I am frustrated and not finding this fun
I can’t go into the cave yet. It has two POIs that would make me 100% this place. Can you?
What cave? I am still in Lions Arch.
They’ve invested in several test servers, trust me. What they don’t have is millions of people to test. Unfortunately, you simply can’t always predict what’s going to happen when an update is deployed to production.
Give Anet time. They’re learning. It will get better.
Communication breakdown has been a huge trend I’ve noticed since returning to Tyria. This event has been a debacle. Players shouldn’t need to come to the forum and look up a GM/CM post to see if they have done all the steps to the event; they should be self-evident. One step should lead to the next, logically.
Disappointing.
The battle has moved from Lion’s Arch to the karkas.
Go near Sanctum Harbor Waypoint in Lion’s Arch. There is a transporter NPC near the boats/docks that will transport you to Southsun Cove.
Yep im really dissapointed in Southsun Cove….

If they would be actively testing with more than a handful of people, somebody would have noticed that several classes have severe new bugs. There’s just no excuse for that. Anbody would’ve noticed that within five minutes of playing.
I just want to say first off, A-net I love you to death for making this game. This is the first MMO I have ever stuck around in long enough to get to max level. I play almost every day for many hours. I really do enjoy this game a ton. That said, this event has been the first time in this game that I have not had fun. When the LA events spawn the lag just goes through the roof, I can not hear or see anything, the amount of bugs is just frustrating.
As I type this my character is standing watching people attack over and over the giant Karka boss, his life goes to about 50% then resgens back to full health. Now this could be a bug or perhaps it is players not understanding what in the world to do. Which brings me to another point, the events this weekend are very confusing it seems to be unclear what needs to be done in order to progress to the next part. I know I am not the only one who feels this way, many people have complained in map chat about this.
Perhaps the lost shores needed a bit more testing before putting into the game. maybe this is good reason to invest in a test server? I really do not know, I am just frustrated, I was really looking forward to this event, but am truly disappointed with it. Again I know I am not the only one. I am not going to sit here and cry fowl or rage quit, Just sharing my experience thus far. Like I said, I love this game and have no plans on leaving any time soon. Just wanted to express how I felt about this weekends events. Which by the way, this is the first time I have ever posted about something like this in any forum.
This sums it up for me so far. I cancelled plans I had this weekend to take part in these events. 1st one wasn’t too bad, pretty much what I expected (including the lag) but the huge repair bill from constantly getting killed hurt and I was a little annoyed at the lack of reward. Tonight (the 2nd event) was extreemly disappointing. 30mins standing around watching the catapult get built and then a 5min firefight (again no reward apart from minor karma and xp). The quests I have not been able to complete (Or even start) because of bugged or missing npc’s.
Overall, this has NOT been fun or enjoyable for me. Others may have had better ‘Luck’ I don’t know. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will have at least a little fun on the final event. I am not optimistic though.
Yeah, I agree. Not only is the event extremely confusing, getting information from ANet on how to progress is like pulling teeth. Then the actual events themselves are full of lag and bugs.
Waited on overflow for the LA event. Never happened. Event moves on. Go figure.
Tarnished Coast Server
I’m going to have to agree. Even though I will get trolled to death by the fanboys and undercover employees posing as regular players.
This event was very disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea of running around and trying to figure out where to go and what to do. But the bugs truly did ruin this event. Act one is still bugged on some servers and its a pain sitting around waiting for a fix. I’ve been waiting since yesterday to complete it. I get home from work today, and its still not fixed. And now people are telling me its impossible to finished Act one. The stupid NPC isn’t even spawning and I waited a full two hours.
I know the Dev’s are probably working hard on other things, but this is absolutely ridiculous.
Had the same problem on our server, the Ancient Karka would go instantly fully heal at 70% health, and all conditions on it expired immediately. Gave up seeing the event ever finish after 1 hour.
Moving on to the new island, first event I get into I promptly get my face stomped into the ground without even getting a chance to fight for more than 5 seconds. That’s as long as my Stability buff lasts. After that I spend the remaining 20 seconds being permanently pulled back and forth between 5 different enemies (4 of which spawned right on top of me while fighting the first one) being unable to fight back, heal, flee or do anything at all but die. Not fun. At all.
Armor has seemingly been made totally obsolete in this place. In Orr I could stand my ground against 1 veteran or 3-4 regular foes most of the time (Guardian with 3250 armor and regen about 170 health/second). Here I’m near death after a 1 on 1 with one regular enemy. Trying to melee a veteran is out of the question. (I hate dying. I build my characters defensively and play cautiously. In 250 hours of playing I’ve died 4 times. In 10 minutes on the new island I died twice.)
Massive anticlimax across the board for day 2 of this event. Lost all motivation to play any more GW2 today.

Karkas heal after they shed their shell.

I love this game, but I do agree; this event is really unplayable. However, calling anyone who disagrees with you a fanboy or an undercover dev doesn’t help anyone or solve anything.
“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”

Well, at least I know Cloth mechanics didn’t get ninja-nerfed……
really annoying, 1 hit from a Karka and somehow i am 1/2 my health….(I am level 80, and 1/2 exotics….)
Then a warrior comes in, 2 shots a karka takes no damage, go figure…..
and being ranged is quite useless also as karka somehow have range spells also making it even harder…….
tbh, im kind of disapointed on the new zone, no exotic karma merchants, very small IMO……oh well it will do

“Face a brand-new species, earn unique rewards, gather new crafting resources, learn new recipes, and much more! Lost Shores will change the face of Tyria—don’t miss it!”
This is a quote from their page on lost shores on the home page. New crafting resources, plural, but the only new crafting resource I am seeing is for cooking, and its level 50 passion fruits. Is that it or is there a new type of ore node or logs? I feel like I was led to believe there would be more than that. Perhaps new crafting recipes for weaponsmith using new ores or logs, but just passion fruit is that it? Thats a bit disappointing really. It also says learn new recipes, what new recipes? The ones for cooking using a lvl 50 passionfruit? Is that it?
Yeah feeling just a little let down tbh.
I am in complete agreement with OP. Love GW2, but this event is poorly implemented. Between the broken NPCs and feeling lost re: objectives on Southsun, I may not bother completing the event.
I understand that one-time events grant the world a dynamic feel, but the added stress of time on top of bugs is just too much. I need to go for a walk—or do something else besides GW2, at least—and relax.

Guys, if your expectations are that high, start paying $30 a month, or else please appreciate what ANet has done and stop complaining that much. They obviously don’t have to bring out new contents in such a short time.

True. I wish they would stop bringing out the content and redirect those resources towards fixing problems with existing content.

My expectations aren’t high, but when they say they are adding “new gathering resources” and only add one type when they insinuate there would be more than one, well then I have a right to be disappointed. Free content or not, and on what planet are you from where MMO’s have 30$ per mo. subscriptions?
Guys, if your expectations are that high, start paying $30 a month, or else please appreciate what ANet has done and stop complaining that much. They obviously don’t have to bring out new contents in such a short time.
Exactly!! I’d rather have Anet not bring out new contents in such a short time. Anet should test their contents so it works properly, rather than they bring out bug ridden contents month after month, just to leave the user base frustrated and confused.
GW1 was such a great game, and it was free. That was Anet’s business model, and they stuck with that model with GW2 also, so please take your “since you’re not paying monthly subs so shut up and appreciate everything” arguement somewhere else where it belongs.
Arenanet, not everyone “lives” your game. Most work or go to school or have important real life events that control our play time. I missed most of the stuff yesterday and when I got home found things to be rather unplayable. So you fixed it this morning and set a new cutoff on noon pacific time today…guess what, some of us work Saturdays, too.
I am sure I am not the only person for which this event was impossible to do, which is both highly annoying and contrary to what is “good” for your game. You have said you want to make your game for casuals as well as hardcore players, but this timetable you have set for this event only serves the hardcore.
You really, really, REALLY need to stop doing these short windows for events. While they seem good on paper, all you are doing is disappointing a portion of your fan base. If this has become your goal, thats cool, I will move on to another game. If not, then reconsider your gameplan in the future. And for the record, I do love your game, but if I see this kind of timetable again, I am gone.
Thanks,
Arke
I’m largely disappointed.

Eventually we stumbled across the new NPC that was ferrying people to Southsun Cove (to one of two points, but this choice was unexpected and the consequences of choosing one over the other were unclear because they were never mentioned before that time).
I arrived at Point Pride and we blindly defended an NPC against invisible enemies again for a few minutes, capped some points for siege equipment that I never saw being erected and arrived at a camp.
Everyone within the camp walls was instantly downed by a cheap shot from a campion Karka that appeared without warning (even warriors with full exotics; I myself have full exotics on my Elementalist).
Then the champion was beaten and everyone was dispersing because there was a lull in the dialog, so some players missed the start of the event to ‘make a road’.
The event chain eventually split into two, but this wasn’t clearly presented to us. Do we follow the Consortium crony? How were we to know that was an option when the Lionguard NPCs was so against it to begin with?
And then that was it! We followed the NPC until the event chain didn’t lead to other events, and then we were free to explore. But no one explored right away, because we were all running in circles looking for the next event in the chain that didn’t exist.
The map is disappointingly small, the events are the same old events as everywhere else in Tyira (gather some eggs, defend this point from that enemy, guard this person on patrol).

The event-chain at the new zone was very confusing, should have been some kind of climax at the end, now we just arrived at camp karka and that was it.

I don’t think the expectation of having well-tested events that are highly-advertised and hyped bug-free is a high expectation.
I also don’t think it’s too high of an expectation when one pays money and expects a good quality product for one’s hard-earned money.
If ArenaNet doesn’t have the resources to put out good-quality content then they need to hire more staff (developers, quality assurance, designers, managers, whatever it takes) or adjust their release timelines to put out a good product.
If I were ArenaNet and I released this product with the hopes of attracting new players by giving out free trials I’d be supremely embarrassed by how the Lost Shores event has been going and wouldn’t expect many new players.
Those burrowing worms with their 17k hits sure are fun, my 2 dodge rolls work well when chased by 3 worms all attacking at once.
DEV HINT: Insta-death = suck game mechanic.

If you run a business and start selling a service, people who pay for that service generally expect it to be in proper working order. When you buy an MMO, people also usually expect there to be content updates and events over time. It’s not like buying a console game, which tend to be static.. and even those usually have reliable updates, these days.
And before even selling it, Anet mentioned there would be content updates. It wasn’t some neat bonus you found out about after buying it, it was one of the selling points.
It does not make a lick of difference whether you paid $60 one time or $15 every month for the rest of your playing experience. It wouldn’t even matter if you only paid $5 for the game, you still dished out your hard earned cash for a service that isn’t working as implied when you paid.
If a commissioner paid me to draw or paint them a picture and I drew it how a five year old would, I sure as hell wouldn’t be surprised if they called me on it and told me to fix it. Since they paid me for a service and they definitely did not get what they paid for. I can’t just tell them “tough kitten” and move on with their cash in pocket. That would be absolutely shameful and I would expect lots of people to jump on me for it and for my business to suffer. And I would deserve it.
I have had to fix commissions before, even though I was tired of the piece and I really just wanted it to be done with. Because I’m the one that screwed up, I’m the only one who’s responsible for that. I’m not going to punish my customer for my failing.

No it kitten well isn’t.
He essentially argued that ANet’s product isn’t “in working order” because their content update had lag issues and some of the lead-up events are bugged. It’s an MMO in it’s early days for chrissakes. The update included some great new content as well, which no-one seems willing to focus on, and I for one am glad they gave us what they did instead of nothing.

I agree as well.
Although this game is nice, I really think you fail to deliver your promises. Maybe you should tone down a bit, get things working. I paid for something which was and still is not properly working in many cases. If you guys were selling broken televisions, I would have rightfully gotten my money back.
And don’t start with the ‘you know how complicated an MMO is’, ‘every MMO has bugs’, because: no, I don’t know. And I don’t care. You make a promise to your customer, you have to deliver.

I found it perfectly well-reasoned.
Content updates are part of MMOs.
GW2 calls itself and MMO and has promised content updates.
It is reasonable to expect (as a paying customer) that the product works properly.
We bought the game for $60 + so we ARE paying customers.
Many of us have also purchased gems.
This content update, so far, hasn’t worked very well, and as it’s “one time only”, it won’t be fixed in the future.
I think that although they haven’t yet put any serious thought into PvP, at least the PvE portions should be polished. From the event so far, its clear that this wasn’t tested very well. Please don’t do another event like this, i feel almost embarrassed telling people about how great this would be.
It’s also clear that focus isn’t on fixing issues since launch (bugged events in Orr, Dungeon bugs, Skill bugs, etc..). I would understand if this was due to some priorities, but I don’t quite understand where those priorities are. Very confusing! I would love to promote the game more to my friends, but hard to give positives lately.

Hi there,
This may help you out:
Karka Shells, Passion Fruit, Passion Floer
I won’t be able to respond to all the comments on all the forums. But our wiki is a great source of information (thanks to all that help!) as well as our forum stickies.

Sorry, let me clarify my warrant for agreeing with him.
I write software for a living, on a contract basis, and I have two startups under my belt. I’ve been a VP and a CO at both of those companies, I love my work and I’m good at it.
I do exactly what the OP was talking about in my own work, and have the exact same expectations impressed upon me by my clients and hold myself to the same standards.
I know how it’s done. I won’t be gracious for a sub-par product, as a gamer and as a software professional.
If you have actually talked to the marked NPCs, read what they say, and read the letters you got, you would have known where to go and what to do.
Yes, GW2 doesn’t spoonfeed you, doesn’t just mark a spot on the map saying ‘go there, do this’. Not always, at least. And when it doesn’t happen, loads of people are ‘lost’ simply because they are not used to actually getting info from, surprise surprise, the game itself.
The NPCs and letters give out details where to go as opposed to general hints during the Halloween hunts. It’s been made much easier already; how easy do you want it to be? Just your another MMO level of organisation because you can’t be arsed to actually immerse into the world, talk to marked NPCs, read the letters you just got and just act on it?
With 70 people online in my guild throughout the one-time events, i can only say that the lag issues were not observable by everyone; heck, not even by majority, especially today. Most of us had no problem playing the game, no freezes, no lags, no rendering problems even. There were some unfortunate guildies who couldn’t move at all due to 20k ping, but given the overall ‘testing group’, lagging is mostly something either on your end or on the way, completely out of control by either you or ANet.
Sorry, let me clarify my warrant for agreeing with him.

I admit, I did assume that people didn’t know what they were talking about, which in your case, wasn’t true. I take back at least part of my snarky tone.

I’d say you should also allow for people’s experience being different from your own. You description of “some bugs” does not match my experience. Every single event I attempted during Lost Shores was broken in some way. My experience may not be typical, I don’t know, but then yours may not either. Without knowing, the best thing to do is to give people credit for writing their experiences (and conclusions drawn therefrom) accurately on these forums.

Just your another MMO level of organisation because you can’t be arsed to actually immerse into the world, talk to marked NPCs, read the letters you just got and just act on it?With 70 people online in my guild throughout the one-time events, i can only say that the lag issues were not observable by everyone; heck, not even by majority, especially today.
I’ve been in teamspeak with about 80 people in my guild and I read what people wrote in the chat, as I was stuck on an overflow server I saw that people from all over Europe complained, and I can confirm that there have been massive issues. I have been disconnected myself. Also, many people didn’t receive those mails at all, except the one they got on every zone change. And so on.
So no, it’s not their fault. It’s ANet’s. They failed miserably. Again.
I don’t know. This is a new game and they do things in new ways but still i should be abble to play this event or instance or what ever it is w/o instructions.
I logged in Friday afternoon and it was so confusing with these emails that point to locations that i just had to quit and do something else. This community is new and not very help friendly so if you try to ask questions you more than likely will get ignored . So i tried today again but it is worse now. Looks like it is full of bugs and everybody is chasing something and to busy to answer questions, i hear complains about things that that i have no idea what they are and never seen a thing like this in a game. Hopefully its over by Monday whatever this thing was and i will find out more in the forums.
Guys, if your expectations are that high, start paying $30 a month, or else please appreciate what ANet has done and stop complaining that much. They obviously don’t have to bring out new contents in such a short time.
People pay for the game. People also pay for gems. They should get something better than nonfunctional crap.
I actually for one think the events they create for us are great. Even more than great.
What I’m missing however, is a red thread. I have no clue where to go. I have to go to reddit, dulfy’s or whatever to actually get some idea as to what i want to do – Then i can go have fun. It would just be real nice if it was a bit clearer where to go and why. Hold a carrot in my face please
I agree with many of the other posters criticising the bugginess of this event. The quality level of the game just isn’t good enough, the lag and pop-up yesterday was terrible, Noll was completely bugged and tonight the ancient karka never semed to show up in the overflow server I was on, the trebuchet was built then the boat appeared. If the karka showed up there was no indication of it where I was standing.
I really hope you reconsider these kind of one-off events. They’re too messy and far to easily missed. I think that events that kick off every hour or two over the course of a few days would be far more enjoyable and accessible to more of your players.
I also hope that your next update is better tested.
There is only one thing worse than making your players bored – making them feel frustrated.
Half are right and half are somewhat right.
While we did pay for a product the fact remains that MMOs ARE a complicated beast and one that can’t be tamed as quickly as we all want it. We paid for a product and the expectations that came with that product yes, but we also willingly paid for a product that comes with certain limitations, such as the inability to be perfect all the time. This is something that everyone knows and understands.
HOWEVER
Noone likes content that’s literally unplayable due to bugs or lag.

Arenanet, invest in some sort of PTR.
I’ll say it again,
PTR.
If you want to release content updates at the current rate or even at all, the very nature of your game literally BEGS for a PTR. Almost even requires it.
The events all rely on one another to work properly and if one fails, they all fail.
Clearly your in-house testing group can’t get it all done and we don’t expect them to but you really need to bite the bullet and “spoil” the content before it goes live so that we can test it for you.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
Allow some way for your public to test these content patches. I literally see NO reason not to let us save for the threat of spoilers but in all reality, due to the very nature of MMOs and the internet, noone really cares about them anyway.

I can deal with the content bugs. What I can’t deal with is the unacceptable lack of clear communication. All of their prior statements indicated that we should essentially just work up to noll and stop. People backed off of events and are now missing the other event chain because AN’s customer service reps have no idea how to communicate in a clear manner. That’s the most heinous part of all this.
Halloween content was awesome.
This content is frustrating. People aren’t getting things done. People don’t know what they should be doing because they aren’t assuming that things are bugged.
Just a very strange implementation….and then removing things knowing that many people couldn’t do thanks to the bugs….that’s just the salt in the wound!
Agreed. Not fun.
