Confused, when is the new land available?
It is.
15 chars.
You’re kidding right?
No kidding, the Karka island is the new content brought in this patch.
I’d be interested to know how much you were expecting for a free, monthly update.
Stop already with the “free game” argument. They are making more money than they would out of subscription fees. Thats the whole reason for this game model. Dont be fooled that you dont pay monthly fee. If you havent payed any money in the Gem shop, other ppl have. They pay for the updates. They pay for development of new things for this game.
The update is certainly not free. If ppl wouldnt pay for stuff fro the gem shop, there would be no update cause there would be no money to pay for it.
Something which matches the hype ANet created around this event. One boring expanse of island space full of boring mobs and a few buggy events? Why was this not put in with release?
You’re kidding right?

About two months after launch and …. what? You’re expecting Cantha?
Content doesn’t just equal new PvE map…
Surely these items already existed in the long term plan anyway as they were on the map.. You can probably work out which areas are coming next.
Did i say i was expecting Cantha? No, don’t be stupid. I was expecting two or maybe three island/explorable areas
But I must also say that I expected more. One jumping puzzle, not even map completion thing, no skill points challenges, absolutely no underwater content (even though something is stirring in the Sea of Sorrows…)..

I was expecting a zone that was on par with other zones in the game. Otherwise, what’s the point? A cute novelty for the weekend, to be deserted and forgotten afterwards? It would have been better to spend another few months making it a worthwhile expansion, than to give us something pointless for “free.”

They said they were adding an island that was smaller than the other zones. That’s what they did. Why would you expect more than that?
Also, they added FoTM, and a new sPvP map.

Well, there’s 1 PvE map, 1 PvP map, and 1 dungeon… = 3? Or did you want 2-3 PvE, 2-3 PvP and 2-3 dungeons?
Two new jumping puzzles, new achievements, new item skins, new condition, new item rarity, new monster, new lore?
Just a little bit extra content here and there feels good enough for me. But then again, people have different expectations and different speeds of going through content.
Obviously you don’t play other games that leave content out of release like this and make you pay for it as dlc.
I have played lots of games over a long period of time. And I have gotten my moneys worth 10x over from GW2 compared to most of them. These free events are a bonus whether you like them or not.

In all fairness, I would love to see much more new item skins and new jumping puzzles.
The island that they did give us is boring. The terrain mesh dosen’t even look like it has been ‘sculpted’ like with every other zone. It looks like it was randomly generated with a few extra terrain models piled ontop. There is nothing of interest in the new zone, nothing worth going back for.
Like someone else said, not even anything map-completion related.
Monsters are boring, the Karka look all the same and most mobs don’t even have a path set out, so they just stand still constantly.
It really does seem that this is a beta (unfinished) zone
they update the game practicually every week , if its just maintenance or small updates . it does not always mean new lands will be added. this will happen when time goes by!

Monthly update….? It’s been 3 months since launch and this is the first update. And just cos I didn’t pay upfront for it doesn’t mean it came free. Their salaries are still paid by the box sets and gems we continue to buy.

2nd update. The Halloween one counted

If you consider what you get for your money. $60 or what ever it was in your own currency. Compare that to other game genres on the market. Any AAA title RPG, or FPS etc. You get 20-30 hours of gameplay if you’re lucky and then nickle and dimed on DLCs and map packs.
Of course they’re making money, the question is, are you getting your money’s worth?
100+ hours of gameplay even before this latest release, and then a new map, new puzzles, new dungeon with multiple paths, new skins , new story with no necessity to pay any more than I have done already. I feel I’ve got my money’s worth, and anything they add from here on out is a bonus

It is your decision to buy gems.No one forces you.The gems pay for the extras you get for them.
Lost Shore is free. The hours I have put in and the content in the game covers what I have paid 10x over I feel.I guess alot of people here complaining about the content do not play singleplayer games and just MMO’s.The content of sp games sometimes does not last 8 hours gameplay. And you have to pay for the smallest of dlc content.
Anything we get free is a bonus to me.
haha poster above beat me to the punch.
I guess alot of people here complaining about the content do not play singleplayer games and just MMO’s.
If they just play MMO’s then they should know that 2 large events, a new map, a new spvp map and a sizeable dungeon added within the first 3 months after the game launches is something they should be grateful for.

It’s not an invalid point though. The update is free to me because I haven’t paid for it. ArenaNet developing content for everyone, regardless of how much money those people have put into the game, is still a different scenario to content updates in subscription based MMOs.
I’m not saying that ArenaNet don’t make a heap of money out of the game, or that we can’t dislike content just because it’s “free”. I’m just curious why people are so dismissive when we’ve had a steady flow of additional content since launch.
2nd update. The Halloween one counted
Halloween didn’t add anything permanent to the world, or anything that changed anything. You got a backpack. Yay…?
Sea of Sorrows
Well, the Halloween patch did actually add:
30 new events
2 new mini-dungeons (I think?)
3 new jumping puzzles.

And it’s a seasonal event that didn’t stay, hence not what players would traditionally call “content” patches.
Sea of Sorrows
Sorry, I should have clarified – I singled out those 30 new events, 2 new mini-dungeons and 3 new jumping puzzles because they were permanent additions that remain post-Halloween.
It’s easy to be upset by how incredibly poorly the 3 day event went in terms of technical execution, but when you step back and think about the permanent features Anet added to the game it was a pretty incredible patch. The new dungeon is really cool, and the new PvP map is probably neat.

Guild Wars 1 had this model for awhile before opening the cash shop and they did just fine with updates. (Remember Sorrow’s Furnace? No cash shop but it was released anyways.) Anyways, someone else on this thread had a valid point in that they specifically have not paid anything in the gem store and thus the updates, to them are free.
If people weren’t buying from the cash shop I’m sure Anet would still be rolling out updates. I just hope they can reduce lag and disconnecting next time.

Keep thinking that. If there would be no money flowing to ANet, the company would have no way of paying the devs their monthly checks and there would be no content coming.
For the content that stays after the special event they delivered roughly what I expected.
The FotM dungeons are very awesome and above my expectations, while the new island trails behind what I expected of it. The size of the island is about right but to me it feels unfinished. They need to add a few skill challenges and vistas. Maybe hearts (I think hearts should be in all zones not just low-mid level ones).
