Q:

Live events are rarely successful and ArenaNet should have known better.

It increases the scope for things to go wrong and given it’s a live event it merely exacerbates problems.

Making the decision to ‘go live’ immediately upsets the ’can’t make it’ sector. Having upset those people from the get go you really need to ‘nail’ what it is you’re doing to highlight why people need to put their lives on hold to participate. If you don’t nail it you’re merely highlighting the pointlessness of making it live.

The fact that it’s live means that if you miss out, you can’t do it again. Given the rudimentary nature of human psychology where people REALLY don’t like to miss out. If you fail to reward those people that attended, you suddenly have a huge problem.

My summary of The Lost Shores has been a buggy, glitchy, laggy, crash ridden environment with ‘routine maintenance’ thrown in at the worst possible time. Where quest chains could not be progressed and special events were cut short.

There was no reason for this to be live. I expected more from ArenaNet and the fact that they used this event to kick off the free trial that we invited our friends to has left a lot to be desired.

A warrior, a guardian, and an elementalist walk into an open field…
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”

Mad King event in LA was very nice and all one time event should be like that. It was fun even with little lag and rewarded limited costume item only. If you do live event that give you items that will net you enough money for rest of your game time it’s not working. And I don’t mean lucking precursor. You get 20 slot bag that’s worth 10g+ and 3 exotics.

I bet tons of people don’t even need to buy gems with real money anymore… with 200g+ from precursors they will get tons of gems.

Very well said. This shouldn’t have been a live event.

Peoples – not, sure. But ANet needs in our money to continue their work.

Let’s hope they do learn from this.

Western Europe’s conections are horrible, as they simply won’t allow this kind of concurrence.
There’s many other bottlenecks in Internet connections all over the world, so this will keep happening no matter what theydo on their side, and no matter what players do on their sides, because the main problem in in the middle, where nobody can touch.

There should be a “historic records keeper” NPC that you can talk with to ask “What happened here?” and revive the last event until the next one, giving people time to see the content and do the stuff at their own pace, without feeling like second rate players, even though they paid as much or even more than those who were lucky enough to be present and not be hit by countless bugs, glitches, crashes and lag.

Yes, let’s remove one time events! And while we’re at it, remove dynamic events altogether, because you know, some people can’t be in-game 24-7 and thus cannot see every event out there. Let’s just assign all activities to NPC’s and mark them somehow .. maybe an exclamation mark above their head? That would be awsome.

Why don’t we just abandon MMO’s and just make single player games so noone ever misses anything?

I mean seriously. If you get upset for missing a one-time thing in a game how the hell are you managing real life?
