You can make these in the MF using the new item that Miyani sells called “Donation Package”

So far i’ve been able to make one using 3 random prepared foods and it gives me 1 commendation. Costs about 4s per comm

Anyone find a cheaper/ more efficient way to make them?

Idk if I’d say “cheaper” but I’ve been finding a lot of rares and masterworks recently. I usually salvage em or melt em down into the forge for a chance of getting something great. I’ve been throwing them instead into the forge with the donation package, and using 3 rares, made 50 badges

blues can get you 6 or 7, and greens get me 10

Are you saying the donation package is another wild card item for the forge or is it exclusively for making commendation badges?

What, then, do you use the commendation badges for?

What can you do with these Captain’s Council Commendations?

Hmm I used 3 lvl 74 rares and it gave me 150 comms. Guess it might be a random amount.

I"ve googled and wiki’ed “captain’s council commendation” and can only find info like the above, about recipes to make them.

I just think it’s odd that people would use mats to make something, not knowing whether what they’re making even has a purpose.

Are these commendations currency of some kind? What’s the deal?

They are a currency to buy stuff “or Donate” to the lady in the center of LA near where the statue is being rebuilt.

All the following MF combinations require 1 Donation Packaging (DP) purchased at Miyani for 1s04c:
1 DP + 3 x (10 level 40 and under food) = 1 token
1 DP + 3 x (10 level 60 food) = 2 tokens
1 DP + 3 x (10 level 80 food) = 3 tokens
1 DP + 3 x (level 80 fine weapon) = 8 tokens
1 DP + 3 x (level 80 mastercraft weapon) = 12 tokens
1 DP + 3 x (level 80 rare weapon) = 140 tokens (roughly 50c each)
1 DP + 3 x (level 71 exotic armor pieces) = 550 tokens (roughly 40c each)

At that rate, the Exotic Liongaurd weapons are about 5g each.
Remember you can get the skins for karma north of Lion’s Arch.

So, on my server it costs about 2.23 gold to get 3 lvl71 exotic armor pieces and a donation wrapper, and on the CHANCE that that gives you 550 tokens, that’s about 1.96 Black Lion Keys.

2.23 gold —> 1.96 BLK

It currently costs 3.93 gold to get 5 BLKs via gem exchange.

3.93 gold —> 5 BLK

If you do the math, clearly it costs less gold per key when you just go with the 5-packs of BLKs for 450 gems.

The commendations are a waste of time and money.

Short answer is… not much at all. Methinks this is just a not-so-clever gold sink.

There is also a trader in the Piazza that sells you weapons for captain’s commendations.
I bought a bow as a skin for my thief for 25. but the real goods are very expensive- if you want to use it as weapons that is ;P

Yeah I don’t see how this is even remotely worth it. Am I missing something? They’re just exotics. Their skins aren’t all that impressive and as far as I can tell they’re not even unique (someone please correct me if I’m wrong). Why would anyone want to do this? How is this considered rewarding or fun?

The fact that the TP is across all servers isn’t even that relevant. It wasn’t an essential detail, it changes nothing about my math or the fact that it’s cheaper to get commendation rewards by other means, like gem exchange.

They are plain to ugly exotics (assuming level 80) which end up costing you approximately 6 gold for something you can buy on the TP for 2 to 2.5.

You should re-read the chain. I simply pointed out a correction to your post – you chose to take it negatively and consequently responded as such. I wouldn’t be surprised however if the method you proposed regarding ArenaNet’s implementations were correct.

So everyone knows how to get this stuff.. but no one can tell us what it is for.
