What irks so many people about the event is that many players got to complete it multiple times (hopping overflows on different characters).

Meanwhile so many players were completely cut out from the event (like me) because our overflows with the event running were taken down at the last minute due to crucial server maintenance being performed at 10pm PST.

And of course, a huge amount of people never got the opportunity at all to do it due to work, family, or other RL obligations.

Everyone should have an opportunity to partake in the event, experience the content, and roll their dice on the big chest at the end. This is not what happened yesterday.

There were still servers running the event after 10 hours? Jeez, I thought my overflow was slow taking 4 hours…

Finding an overflow still running the event was exceedingly difficult (you had to find someone or know someone who was in it), and being able to join that overflow (as there were so few left, they were full) was nearly impossible. But still, many players managed to do it.

At the very end however, before we could complete the event, the servers were brought down for maintenance being performed at 10pm PST.

The chest should only have been able to be opened one time per account, instead it was one time per character.

So essentially what occurred is a small number of people got to open the chest multiple times, some people got to open it once, and many others never got the chance at all due to disconnects, server crashes, or random server maintenance at 10pm PST. (((You should have seen the forums when this occurred)))

The fair thing would be to adjust the event so that the chest can’t be opened again by those who already did on their account, and run it for another 24-48 hours.

Give everyone an opportunity.

I missed the “live” attempt because I was in an overflow that was so overcrowded you literally could do nothing. I spent an hour trying to do (what I later found out) to be the very first part of the event chain and eventually ended in an infinite loop after trying to rez at a waypoint. I had to ALT-F4, and then I was unable to log back in. Around 8:30p.m. I saw people saying they were having success with overflow so I gave it a shot – 3 hours later I successfully completed the event. I then had my GF log in (who was busy doing work with a deadline) and after 1.5 hours I FINALLY got into an overflow for her with a live event. With about 30 min or so left of the event (almost done with second ridiculously long wave of adds right before the blow up 12 piles of whatever) – restart for the new build… I was so disappointed and upset…

I second the notion to give everyone an opportunity – to be honest, Anet’s mistake was making the reward TOO good – had it been cosmetic they would not be having a near riot on their hands.

If the reward was lousy then you’d have people complaining it wasn’t worth a 3-4 hour (or more depending on disconnects and the like) time it took to complete it. Can’t really win in a situation like that, someone is always going to be unhappy about the reward not being good or being too good.

Nothing about this event was fun in my book.

Customers who were left out due to its arbitrary time window didn’t have fun and being left out engenders a sense or loss and anger. Not a smart move.

Using this as a mechanism to distribute precursors – absolutely stupid idea. Why not instead send each account a random box to distribute this chance at instant gratification?

Everything about this patch and event is flawed.

Does anyone in the Dev side play devils advocate and look to those left out when designing these things? I thought creative types were supposed to have better developed left brain connections and see negative space better.

Ya my wife and I are really unhappy. Parts of the events we were there for were bugged and broken and the parts with rewards happened so quick we didn’t get to play them. Seems ANet forgot they made a global game that covers many time zones. If this is how all events are going to be done, my wife and I will look for a new MMO.

P.S. an equalization of rewards and game face time needs to be made to the players. Well ANet we are waiting for your response to this mess. Last thing we want to see is some post on how well things went. Ball is in your court.

This.

I’ve noticed that no one in ArenaNet is saying anything about this in a constructive manner. Most threads here don’t have an official response, and those that do are just reminders to stay on topic or some other non-committal nonsense.

I want to know what ANet learned from their failings and I want to know how they plan to adjust to customer feedback.

And I want to know now.

Again, a very simple solution:

Adjust the chest so that it can only be opened ONCE PER ACCOUNT, and reactivate the event for another 24 hours or so.

This solution will satisfy many of us and afford us the opportunity to experience the event/content and get a chance to roll dice on the big chest at the end.

Give us an opportunity, that’s all we’re asking.

I was able to get in the event. However it was in an overflow, and we had Lag. invisible mobs, and all the other things there where complaints about.

If they did that though, very few people would be willing to help out those who are doing it for the first time. I can’t imagine anyone would want to do it for no reward. I’d be afraid some people would be stuck in an overflow where not many people were doing it.

Assuming that ANET even agrees there was a problem, it may easily take some number of days before they decide what to do about it. First, they have to decide how to even broach the subject.

They cannot simply come on here and say, “Oops… OK. Maybe that wasn’t so smart. Let us talk about it and we’ll get back to you.”

Give them a few days and see what comes up.

I also missed the event due to other obligations. I had just enough time to discover phase 1 was bugged and I ended up doing almost nothing. I’m disappointed, but mostly for simply missing the content. While I would have loved to have all that extra money… I’m not in it for the money grind, but for the story, the immersion, etc.. I’m sorry I’ll have to watch it all on YouTube instead of having experienced it for myself.

I’d prefer not to have short-term one-time events. It seems to me that they could just be one-time for each account (or character). But then there’s be significant balancing issues… a zerg here, 6 people there. Oh.. I don’t know.

Still.. sad I missed it.

Sure they can. In fact a message like that would go a long way.

Me too. I think most of us can agree that the event was a failure. I’m personally fine with that. Everyonce in a while the Devs are going to get things wrong, but my concern is what they plan to change next time.

Will they continue to make bugged / confusing events with very short windows of time for the players to figure out what’s going on and get bugs fixed?

Will they still be giving out major rewards to only a selcet few players who happen to make it online at a certain time and survive the glitches?

Will they still be doing “one time events” in the future?

Will the continue to cater to hard core group PvE players, while ignoring the casual, solo and WvWers in the game?

The event itself was terrible, but the answers to questions like these are what will decide my future playing this game.

I really enjoyed the event. I sacrificed what I would otherwise have done on Sunday (which for me is watching football with friends).

I think everyone did have an equal opportunity. It’s just that some chose to attend, and others did not. Life is about choices. Was it more convenient for some more than others? Absolutely. Does that make it “unfair”? Not at all.

It’s not like there wasn’t weeks of notice allowing people to plan if they really wanted to.

I’ve played another MMO, where there were occasional one-time events…that always seemed to occur while I was at work. Thems the breaks. I wasn’t mad about it. I could have taken off of work to attend…I chose not to. I had to make a choice, and work trumped video games.

The only people who I think have a legitimate gripe are those who tried to attend, but couldn’t log in or those who did attend, but got DC’d and never got the chest….and Anet has already stated they are looking into helping those people out.

This is incorrect. Last night before the servers were taken down for maintenance at 10pm PST, my overflow which was in the middle of the event was FILLED with people who were attempting to do it for the first time. These forums are filled with posts from customers who never got a chance to complete the event, but who desperately want to do so.

No, but they can say:

“We recognize that the final stage of the event did not run as smoothly as originally anticipated. We apologize for the inconvenience this caused, and are in the process of developing a solution which will allow those who missed out on the event (whether through disconnections, time zones, server maintenance, ect) to have another opportunity to experience the event and it’s content.”

Ect ect ect. This would go a long way.

Make it so that the event runs for another 24 hours or so, and the big chest at the end can only be opened ONE TIME per account.

This would resolve an overwhelmingly vast majority of the complaints and disgruntled players.

I think what most people are “pissed” about, is the fact that the chest offered precursors to begin with, especially with such a high ratio…and the fact that some people got it do it multiple times, and in some cases gained multiple precursors while others couldn’t even do it.

Most people wouldn’t cry so much if precursors weren’t involved…and it would have been a lot easier for ANet to fix as well if it was just 2 exos, the earring, the bag, and rares. However, with precursors being given out…that’s another whole different level.

I’m not saying they won’t. In fact, I hope they do say something of the kind. But I don’t feel they can do it so quickly.

If there’s nothing within a few days, I’ll be a sad puppy. Until then, I’ll hope they will.
