Hello everyone,
.
I have finished the event yesterday, but i decided to sleep over it before i posted my opinion.
.
I would like to say that overall i disliked the event.
.
.
Phase 1 – It started fun, looking for items, discovering the right combinations, learning about the Karka.
.
In general was very, very short. Even tough i only had Carnach bugged, a lot of people had every DE bugged.
.
After what happened during Halloween i was expecting ANET to step it up.
.
.
.
Phase 2 – Probably the best of the 3 parts.
.
I stood there with other dozens of players, waiting for something to happen after the catapult was built, nothing happened, no battle, no mobs, we just boarded the boad to the other island.
.
At the island my server had a lot of fun, discovering the new place and doing the DE, this was actually fun.
.
.
.
Phase 3 – What was this?
.
I started at 21:00 and ended at 23:55. Nothing wrong with this.
.
The only things wrong, was the fact mobs would spawn in the middle of the zerg, massive wipes happened, which in terms of lore means we all died, because it was impossible to stay alive, i’m sure no server can say they did not wipe.
.
The reinforcement battle, took way way way too long, 80% of the event was destroying the reinforcements, alot of people quitted during this phase.
.
I still don’t know why these mobs dropped no loot at all, i spent a Magic Find boost, a Karma boost (which didn’t do much because the DE were so long) and food.
.
The rewards chest was a disgrace, i spent 3 hours fighting mobs that dropped no loot, then the chest dropped 3 rares and 2 exotics.
.
The rares were all level 80, the only 2 exotics were level 78… (lol?).
.
I didn’t delete the exotics because it’s a joke, like a souvenir, “remember that time we did xxx and we got 78 exotics?”
.
I did 3 runs in FoTM, took me about 30/35 min each run, i got 5 rares, and 2 exotics, all level 80.
.
Literally i get more out of doing FoTM then 3 hours in this event.
.
.
.
In conclusion, this event was way below my standards, and i’m sure below yours, i wish i could say “i hope you learn from this”, but we all know that ain’t happening.
If anything, you should apologize to the community, for your failure to deliver, hyping these events and not delivering only hurts your image.
.
After this weekend more people will be leaving Guild Wars than joining.
.
.
.
I am used of being dissapointed by you (ANET), you’re like that son, that never finished HS, never got a diploma, it’s always on drugs and being arrested.
.
.
You’re not a gaming company that i support or look up too, i’ve been a massive fan of Guild Wars 1 (until a certain extent).
But with GW2, i have the duty of warning every possible player that asks me if they should buy to stay away from this game.
.
.
.
I’m sorry guys, i’ve never seen a game with so many people complaining and dissapointed, we can’t all be wrong, we can’t…

Buddy please, atleast you were able to complete the event. This thread is truly a first world problem. Think of the countless SEA and Oceanic fans like me who were totally ignored. And why while we still got up early in morning to try and go for it, it kept DC’ing us and finally they pushed the new build to completely wipe it…

What DKNS said. At least you got to play the whole thing to fruition. I only did part of phase 1, due to bugged events. Didn’t do any of phase 2 because, hey – I have real life obligations to tend to. And when I finally got to do phase 3, a new build was available to remove it all together. Then, I posted a thread asking if ANet actually learned anything from the volumes of complaints to have it be deleted in 30 minutes of posting.

Seriously, ANet has burned a bridge with me. Probably won’t matter for them in the immediate, but it seems to be more than just me with whom they’ve burned a bridge with. Their future purchasing decisions would be colored by ANet’s careless actions such as the ones demonstrated with this content release.

So basically, you’re dissatisfied that you were not rewarded enough for participating in a ONE TIME weekend event? Seems like you played for the wrong reasons.

The fact that such a huge reward was included at all is what tarnished the integrity of the experience of the event.

Edit: Furthermore, the event itself was of poor quality.

I agree with you HERO.

The final event was painful for me. The reinforcement phases were really badly designed, did arenanet put a 0 in the wrong place?. Many people went afk (including me). All those phases needed was to have two champion mobs appear for us to kill and then move on. Fighting the same 2 mob types for 30 mins was just abusive.

I felt like I had committed to deep at that point to leave either. Since there was no indication of how long the even would take (30 mins or 4 hours) it felt like a risk to just leave when it could be finished in 5 minutes!

I think this event could have been fun if:

- The first foray into the mountain didn’t happen. (Why was it necessary to go up and down the ramps twice during the evening?)

- The event started with the tree collapsing on the ancient karka.

- The reinforcements were a few champion mobs. Champion mobs drop loot.

- The whole thing would take about 45-60 mins.

I think that would be far better pacing and enjoyable as the phases between the endless mob killing were actually quite fun. I would have gone to bed satisfied rather than just plain tired and frustrated.

My review of the Lost Shores event :

Phase 1, Broke at Noll for the longest time, went to bed.

Phase 2, Noll unbrokenified, went to island. No events happening AT ALL. Sat at waypoints for an hour each. Logged out.

Phase 3, 4am Local time, hooray!

“Warning people off the game” because a one-time event had bugged DEs?

Even though the dungeon & map, which they gave us (though they didn’t have to) were great and worked fine?

Huh? The whole game had bugged DE’s at one point or another. Halloween had bugged events that couldn’t be completed. You’d think after almost 3 months since release and countless hour-long tests, BWE’s etc etc they’d figure out a way to unbreak their DE system.

The zone they put in was a lot larger than I was expecting but I also thought it would basically be like cursed shore almost. A large amount of DE’s to do, more enemies to farm that weren’t risen. When I got there it seemed pretty bland and empty. I liked how big it was but it just felt like beyond the event there was nothing to do with that place.

So bugged DEs in the game in general are the reason to warn people not to play it?

That’s not what the OP suggests. Besides, the vast majority of DEs in the game proper work fine.

South East Asia player here. I paid for the game, I’ve bought my share of gems, I was in bed when it happened because of Real Life Work.

Not buying any more gems or NCSoft products until:
1) they change their approach to designing events so as to acknowledge their own design manifesto’s statements about treating players’ time with respect, and
2) they stop treating everyone on the other side of the Pacific like they bought a second-class ticket.

The reason to warn people not to play this game is cos ANet doesn’t know what their community wants OR needs. Want a better look? Go back 1-2 months on the Ranger forums, then look at it now. JonP has no idea at all what is wrong with the profession, and they have TWO people working on professions. WTF? In a game bought by MILLIONS, you have TWO people working on ALL the professions?? REALLY?

I think you forgot the 20-slot bag and the awesome accessory. Those alone are worth doing the event. With that said I totally disagree with your opinion.

I played in Southsun Cove for awhile. I found Dyanmic Events at about the same rate as Orr and none of the oens I encountered were bugged. Enemies were spaced better, I thought, than Cursed Shore or Malchor’s Leap. I worried a lot less that I would get ganked because I dodged and ended up aggroing 2 other enemies.

The main events had bugs, but I just went off and played the regular game rather than spending too much time on bugged events.

The last event overtaxed either my computer or my server. Perhaps creating instances with, for example, maximum populations of 50 players would have worked better. I left after getting 27-93 second response times for activating a skill because I did not find that terribly fun.

I like the new zone with new enemies and a greater variety of enemies for my “kill variety” daily achievement.

In conclusion, this event was way below my standards, and i’m sure below yours,

I’m not sure what my standards are for unique large scale events, because they are so rare to begin with. The last day was my fav of the 3, fwiw. I’m still at a loss of so many having technical issues and I honestly didn’t have any and was amazed on how well it ran.

Do most of those with bad experiences have dual cores? That would explain it.

The event started around 2pm here, however I was under the assumption that this event would go on all day. I was at a friends house the night before and only when I came home and logged on at 3pm, I found out that it was over.

Go on to the forums and read that they’re looking into doing something about it due to the massive amount of complaints. Then without any formal statement I found out that new overflows with the event are happening. Waste x-amount of hours trying to join the overflow, but they were all full – it got to a point where i thought it was all a hoax.

All in all, this is the worst experience of an MMO event, ever.

In Guild Wars 1.. Wintersday Halloween Cantha New Years and anything else i missed these events repeated every 3 hours for 8 times during a 24 hour clock, so Everyone in All Time zones had a chance to be part of it. Being that this event took 3 hours then go every 4 hours 6 times so in a 24 hour time period all time zones would have been able to do it..

first, love having the new area to explore and play in
second, the event itself considering the numerous bugs, low drop rate, impossible to deal with lag, and laughable rewards for quest completion made almost the entire weekend a waste of my time.

I think the only major problem the entire event had was the reward chest having a slight chance for pre-cursors, obviously ~ I’m willing to bet somewhere code was added that trial accounts had a better chance for them in the ‘hopes’ they would buy the game – I’ve seen it happen in many many times before with trial accounts getting enticing drops so the player might subscribe. Trust me, it happens ~ had it happen to me many times during my past 15 years of playing MMos.

If no pre-cursors was in the chest so everyone more or less roughly got equal loot then I think overall, the forums would be alot less p’d off. Sure, the bugs and problems in general didn’t help but it definitely gave Anet data to work with for future events.
