I’m a bit disapointed.
I think with so many people left frustrated and unsatisfied, it would be wise from Arena Net to offer some alternative to the failure of the 1 time event / 1 time epic drop for the lucky one who were there.
I’m checking the forum in the hope of some announcement, but nothing on the horizon :-/

I received the loot items from the final event but I am curious to see what ArenaNet will do for those unlucky players who did not, esp. since Martin said they were working on something.

One of ArenaNet’s greatest strengths has been their ability to learn from mistakes and it would be nice to hear some word regarding design and implementation issues of Lost Shores in general (and the final event in specific).

I liked the lost shore overall even with its bug but getting kicked due to the servers right before the chest has ruined the experience for me and I hope Anet will address’s the people like me who lost the loot due to glitch’s.

I’d give them some time. The event happened over the weekend, and there’s a holiday this week. I would bet any amount of gold that a lot of discussion about the whole patch has been going on at ArenaNet HQ today, and I know they’ve been reading feedback.

How they respond, and if they respond, will say a lot about them. I don’t think the event helped bolster confidence any, especially when people are already worried about Ascended items. I really hope ArenaNet takes what the fanbase is saying to heart. I can’t think of any time that a development team has doubled down on a truly hated decision or gone silent on the community after a misstep and had it work out well for them, and I can think of several instances in recent memory when it turned out very, very badly.

I actually think it’s a good thing for ANet to take the time they need to ensure they’re responding in a way that’s fair and appropriate. I know it can be hard to wait in the meantime, but in situations like this a kneejerk response can cause more harm than it solves. ANet has to think this through carefully before they take any action.

They’ve said they’re thinking about it and working on a solution. I’m going to take them at their word on that, and assume that they’re doing their best. When they make a decision, it’ll probably be a better one than they would have made if they’d just thrown around extra rewards on the fly without thinking through all the implications.

I’m frustrated with this game and I’ma quit. The way to get precursors isn’t fair. People getting disconnected or leaving my FotM group and screwing us isn’t fair. People running MF gear in fractals is not beneficial to the group. The entire Lost Shores event(s) was the worst experience I’ve had in the game yet. Bugged fights that make you leave fractals and have to start over after playing for an hour with bad players isn’t fair. This is the most frustrating game I’ve ever played and I’m done with it.

Hmm, the question is how will they respond to this controversial weekend. I don’t know if they’ve ever taken this much flak over anything they’ve done in the past. There’s three possibilities, two bad, and one good. First the bad:

1. ArenaNet just ignores it and push on to the next content, never acknowledging anything they’ve done wrong or right here.

This is the tricky one, and a slap in the fact of the fans. Because no one will have any idea of what’s brewing in the background, are they just plowing onward, or did they learn anything from what happened. Either way, if they tell us nothing, they’re going to lose fans.

2. ArenaNet announces what a massive success this weekend was. Announcing record attendance across the board, without acknowledging the the massive lag the majority experienced, and how dissatisfied most were with how it was handled. They’ll call this a major win on their part, and they’ll keep on keeping on.

This is by far the worst move they could possibly make, and by far lose the most people by taking these actions. People want answers, they want to be kept in the loop of where the game is heading, which ANet hasn’t been quite up front about. If they scrape this under the table to save face, then people will view their reputation as tarnished, and that is something you don’t recover from easily.

3. ArenaNet releases a blog, detailing all that happened, outlining what their intentions were, and what went wrong. They need to be blatantly honest here, they need to put out the flames and assuage their fans’ concerns. Their words require damage control and no niceties of what they think should best for the fans. It would be good move for them to start outlining GW2’s road ahead, and do what’s best to keep the fans they have happy.

It would be the smartest move on their part. Start listening and keep people in the loop. It’s what the fans have wanted from the start, and this whole ascended fiasco could have been avoided, but it was handled poorly. ANet should pay closer attention, not try to keep people in the dark. This is a critical time for them.

Most importantly, ANet shouldn’t think they’re above their fandom. It’s the fans that make or break them, and they need them at their side. Many MMOs have faltered by taking the path they’re heading in, and any signs of hubris will make them fall. GW2 started out strong, but to remain strong there will need to be a lot done on their part, and I don’t mean popping out content. GW2 is not above faltering. Even the mightiest of giants can fall.

I really hope that Anet takes advantage of this learning opportunity and listens to all the fans that supported this game for the past 3 months. I honestly feel that it is a nail in the coffin for me if they come out congratulating themselves and being blind to the large number of excluded, unhappy and frustrated customers who were literally singing their praises a week ago. Lost Shores is a game-changing mistake for me. I love GW2 but I am just tired of these one-time events and lop-sided rewards. I have nothing for all my participation in Phase 1 and 2. But, just because I have family obligations, I am completely shut out from the big events and rewards (assuming that lags and bugs would not have stopped me first).

While I have no small amount of sympathy for the oceanic players, I feel I have to remind people that on multiple occasions ANet has said that the timing of these events were set to coincide with the greatest amount of concurrent players logging in. This was not an attempt to single out a certain group, but rather an attempt to include as many people as possible in the event. ANet has also stated that they are aware of the disconnect issues associated with the event and will be attempting to compensate players who missed out on the chest. Believe it or not they do care about their player base.

Yes, and the people who participated might not have bothered at all, because the lag and dc’s made it nigh unplayable. The lag actually being so bad, that it started effecting other parts of the game. To top it all off, they released content, and held invite a friend at the same time, while not having the capacity to support it. I bet you, the number of people who’ll not keep on outweighs those who’d now want to buy the game.
A severe loss on ANet’s side.

Or what about the sudden bomb being dropped of ascended gear, which was ‘planned’ but not mentioned once, not until 3 days before being dropped on the public. And the only response fans heard basically boiled down to: ‘shhh, just wait it out and see how it works out, we know you want this’. From people’s fears I’m not so sure, they’re even starting to question the ANet manifesto. People feel they’re purposefully being left in the dark.

Or what about the FotM situation that’s causing some elitist behavior and cutting some people off from the content. And on the other side of the spectrum, people in LA being bombarded in chat with constant “LFG FotM level 6” or “LF2M FotM 5, no noobs pls”. LA is supposed to be a social hub and it’s being spammed because there’s no decent group finder in the works.

Or to a lesser extent, how about Southsun Cove being an alternative high end zone. Meanwhile there isn’t actually a whole lot to do there. There are 7 events that barely ever occur, and no meta event whatsoever. The zone feels rather underutilized, not to mention, killing the tough veterans scattered around amounts to no loot at all.

People are angry, and most of this doesn’t even concern me, but they are issues that are being discussed a lot, on the forums (and not just here), in my 500 member guild, and constantly in chat. So, there must be something going wrong. Of my seven friends who started the game with me, I’m the only one still playing, and that worries me.

Excellent post.

I hope that they do the right thing and tell us exactly what they intended and where they envision the game progressing in future.

A mention of how they will handle timezone related issues would be welcomed. Also, the planning and thought behind the precursor drop rates should be explained. Even if they can’t ‘fix’ it for everyone.

I think that, most importantly, though, people want to know where the game is headed.

Companies make mistakes. Even though I had a nice shiny pedestal for them… the last few days made me realize: Arenanet is no different. It is how they own up to those mistakes, learn from it and improves that would determine the game’s ultimate success. Communication is the first step…

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to take a moment to let you all know that we are still investigating this issue for you. As Martin Kerstein said in his original post on the forums (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Disconnect-at-the-end-of-Lost-Shores-Event-Read-this) about the disconnections, “We will implement a solution so that people who participated will get their rewards, but this takes work on our end.” It might take some time, but we will make sure to update you as soon as we have more information to provide. Thank you for your continued patience and for your support of Guild Wars 2.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting the Guild Wars 2 Support Team.

We were sorry to learn that some players were unable to receive their rewards at the conclusion of this weekend’s event, due to being disconnected.

Our development team is currently exploring the possibility of being able to provide these rewards to those players that were affected. You can read more about this on the official Guild Wars 2 Forums, located here: (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Disconnect-at-the-end-of-Lost-Shores-Event-Read-this).

Once we have additional information to impart, we will contact you again via this same ticket.

We certainly appreciate your continued patience and understanding while we work through this issue.

My 2c worth on this.

First and foremost, I would say that a “knee-jerk” response from ArenaNet will be counter-productive.

They have many things to think about over this weekend – this isn’t an exhaustive list, but here are some:

(1) Confusing information about the fixes for the investigation chain that left some people unable to complete them.
(2) Lag issues on the events, and how that has affected players ability to obtain the rewards for participating.
(3) Disconnection issues per item 2
(4) Alienation of large numbers of customers that were unable to participate in the event, missing out on the basic rewards (a ring and 20 slot bag I believe?), and the shot at a precursor.
(5) Potentially unbalanced reward structure for people participating in the event

If you exapnd the above list by thinking logically through all the potential issues from all potential sides of the coin, it will necessarily involve a considerable amount of planning and thought as to how to deal with all the issues involved – and I wouldn’t expect anything quickly (in fact, I applaud the fact that they haven’t come back with an “answer” quickly).

What I do find puzzling is that ArenaNet have not, first thing Monday morning, come out with a statement effectively saying “We understand that there were sevaral issues affecting the Lost Shores content rollout. In order to properly, and fairly deal with these issues, we have been reading ALL player feedback, and our plan is to update you with further information by <insert timeframe here>”.

The fact that the above announcement hasn’t been made (barring the announcement about disconnection issues – which, sure, is important, but do not cover most issues), is concerning… I’d have thought something like this would have been top priority (a.k.a. make this after 1st coffee of the morning, then hit the discussion room in HQ).

Well, I just posted a thread about being uninformed as to where to go, how to contribute, and what types of rewards I could receive… I had no idea people had such a high chance at receiving exotics and legendary precursors. I didnt attend the final event because of the lag and bugs of the previous phases, but I would have made more of an effort if I knew I had a chance at those precursors…so I feel very uninformed and left out.

However, the issues with this patch go far beyond just the event itself. They also should respond to player concerns over fractal levels, ascended gear, and some classes feeling left out of changes. There has been a big uproar about fractal levels and ascended gear that they need to address. Any negligance would be a fatal mistake on their part.

They need to address everything, not just one large bit of it. Everything.

Same here, I didn’t even bothered logging in at sunday because I couldn’t even complete phase 1 with all the bugged npc’s that didn’t get fixed (Despite Anet claiming that they fixed them). And the initial event in Lion’s arch was a big UNFUN lag fest. Bam, turns out I missed on the biggest reward ever given in Guild Wars 2 just because I wasn’t there at a specific point of time.

This combined with Anet’s inability to fix the many ills that plague the Elementalist (instead, only introducing more bugs with each patch) has severely decreased my motivation to keep playing. I was such a big fan of this game before, but Anet is trying its kitten hardest to make people stop playing it seems.

This was the response! They responded! And it wasn’t just a maybe. Martin clearly stated that they WILL implement a solution for people that didn’t get the loot. Is there some other definition of the word “response” that I’m not aware of? Does “response” mean “solving everything immediately”???

What exactly do you people want? If you just didn’t like the event in terms of how fun it was than that’s more of a review than a complaint and there’s no point in responding to a review other than doing things better the next time.

So there. The response will come in the form of the next world event and that’s when you get to review again and see if it’s better. So please for crying out loud stop obsessing.

What I would really like to know is who is really concerned by their plan. I know they intend to help people who got disconnected…

But by disconnected, do they mean only people who got disconnected at the last 30 min? Does it concern people who started the finale but didn’t manage to play through completely because it was unplayable?

I started the finale, did the first part, was unplayable, logged off at part 2. Am I concerned by this?

I fought through the zerg, the culling (invisible monsters) and the terrible lag for part 1. I had for 10 silver of repair bill and got 1 silver 34 copper for the first event. Started the second part: was taking forever, even more lag, even more culling, even more zerg and this at a slow pace. I couldn’t do anything useful beside dying from the lag and seeing my monitor turns black from time to time… So I logged off, having faith that Anet wouldn’t punish too hard people who weren’t there (common sense)… Well, seems like I was wrong.

I got nothing at all from doing Phase 1 beside a laggy opening, bugged NPC and a karma jar. Got nothing for doing phase 2… And now I got screwed for giving up on phase 3 because of the lag and the bugs, the only one that really mattered (unlike Halloween where everything gave you something). After the awesome Halloween, this one was a disappointment.

If Anet were to issue a statement/apology for every single thing a players didn’t like, they wouldn’t have time to work on this game.

What exactly do you hope that more responses from them would accomplish? You want lists about everything that went wrong from them? What’s the point? People on this forum have already done so in extreme detail. Anet aren’t children and you’re not their teachers. They’re not going to write down “I will not cause the following bugs in the game:” a hundred times just so you can feel better about yourselves.

I mean what exactly do you think is happening at Anet right now? Do you think that everyone just stopped working on the game? IT’S THEIR JOB! It’s what they’re paid to do for 8 hours a day and probably more. They’re not just going to stop and they’re not going to ignore issues that happen. The only real response we needed was whether there will be loot compensation. Whether they will be fixing bugs and trying to make their system better is a given.

I mean are you really so insecure that you need Anet to explain every single thing they’re working on every single day. Bugs happen, bugs get fixed. This is a given and it doesn’t need exhausting statements from the devs every single time.

So please stop it with this the overly attached community act that has been going on lately. Write on the forums, make your criticisims but please for crying out loud, stop acting so insulted just because you’re not getting a reply from a dev.

While I agree they don’t need to apology for every little mistake they make, more information about this is needed.

I don’t want an apology, I want to know what they intend to do regarding the loot, who will get it, who won’t, why and how it will work.

We will know in due time, I know this, but the only thing they told us is that disconnected players will get something… But like I said, the term ‘disconnected’ is quite vague. So it would be good to just have a sneak peak of who is touched by their announcement.

Please stop acting as though it’s pointless asking for acknowledgement of the problems faced, and drop the hyperbolic “OH GOD YOU WANT AN EXPLANATION OF EVERYTHING.” angle. That’s not what’s being requested here.

There’s a huge difference between the affected player base listing their issues with the event, and ArenaNet openly saying that those concerns are valid, and explaining how they’ll be working to ensure future Live Events wont run into similar issues.

I know that, for me at least, ArenaNet’s response (or lack thereof) will determine whether I ever bother blocking out time in my life to participate in future Live Events. I’d love to experience them, but I’d also like assurance that the problems raised are being considered before I plan another weekend around a Guild Wars 2 event.

A response would be nice

Well, this is their chance to show that they really do listen to, learn from, and value feedback. For some reason, most MMO companies need to learn from first-hand experience that doubling down on widely disliked changes and stonewalling fans doesn’t work and tends to make things worse, usually at great cost to themselves. Blizzard (RealID), CCP (“Monoclegate”), SquareEnix (EXP diminishing returns and ignoring beta feedback in FFXIV), and Turbine (Radiance in LotRO) are all companies who were unable to tell the difference between standard fannish overreaction and serious discontent, and they suffered for it and had to completely undo what they set out to accomplish to regain the trust of their playerbase.

It’s a holiday week in the US, and the event means they’ve had a lot of people working straight across the weekend, so expecting them to say anything before next week is probably unrealistic. But they do have a lot to address, there’s no reason for them not to be transparent with us, and whether or not they respond would be the deciding factor in my continuing support of the game. I don’t expect them to fall on their knees and beg for forgiveness; I don’t need an apology, even, because stuff goes wrong. However, a lot of stuff happened in the past week that shook player confidence in them, and I expect them to be savvy enough to consider restoring it a priority. I don’t stick around for companies to do the “lock the doors and windows and maybe they’ll forget we’re here” thing any more.

Couldn’t agree more. If they admit that a lot went wrong, I’d even accept that as some kind of apology.
And regardless of holidays, it takes about 10 seconds to post for example “We are aware and we will come back with a blog post after the holidays.” That would stop a big portion of the kitten storm they have to take at the moment.

You know there are certain things you can actually take for granted. For example: Does Anet consider breaking bugs, lag, dc’s and other issues a valid concern? Yes they do. Now, they haven’t actually told me this but since there is absolutely no logical reason for them to ignore these issues (after all it is in their best interest to have their game working as smoothly as possible) we can safely assume that this would be the right answer.

As for the HOW, I don’t think a response about that would be coming this soon. A good time in my mind would be during the promotion of their next world event. It’s like before BWE2 when they announced that they doubled the servers a few days before it started. Info like this is great to promote new stuff I think. If you’re upset now, you’d be better off not playing for a while and before the next world event you can look into what they’re planning on doing with it. It’s much better than sitting here on the forums and trying to find out what they’re working on since those solutions wouldn’t be implemented immediately anyway.

If they say nothing about new solutions even as they roll out their next event, then I would understand the concern.

That’s what I’m doing. Until I get the feeling that ArenaNet is back on the old tracks they’ve been on in the beginning, then I’ll come back to play the game. Until then…I’m not throwing any more money at them.
