Dead in Fractals = GG
Team either has to revive you or strip naked and suicide so everyone can respawn in the same spot.
You die, you weren’t rewarded for failing. How preposterous.

I never said that. Its bullkitten that one person can continue on and get the reward and no one gets kitten.
Basically every PUG out there, not one person cares about the other. Left me for dead, walking right past me.
Don’t PUG, problem solved.
most pugs aren’t like that, i always stress reviving before we start, and as soon as ppl get into the ryhthm you don’t have a problem, and the fights are much easier.
First — suicide is painless in GW2, no armor damage.
Second — it is ok to die in FotM and get revived by your team. In all aspects of GW2, if you don’t get there to loot, you’ll lose out.
How many times have you sat watching your corpse in wvw, surrounded by shiny bags you’ll never get unless someone revives you?
We had the same problem in the statue fractal last time we did it. Not in a PUG: one of our team died, but we could not see is corpse. He could see us going around him but we had no option to revive him. Then my toon died and people could see it and revive it, but still no luck for the first dead.
Our team the Hammer was laying on the ground but none of us could interact with it, totally wrecked the dungeon we had to start all over again after people left of course…
heaps of bugs in the Giant Fractual..
Also many Fractuals don’t register in our monthly as well, i’ve done 7+ and it still says 4/7 completed..
Most pugs have gotten used to “Everyone dead simply waypoints” and doesn’t rez. This is a new thing. Stack that on top of the lots of generally bad players already and you have a recipe for mouthbreathing.
So time to train everyone. “Don’t stand in the fire. Rez the downed asap…” etc, etc.
This is a big issue with the colosus path, if one of us got knocked down to the very bottom we had to suicide or send someone to run all the way down then back again.
Just did the giant and got 5 fractals….

I think that this is great and I hope they implement a system that continues promoting team play…
These dungeons should be about TEAM PLAY! So it is great that there are no way points… Probably this was not intended, but think about it! Dungeons and PUG parties lack team play, strategy, tactics! If they would take a step further and promote coordination, discussion… how can that be bad? Today, I die in a dungeon, run back to way point! No single word I share (unless I am doing it with guildies)! That should NOT BE like this!
So… find more ways of encouraging people to coordinate (the swamp map is a good example! Everyone should have a role to play in the mechanics), to talk and to play with the notion they are just not someone in the middle of someone else and that, whatever happens, you will get there!
They need to implement an option for the team to all vote to return to the last checkpoint if a downed player’s corpse is unreachable. A game should never put players in a situation where suiciding is beneficial (even if there are no penalties for doing so).
They should also make the chest unopenable if a team member is dead.
The mechanics of the fractals are a good start though. This is starting to force teams to actually play as a team for once. It’s much closer to the death and respawn mechanics of GW1.

The game is designed so every player can assume any role. Some are better than others, but you have no dedicated tank or healer. No one depends on what you provide. As a result there is not way to really measure those in party who aren’t pulling their weight.
After several hundred hours of play I realize this is the weak point of the game. It’s the fault line under the concrete. It’s the cracked foundation that makes the doors never close just right in a house. It’s broken design at it’s core.
When people say “GW2 is a lonely MMORPG” or “Gw2 is missing something in team play” this is what it is. You simply don’t bond with others players in combat like you do in other MMORPGs where you have dedicated roles.
If they don’t fix this I will leave the game over it. I predict the game will eventually die because of it as well.
I’d advise you to just be patient. My corpse was sitting there for 5 minutes on that map but eventually people decided to res me to come help finish it. I didn’t rage at them, I just let them come to their senses on their own. I mean they could troll you on some map… yes… but they’re going to be trashing the party and you don’t have to confirm you’re ready to leave if they beat it without you… so it’s rather self-defeating for anyone to not realize that teamwork is better. They most often will, just learn to not ever freak out in a PUG and things will 99% of the time work out.
I’m taking it that it’s not worth logging in because they dropped the ball on the fractal dungeon in terms of reward, polish (bug free), mechanics and of course difficulty?
@sam:
Honestly I agree and disagree, slightly more pronounced or flexible roles would be nice but I don’t think the “I’m a tank/healer so worship me” attitudes should make a comeback.
really, people are complaining about the rewards for the level ONE difficulty fractals ? WTH you do realise there are NINETY NINE levels to this…
Don’t PUG, problem solved.
Well, not exactly. I wasn’t pugging but doing the grawl fractal there was a hole in one of the walk ways directly above lava. Fell. Died. Maybe it was my fault that I wasn’t paying as much attention as I should have been but the unfair part is that the rest of the people in my group couldn’t get to me to revive me. They went on to finish it while I sat there twiddling my thumbs for 10 minutes because I couldn’t respawn.

No, the guy you responded to is correct. If everyone suicides (no gear damage from falling) you all get the option to respawn at a checkpoint. You lose no progression and generally just have to walk through the last area you completed (should still be clear).
Probably not the most graceful way to do things, but only a PUG would complete the entire fractal down a member when it is so easy to get them back up.

tbh in other MMO’s it was only the tank and healer you could truly see if they were pulling their weight

not true as you can parse the combat log in many mmos to see if dps is up to snuff
DPS in other MMOs was just a matter of setting up a macro and snoring your way through. No real room for skill.
