Why is difficulty progression limited per character?

I see no reason at all for it to be like this. I have 7 of the professions at 80 and enjoy playing them all. I do not want to have to start at the beginning difficulty for each of them. Some groups might not have a good spread and being able to swap to a char to fill the gap is very useful.

Agreed. If normal dungeon tokens are account-bound and not soul bound, that means a core dungeon design imperative is that any PLAYER should be able to enjoy using any of their characters as a specific “tool” with which to run dungeons. By the same design logic, then, the difficulty unlock for the Fractal dungeon should be account-wide, not character-specific.

I wouldn’t expect it to be any other way. Maybe I played too many MMOs before GW2.

If I get on another character, their map hasn’t unlocked map waypoints, they don’t share karma, 400 crafting on one doesn’t transfer to all, not have access to story-line stuff til they do it too (even tho it’s the same stupid story)…

If I get on another character, their map hasn’t unlocked map waypoints, they don’t share karma, 400 crafting on one doesn’t transfer to all, not have access to story-line stuff til they do it too (even tho it’s the same stupid story)…

I see what you’re saying but they did make dungeon tokens account bound so that you could run dungeons on your preferred character. Why didn’t also make story completion account wide I still don’t understand. (and it bugs me to no end I’m not ever going to do a story mode again)

I just know that I’m going to end up only running fractals on one single character and probably with only one single group of people simply because I don’t have much interest in having to do fractal level one 1,000 times.

For myself I would say it’s good it is this way. I still haven’t done it (and even any of the dungs on the game even though I got 80lvl few days ago) but I might in the future. And I share the account with my brother. Both of us have characters on it, and I suppose it would be weird if I went up in difficulty and then my brother could start from the spot I left on.

Though I suppose when you have many characters you play frequently it might be a little annoying. I still have to try the new dung (or any of the dungs really…).

How would you swap characters for Fractals? Getting DC’d or leaving the current Fractal blocks players from getting back in with their party, I would assume character swapping would do the same thing.

I prefer it to be per character, simply because playing up another profession for FotM is easy and fast since you already know what you are doing, and on the other hand prevents the notion of people without proper agony protection joining in higher tiers just because they did on their other character and being a drag.

I would prefer it to be account wide, but just to play devil’s advocate I can think of one very compelling reason why it shouldn’t be. Weeks or months from now most people will have reached a relatively high difficulty level and be unlikely to run lower. New players, or those just reaching 80 will have a very tough time finding groups to work their way up the ladder. Having people who still need to grind up their alts at least provides a small outlet for group formation.

These two reasons are why these things should be per character. I haven’t done any dungeons on my alts or invested in their gear, and it would be crazy to expect them to perform on the same level as my main. Realistically, I’m also not as good at playing them, since I have less practice with them in a dungeon environment.
