Loot/Drops from champion and veteran mobs
I would like to know what other players think about the lack of drops or reasonable drops for the effort. Killing a champion or veteran should at least drop some kind of progression item. Progression items give the player some sense of accomplishment.
Well…
They have already increased the drops for better quality gear substantially. I’m not sure how much you play but it is really noticable. You used to run a dungeon and get 60% white quality, 30% blue quality and 10% green quality, with maybe 1 gold drop every 3-4 dungeons (with no magic find gear). Now, with no magic find gear you get 5% white drops, 50% blue drops, 40% green drops, and 5% gold drops.
It’s really quite substantial, especially when you consider they also added money rewards to all the bosses, plus bags that give karma and money.
I do agree that champions should have a higher than average chance of giving good loot, but they can’t exactly give it guaranteed gold quality or it could be exploited pretty bad.
As far as armor appearance that is really personal preference. I think there are quite a few nice looking sets, though I don’t love them all. Some people hated WoW armor, so you will never be able to please everybody with that.
Now, where I really disagree with you is on armor stats. Guild Wars (both the original and GW2) is not about gear treadmills. They have a cap on gear stats so that the game is less about what you are wearing and more about how you are playing. You can spend time trying to get an armor set you think looks nice by running dungeons for dungeon armor, saving up money for cultural sets, or working on your crafting for one of those. Red quality (legendary items) will always be best-in-slot EQUAL to the tier beneath it (Ascended, pink items). This is to prevent people who have gotten a legendary item from having any advantage over players who haven’t. It’s a skin. It’s got wow factor, but it won’t make you hit harder, or faster, or anything like that.
I ran the new dungeon several times yesterday and I do think the money rewards could be increased a bit, but it might as you get into higher difficulty ratings (anyone gotten very far yet who has some input, feel free to chime in!). Personally I got to Difficulty level 4 and got 5-6 gold gear drops, a dozen or two rare crafting materials, and a few cores (easily 2-3 gold worth), as well as 120 tokens.
Overall, I disagree. I think that ANet has already made substantial changes to the loot system and the game is infinitely more rewarding. There could be a little tweaking for Fractals of the Mists and Champions, but the rest is fine.
I agree with Jnetrocks. The loot table has been vastly improved (and especially in dungeons)
I haven’t quite noticed the Champs dropping anything of value so far (blue at best – but I’ve only killed about 5 champs since the update and 4 of those champs was just killing the Contender in Orr multiple times) which isn’t a big enough sample to base any opinion off.
I think so far, the rewards are now decent to the point where I’m not going to say anything negative about them anymore. Just keep at it mate and you’ll notice it has vastly improved (moreso in dungeons than open world as far as I can tell).

Dungeons may be improved, and I can’t complain about normal PvE drops. I’ve only noticed the item drop issue specifically with the Karka. I’ve gotten drops on small karka and other creatures on Lost Shore, all normal and blue, but not a single item from veterans (10+) or champions (3-4)…and for much of it I was running +20% magic find…I only switched to stronger armor when the group got smaller. In regular PvE veterans and champs always drop “something”.
I got a rare killing the champion guarding the chest at the end of the stones puzzle, and a chunk of crab meat from the one near the lair where the final battle will obviously be. Obviously I trashed the rare and kept the delicious crab meat to put all that butter on!
Nothing really glows or has animation, its all very bland and lacks excitement. I am talking about the vendors in lions arch where you turn in instance currancy for equipment.
-Ascalonio-an Catacombs weapons
-Twilight arbor weapons
-Cathedral of flames armor and weapons
-Sorrow’s embrace armor and weapons
-Crucible of eternity weapons
-Arah weapons
All of these pieces of gear have either a glow effect or animation. If none of these suits your fancy then you should try to get a different cosmetic weapon skins from the mystic forge or trading post (there are plenty to make). Guild wars has always been a game where the grind is for cosmetic gear, not stats. If you want a specific cosmetic, work for it.

Even the non-veteran mobs on Southsun have veteran level HP and damage if not higher. Arah mobs are listed at level 83-85 but these are supposedly level 80 and hit like 85 vets. The vets hit like champs and the champs hit like legendary mobs. This is on a guardian WITH toughness gear, no glass cannon spec. Something is definitely off with the effort = reward of the new content.
