The donation packaging indicates you can donate planks and ingots, put placing either one in with the package shows I don’t have anything else to complete the recipe. Anyone figure out how to donate materials like this?

i bought some armor from the merchants, but i don’t feel like wasting gold buying up cheap armor sets, or destroying my saved sets. i had some karma armor, and it gave 6 tokens

have you tried with 3 different types of ingots or planks? I didnt try mats directly I tried once with food (3X10 food and seemed to need a lvl req on the food) and random junk blues I had in my inventory. Got 8 off the junk but only 1 off the food.

Yeah … I’m having trouble as well. I’ve tried with diff types of ingots but haven’t found a combination that works. I can only put the donation package and two types of ingots or planks. Didn’t try with weapons because I didn’t have any cheap weapon or armor stuff. Maybe I can try with food. So far I’m just frustrated. Can’t get past this forge problem.

Donation Packaging + some random blue weapons (80 lvl) gave me 8 tokens.
Donation Packaging + some random karma armor (2lvl) – 1 token.

I’ve used Food and Weapons so far. I wouldn’t waste food unless you’re a chef with loads of spares

• 10x Food A, 10x Food B, 10x Food C (different Halloween foods) = 1 commendation
• 3x lvl 75 white weapon (same or variety) = 3 commendation
• 3x lvl 75 blue weapon (same or variety) = 8 commendation

Think it’ll work out about 3 gold using the TP to get the tokens to buy an exotic.

i was expecting to scour the beach for stuff – i did not think i had to purchase items from merchants to put into the forge. only used 45 silver to test, and i don’t really have any useless items on any of my characters that i want to get rid of.

i wish i could put lion chests in them.

Don’t we all wish we could do something useful with those stupid chests.

Yeah .. this whole mystic forge thing is frustrating … still trying to get a correct combination. Thanks Kaz and Halo. You’d think that if they need donations they wouldn’t be so picky about what items you can use. And why some items give more commendations than others doesn’t make sense. I need this to continue with the storyline I’m assuming; so I still haven’t made it to Lost Shores. =(

I put in 3 exotic armor pieces (1 lvl 80 and 2 lvl 71s) and got 600 comendations

So what do you do with the commendations?

I made 19 each off of mithril chlor earrings (x3 + 1 don tix)

At best it looks like 40c per recommendation point. 5.2g for the exotics. 1.14g for a key and the rest of the stuff isn’t worth the money unless you really care about a few bag slots.

3 level 16 white weapons gave me one commendation

Okay .. I think the problem is that the items that will work are not always highlighted items. I bought some armor and none of it showed up as something I could use. But when I placed those in the forge anyway it did create a combination. … 3 exotic pieces will give you 160.

I think you use those as currency on the island or for items to use there. Not sure.

3 freshly crafted exotic torches got me 140. I just want a key as I have not had a key drop in weeks. Down to 3 fine transmutation stones and 7 lion chests. Curious if this is cheaper or more expensive than just trading for gems.

2.23 gold —> 1.96 BLK

It currently costs 3.93 gold to get 5 BLKs via gem exchange.

3.93 gold —> 5 BLK

If you do the math, clearly it costs less gold per key when you just go with the 5-packs of BLKs for 450 gems.

The commendations are a waste of time and money.

And that’s just the best case scenario. Usually, it’s an even bigger waste of money than the numbers I used.

Hopefully Anet gets the hint that we’re not going to be happy about “exciting new events” that try to dupe us into a gold-sink that wastes our gold.

It’s not only costly in terms of gold, it also has some kind of DR or is getting silently nerfed (without any updates). I’ve put 3x blue karma trinket (lv 30) and got 10 tokens. Then 3x blue karma trinket (lv 45) and got only 9. Then tried lv 30 one again and got 6 or 7

The level 80 exotics you can buy with commendations cost 1300 comms. If you throw in 3 level 80 greens, you get 12 comms. That measn 108 (or 324 greens) throws to get the required 1300 comms. If you sell those greens directly to NPC vendors, at 1.4 silver per (ish) you get approximately 450 silver (or 4.5 gold). Add in the 1.5 gold it costs for the 108 wrappers and you are paying approximately 6 gold for an exotic weapon that yiou van buy in the TP for 2- 2.5 gold.

Sad really. And the 4 I looked at were plain at best and at least 1 (the level 80 shield) downright ugly.

Well the exotics have a superior karka sigil for 10% damage and that might be handy. Also the Orichalcum picks and axe 250 stack for 33 is a steal.

80 lvl blue junk for 460~ karma = 8 tokens, green 80 lvl karma junk = 12 tokens.
At least rare Lionguard weapons are not salvageable and can’t be used in the forge =_=

I need to retract my earlier statement, that was 3 level 80 RARE torches for 140. So the key math must be a lot different.

Really its 25 commendations for a skin if you want it. Are these the only Exotics with that stat combination?

i had 6 lvl73-ish exotics that i gain during leveling rewards that i had no use for, it gave me stacks of 10’s tokens, placed three exotics and one donation packaging that gave 11 and 12 stacks, i now have like 1168 captains council commandation tokens.

Edit: the stacks where Crates of Commandations and one has 50 capt. counc. comm.

..so just buy the cheapest excotic’s and you have your commandations cheap and easy
