Just wanted to discuss the new content addition. I for one think this event played out rather nicely – we got a new dungeon and a new high-level map for end-game content. I believe everyone has been asking for this is one way or another… it’s amazing how no matter what happens in the GW2 world these forums light up with armies of QQ’ers expecting the world to cater to their personal tastes and schedules.

What I liked about the Lost Shores event:

-Cool new map with challenging end-game content
-Another world-event style boss (Ancient Karka)
-New dungeon (haven’t had too much time with this, but it seems pretty cool with 8 subsections)
-Introduction of Ascended gear (will likely never factor into my account, lol)

What I didn’t like:

-Phase I and Phase II events were often bugged, and if not were still pretty uninspired (fetch quests)

I did not get a precursor, and who cares! If you’re complaining about not getting one, then you don’t deserve it anyway. Nobody is entitled to loot just because they want it.

I should say anyone complaining about lag is likely complaining about their computer – my experience was mostly butter smooth, and I definitely didn’t have any network issues. My friend (playing from the same local network) had significant lag – I almost guarantee this was due to a slower CPU (which makes sense due to the insane number of players and mobs involved in the event).

And finally, yeah it sucks if you had real life commitments during this event, but therein lies the problem. Nobody can seriously expect themselves to be personally catered to like a little prince. Anet can make these events whenever they want, and I don’t doubt they chose the times that had the highest traffic as they have stated. It’s impossible to please everyone, but this is a ridiculous reason to be qq’ing.

All in all I think this was event much larger in scope and better executed than the first major free content release for the original GW (Sorrow’s Furnace). I’m happy.

I’m sincerely glad you found some enjoyment in this. More often than not, the ones who are satisfied with something are the ones who stay silent about it.

I, for one, enjoyed exploring the Fractals for myself, and I was lucky enough to get into a Fractal before a wiki was posted on it, so it was pure exploration and trial and error. Lots of fun, really.

Unfortunately, this shows how disconnected you are with the problems people are having.

It’s not just scheduling concerns, which are legitimate complaints for timezone discrepancies. There are myriad other issues that made this event unplayable or unenjoyable for customers as well, including hardware and network latency. Shards crashed, settings were lowered and still there were latency issues, and other problems were reported that are inherently not the issue of the PC owner.

The legitimate concerns about not getting a precursor are not that customers didn’t get one, it’s that they didn’t get the chance to get one, and that’s much different. There’s no other way to get them from drops, as far as I know, just a significantly large time commitment and wasted materials in the Mystic Forge.

Your technical knowledge is truly on the whole different level.

I can’t do any anything “legal” about my isp location and trace route to an east cost server which sits behind utter disgrace of servers on a couple of jumps. In most cases an actual DC has nothing to do with what your PC is like… its a network/end server issue.
And again… please don’t talk technical when you have no idea. Lag isn’t the same thing as fps. This games engine is BAD. I still by this very day after months of people reporting it… get occasional but now rare… utter fps downhill/blackhole drop. I run game on max settings 1920/1080 if I run it from single gpu I’m sitting at ~45 fps and ~35 during large attendance events. If I bother ocing that gpu which I can about tripple… I can sit at stable 90 fps in any event. If I run second gpu… then well… I haven’t seen anything from games that required more then 1 gpu to run flawlessly.
Fun fact… when fps bug kicks in… my gpu clocks drop to about factory settings with nothing running so does vram clocks gpu load drops to 1-2% yet fps also drops to 1-5 or 10-15 at best with vsync.
But this has nothing to do with event lag… where either map servers are choking… or engine is breathing fumes. I don’t care to know… its not my problem to fix its Anets.
Also imagining a trace route an australian player has to make… I would imagine their actual “connection” is about as reliable as dialup. Considering the sheer length the possibility of packets getting garbled/lost is astronomical. While 1 lost/delayed packet might not make a world of difference… it can still easily bork it for you or confuse server and boot you.
Never seen this game use much of cpu… bleh… 10% in ancient karka… Now I don’t have the actual number because its on my keyboards lcd and I don’t really care for cpu load/temp…
Also things like thiefs rendering delay issues are not lag/fps/end user related. Its game engine doing a kitten job. A thief can run around un-rendered for up to few seconds at times.
All in all… again… don’t try to be technical when you don’t know jack. I know that my knowledge is very limited and small and I do not try to make it out as any more then just that… basic knowledge here and there.
Also bs like booting people out of event because anet is butthurt isn’t productive. I got dced after hours of work then finally went back in to try it again… got close only to be slapped in the face by anet… not even some random disconnect.

The new content is great. I like the jumping puzzle (apparently there are two, but I’ve only seen one – looking forward to finding the other one), the new zone is fun, challenging and attractive, and the new dungeon is fantastic.

Not so happy about the events associated with them, which were inadequately tested (phases 1 and 2) and poorly designed. (phase 3)

Still, since the parts I didn’t like are over and the parts I like are still around, it’s a net positive.

I’m glad you can throw out some zingers like trace route. I’m perfectly aware that when most computer-savvy people refer to “lag” they refer to network connectivity issues. And I can testify that Anet’s servers were performing seamlessly during my interactions with the Phase III event. I’ve never experienced this so called “fps” drop, but I’m sure that may be a real software issue. However, I have seen none.

It’s nice for you to make this personal, but your amazing display of technical knowledge that you assume I lack can be mustered up by spending ten minutes on Wikipedia. I’m not here to argue who has superior computer networking knowledge.

All I’m saying is there’s too many qq’ers with an inflated sense of entitlement. Be grateful Anet bothers to make new content for us. It sounds like you would’ve been happier if you weren’t allowed to enter the content at all.

I gotta admit I lol’ed at that screenshot – that must’ve been frustrating…
