items and things of the sort. Minis, costumes, exclusive items to make occasions, I’ve got to have them! So far, I have everything there is to collect. My fiance and I had to work today and I was devastated that I wouldn’t be able to take part in the Finale. I rushed home from work to find a dead Ancient Karka. I was so upset that I had missed out on the actual fight and even more on the exclusive 20 slot box to mark the occasion.

I sat around on the forums for a bit until I stumbled upon a thread stating the event was still active on some overflows. I quickly posted my IGN in hopes for an invite and actively tried every /join that was posted as well. My fiance was trying the same. Just as I was about to lose all hope (again), someone accepted her /join. Once she was in, so was I. Shortly after that, we got a guildy that missed it in as well!

We all had a blast going through the entire encounter and was so relieved when we looted the chest. I got my exclusive box, awesome accessory, and wouldn’t you believe that my fiance looted “Spark”, the precursor I need. She’s so awesome that she gave it to me for free!

That’s one serious turn-around for one night. From total upset to total joy and excitement! This happened because of steps the community took as a whole to help each other out…

Thank you all so much for taking the time and effort you did. I really think the general community of GW2 should be praised tonight.

I wholeheartedly agree with your message. I was there at the time the event occurred, but I unfortunately suffered from crash issues throughout – with the last one occurring a few minutes before the final boss encounter, resulting in me missing the chest. I too stumbled across the topic with open overflows, but I was still plagued by crash issues. Time and time again players kept putting their name out there to get people into servers that were running the event. While my efforts were cut short by the eventual patch, I was so appreciative of how the community came together.

Thank you everyone for an experience I will never forget.

A lot more than that… times like these you can really separate the good from the bad players in terms of ethics and friendliness.

I ended up not getting to complete it, but I agree, thank you to everyone who worked to get us into overflow servers to try it.

Congrats. I wish everybody could have the same positive feeling at the end of their story.

Never got to the end, but yeah, awesome job by those who got us to the overflow servers.

Likewise pleased with the COMMUNITY. Missed the event, through forum was able to get into an overflow with event running.
ANET….NOPE NOT AT ALL. “New Build in…” when I finally get in…So sad…so sad…

I’ve been working on this for hours all night. Trying to get people into overflows and creating new ones. The first server I got in managed to finished the event and time (I even got a Chaos Gun from it) Thanks to all who followed in helping out other player and it really is disappointing that Anet would deal with this the way they did.

I only got to see (and get disconnected from via patch update in the last 20 minutes of the event….) this content / event because of the awesome players helping each other out on these forums. I did the same as the OP, but sadly didn’t get to finish the event.

glad you got in!DD tales like these are what should be focused on more. not saying to ignore the things that do need attention, but it’s refreshing hearing things like this and i feel our community could all use more of it.

am at work now, and i chose to sleep instead last night (4am even starts), and personally am okay with it. didn’t think i would be, but haha, it’s all good, especially after hearing stories like these. glad you, your wife and guildy could get in.

lastly, a big thanks to all those who went o ut of their way to make sure others got a chance in! musta been swamped with pm’s, tells, and seems most of you all came through more than once. and am sure everyone that was on the receiving it, passed it forward, and kept inviting more as well.

If there is one bright thing I can say about today it’s that I was totally blown away by the efforts of players to help their fellow players. You all deserve a round of applause. (I’d buy you all a round at the Whispering Maiden, but I failed to get a Precursor from the chest. XD)

Gratz! Unfortunately, I did the event for hours to get nothing. No chest, no loot, not even a slight chance to get the precursor. Got disconnected from the last part always. :<

I was in a similar situation. I live in Japan, so it is difficult for me to make these one time events. However, I was able to get home early from work and join a server with the event still running.

First problem, I tried to go to a way point and got stuck on the loading screen.

Second problem, I finally managed to join another server with the event just to have
the game crash.

Third Problem, Managed to get back into the server I was in and continue on with the event only to be met with Anet’s wonderfully timed “maintenance”. I tried to log out and rush back to the same area, but the event no longer existed.

I would like to say the community was great, but Anet’s way of managing these things is abysmal. I am seriously disappointed in them.

It’s great fun talking to my friend who got a chest piece worth 40 gold, a 20 slot bag, an exotic accessory, etc, while all I can say is I got kicked out of the event by Anet…

Some people saw some bugs and are understandably feeling a little peeved.

On the bright side it worked out for me as well, it was a blast of an event.

I have an INFJ friend who’s a little…temperamental too ;P

Well considering the thread about getting DCed before the chest has almost 1000 posts in it I don’t think this is much of a leap. I’m guessing everybody on my overflow when everyone simultaneously crashed near the end was not very happy. And everybody on the next overflow when the server was taken down for the patch was probably not very happy. The vast majority of those people aren’t even posting here. So yea, I think thousands is a fair estimate.

Thanks to the folks that got people into overflows, though. They were great.

thanks for the memories of a great community. you may shun me at dungeons, kick me for random things or friends, or call me names, but last night there was none of that going around because i guess we all were busy zerging.

i felt happy to be amongst other players that night.

Agree. While the fail event was so much fail, it was heartening to see people going out of their way and rezzing you whilst in danger of being downed themselves.

This event was a horrible horrible experience for me, but thank you so much for being such a great community.

The best part of yesterday was being helped by the awesome community into the overflow servers and then paying if forward by helping others get in. In all I managed to get ~15 people into the shard I got in, and hope many others did as well.

The community coming together in this disaster of an event was really special. I didn’t get a precursor, but that’s not the point. I got to experience the event – something that wouldn’t have happened had the community not banded together and found the hidden events Arenanet likely missed. Cheers everyone!

I recommend sending in a ticket if a crash or the reboot kicked you out. Get it noted by ANet now for when they do the resolution.

Same here, I’m very happy with my experience. I logged in thinking I had missed it, but with the help of guild mates I was able to experience an amazing event. I’m so glad overflows were able to continue to restart it, people kept logging in all night gasping “I just got home, is it over?” and I’d try to help them get in.
