I’m not sure what genius thought it would be a good idea to offer a “one time” event reward that is better than any existing dugeon/story/map-completion reward. That asside, players were obtaining the reward multiple times. This was achieved by exploiting the staggered execution times in the overflow servers as follows:

1. Complete event on main toon
2. Log to a different toon
3. Zone until finding overflow server where the event was still running
4. Repeat at step 1 until out of overflow servers or toons
5. Cha-ching I have multiple rewards!

I saw one player link 5x the reward chest. Just more salt in the wounds of players who could not attend the event just once.

Nah, it sounds like an exploit to me.

I don’t think he needed 5 characters. Seems like he could have just used the same character and exploited the overflow servers.

Considering the only exotics really worth anything are precursors, and those dropped regardless of player level:

ie lv 3 toon gets a low lv exotic and a lv 80 NAMED exotic. All exotics were lved (or deleveled) except the exotics that only have 1 lv attached to them (the named ones which include precursors can only be lv 80 as far as I know).

The same character would have seen an already open chest when he got to the end of the event. Alt characters however could open the chest.

The exploit requires using different characters. ANet flagged a single character as “completed” and would not allow that same character to re-open the chest. What they missed was alternate characters.

I don’t think it was intended that players “hop” from overflow to overflow to rerun a “one time” event. That makes it an exploit.

No, one character could only loot the chest once.

This is not an exploit. Getting the reward twice on the same character would be an exploit, different characters seems fair enough to me.. If he has put the work in to get 5xlevel 80’s then fair play I say.
