Missed the One Time event : [
To make u feel a little better. I was at this event.
It was so laggy you couldnt use skills, see another player or Karka and the drops, wait whay drops?
You didnt miss a thing my friend.
I wish I had missed it…
i missed it because its at 4am and i could only get 2 hours of sleep
Don’t worry about it. There were two very simple cutscenes, both of which are probably on youtube now.
The battle would have been epic, but every server everywhere had too many people. Basically an hour long lag thing with enemies culling in and out. To give you an idea, the 30 second countdown at the end took about 2mins to complete.
The enemies were a new type, but didn’t really have any new interesting skills or challenges. (Plus they’ll be sticking around). You weren’t rewarded with any sort unique item. Some people managed to get Karka shells, but it was very difficult to obtain even a few.
Point being, you didn’t really miss anything worth experiencing.
I’m not blaming it on Anet either though. Zerg didn’t even begin to describe the number of people present.
Most of the people who turned up for the one-time event, missed it.
Colossal server-based lag and disconnections galore wrecked it.
The One Time Event is Sunday the 18th… you haven’t missed anything yet..
even though it was discussed to the point that i thought it was common knowledge, i think they have a rough time getting messages to the entire player base. i don’t know if there was a way to throw something up on the launcher or what.
if it helps, i think it’s safe to say that anyone who showed up for it (and it was way past my bedtime as i work at night) missed it too. the lag was COMPLETELY out of control (i spent 40 seconds at one point trying to pop my courage and then gave up because…that and dodging are kinda irrelevant if they have a 40 second+ response time.
i’m not sure what was going on but it was pretty disappointing to see people’s work and planning essentially ruined by network bs. it seemed like it would’ve been fun.
i gave up after about 20 minutes since there was no achievement tied to it (thankfully) and went to bed. sooooo yeah; that’s what you missed. i’m hoping the npc’s are fixed when i get home tomorrow so i can pretend that today never happened.
Well if people being upset at missing one time events isn’t enough to make them ditch the idea, the constant lag fail of every single one of them alone should kill off any future intentions of doing the same thing.
It flat out didn’t work. Too many people, too many particle effects (if you’ve ever been in the middle of a massive three way Stone Mist fight, add that to crippling server lag worse than the BWEs and you’ve in the ballpark for what these events are like) and too much lag, any fun that was to be had with this content was destroyed for most people who did attend.
The weird thing is, GW1 did almost this exact thing with the Dragon Festival, except it was several times throughout the day and was instanced. It worked A LOT better. I’m pretty sure with all the problems this content has (even ignoring the players upset over missing out) they will be scrapping this model for future content.
didn’t miss anything, the event was in full swing before the mail arrived then sent me to watch 10-15 secs of a 1 min cut scene that then crashed the client, i was dead before i could often cast a spell and didn’t even know if i was actually attacking a living target or whether it died 1 minute prior.
lag is a mild statement, disaster is a mild way to describe how badly this event went.
one time events…do yourself a favor and just pretend they don’t exist.
It was pretty bad. Imagine alot of crab things. Imagine alot of dying ppl around you. Imagine hitting skills, but you just stand there.
We pushed them back, and prevailed on ET, but it’s a mystery to me how we did it other then Divine Right< RAWR
Anyways, I’m glad I was there. It sucked, but I Was There WOOT!
I didn’t like anything about the opening Event.
As others have said, you didn’t miss much. Although I have to admit, there was a certain kind of amusement to be had from how lagtastic the opening Event was. XD
You didn’t miss anything.
It was a bit disappointing to say the least. I can’t really imagine many enjoyed that event to its fullest extent the way it was executed. So unless you craved for lag, mysterious deaths from largely invisible enemies and the responsiveness of a brick you did not miss out. Which is a shame because under the hood I think they had some interesting ideas which in the end did not play out well due to aforementioned lag. In that sense it must be depressing to see for the designers as well.
It may have worked out better if they split up the events over multiple zones instead of funnelling all players into one zone at a time. That way load gets more distributed the experience more enjoyable for the individual player. In any case they should make sure that enemies get rendered before friendlies. Not being able to see enemies at all is not fun.
When I’m playing WvW I’m really playing LSD.
