No time to participate/different time zone [merged]
phase 3 starts this evening and i cant be online,
is there anyway i can still do the event? like tomorrow?
no. I don’t think you will miss much.
As an Oceanic player, i find this pretty sad and disgusting.
How am I supposed to do these “one time only” events when they are ALWAYS attuned for US time zones?
Oh sure, I could wake up… not really, most of us have work on a Monday morning.. can’t exactly skip work now can i?
Please consider turning Sea of Sorrows into an Oceanic-timezoned server, I’m not asking to host servers in Australia but at least set the time zone more attuned for us, this way we can do events during our prime time (7-8pm)
this sucks….
the problem your having is the company is based in PST timezone, and they need to be awake to try to fix bugs that happen. remember its also a new release game, so there still getting used to doing these. I’m sure they will be able to get oceanic events for those servers eventually.
i live in the netherlands, and have the same kind of problem….
Even if you show up they don’t happen. So you really aren’t missing anything.
They’ve scheduled the events based on concurrency peaks, and running those events for different time zones doesn’t seem to be possible either:
We know that this is a topic that’s going to be heavily discussed, and we definitely want as much of your feedback as possible, both positive and negative (so long as it remains constructive and within the guidelines of the rules of conduct). However I would just like to point out that this:
“…fact that it’s the highest concurrence time…”
is contradictory to this:
“why not choose a time where there’s a higher chance for people to choose to attend?”
The reason we chose the times that we did, when concurrency is at its peak, is precisely because it offers us the highest chance for the largest number of people to attend. By definition though, because concurrency rises and falls, that means it’s impossible for us to choose a time that offers us a chance for everyone to attend.
Offering events like this at multiple times for different time zones is certainly worth considering, but given our team’s goals and the timeline we had to operate in (we fielded our team immediately after shipping the Live game), it just wasn’t feasible for us to consider such an option for this particular event.
Having said that, this decision is something that we realized would not make everyone happy. Keep in mind that there is a tremendous lineup of content to choose from during the weekend and after, with both the island and the Fractals dungeon remaining active, and we will continue to listen to both criticisms and compliments about these special events in order to continually improve your playing experience.
So you’re saying that you want all the events to start on YOUR time? Wouldn’t that mean the people in America would have the same problem that you have right now?
@ sarcazar, you are right about that, thats why they should have worlds for continents, like worlds for europe only, worlds for australia only, and then events based on their time.
Belive me you didn’t lost anything. The One Time events was hugely Lagged, with delays, invisible NPCs/Players…..
Unless ANet remake the way of do this events, or at least make the game and players handle it fine to be playable… I wont keep going to them.
Asura thing.

Read his post.
He said sea of sorrows, which is a mostly oceanic server.
I’m honestly really pissed off right now, because there’s a one-time event going on and i can’t be there.
Now I’ll never be able to do it, and I’m REALLY mad about it.
Well there’s plenty of us in that situation. People work and have family comitments
Exactly, so why would anet make anything one-time like this?
Because they want the events to feel like real things that change Tyria forever, and making them repeatable rather ruins that feeling. If you wanted to go to Times Square on New Year’s Eve to see the ball drop, they’re not going to redo it after because you couldn’t make it.
Don’t feel bad, OP. The event is virtually unplayable anyway. Invisible enemies, invisible AoE, lag. Can’t even load into a zone.

You’re missing nothing. After dying for the third time, spending 5+ minutes just RUNNING BACK to where I was, I said screw it and gave up on the event all together, as did others.
Even without the massive culling issue which is still there, the enemies themselves in the event are way overpowered and the fight takes place at the furthest possible point from any waypoints.

You’re not missing much.
Entire zergs being wiped because no one has a clue what to do, broken up with lag freezes and disconnects. It’s SO much fun!
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”

Can you think of an event that would have a bigger effect on the world than the killing of an Eldar Dragon ?
Because they let us repeat that.
You aren’t missing out.

That’s part of your personal story, that’s an entirely different matter.
It’s a good thing. No man should have to be put through this kind of torture more than once.
I can make the first part of it, and i don’t know why you guys aren’t, but I am having a lot of fun, and am still amd that I’m going to miss the last parts of it.
Lol ya . Really not to much to say.
You aren’t missing anything. Trust me. Everything was bugged in the first two phases (not sure if they are still bugged because I gave up). The island is just a bunch of mindless people killing the same NPCs over and over again for no reason. The only reward you get, is a giant repair bill. There’s no communication between players and ArenaNet (everyone is confused).
Most people in game are just upset, confused and frustrated. Its not fun and its not worth your time.
A who,e island full of the same enemy with far more hps than any other lvl80 that you’ve faced is not fun…then they heal up. Add in lag, invisible players, invisible enemies, ect and you get a very boring event.
Because they want the events to feel like real things that change Tyria forever, and making them repeatable rather ruins that feeling. If you wanted to go to Times Square on New Year’s Eve to see the ball drop, they’re not going to redo it after because you couldn’t make it.

It’s still an event that should have a much larger effect on the world than anything ANET has done in a one time event. It’s still an event that takes place in the game lore.
So making it repeatable with no major effects, while not allowing smaller events to repeat doesn’t make any sense.
If you want to make the world feel alive, you need one where the developers focused on the day to day events of the world and make it feel like there is stuff happening there at first glance (fortunately ANET did do this with DEs). Don’t do that and the one time events just change the world from one static state to another.
Static worlds are just one of the limitations of the them park model of game design. If you want to make the world truly feel alive, then it needs to actually be alive. Which means a sandbox model with plenty of room for emergent behavior from players.
For example Eve Online feels much more alive than anything I’ve seen in a theme park game. So alive that I’m still paying attention to what happens there even though I haven’t played in years, because interesting things keep happening.

No, it’s part of a dungeon. Which you are expected to grind repeatedly to get the armor from.
If you did either of the previous two events, you’ll be fine. Even if you didn’t, you’ll be fine. I’m glad they implemented a new dungeon type, but it really isn’t related to any of the events.
Summary of the events: Kill karka, and then kill karka, and then kill karka. If you still wish to continue to kill karka, I will assume they will remain the main enemy in the area when the events are done. There are three sizes of karka (four if you include the fetal karka) to kill, and their toughness is equivalent to their size.
Because they want the events to feel like real things that change Tyria forever, and making them repeatable rather ruins that feeling. If you wanted to go to Times Square on New Year’s Eve to see the ball drop, they’re not going to redo it after because you couldn’t make it.

Grinding the story mode doesn’t give you any tokens, meaning no progress to your armor. To get armor you grind explorable, which takes place after Zaitan died.
But even the explorable modes have you repeating events that should really only happen once.

Its a pretty crap event. 2hrs of lag and spamming auto attack for 17k xp, 300 karma and 1 silver so far

1 time event yet NPCs are bugged so you cannot progress……GG
This event is taking forever and I am not having fun, and neither is anyone else. I like the new content but the events are stupid. just focus on an expansion pack
I have a better idea. No more non-holiday events period. This was such a complete failure from start to finish I don’t think they could have been more disappointing if they tried.
Just release the stupid content and be done with it. This was a disaster to rank among the top disastrous launches in all of MMOdom up there with Anarchy Online and WWII Online.
Look on the brightside Anubis, if you manage to hang in there you’re supposedly guaranteed exotics and a precursor or something… Gives you a higher chance of getting them than the people who can’t play (like me). :P

that’s joke did the event to reach last part just to get kick from sever to reconnet and get nothing was on at start to so like what am gonna do now
As this event kicked off at 9.00am monday morning Kiwi time i missed out on the chance to take part due to having to be at work. I enjoyed Phase 1 and 2 and was very dissapointed to miss phase 3. could please take the time to look at one off events only spanning 2 day so us antipodeans can follow the whole event chain through and not miss the chance to fight for rare and exciting goodies.
I had a similar problem in Australia, the event started when I was asleep and finished as I was getting ready for work, didn’t have the time to participate, pretty disappointed in the nature of one time events as they screw over those that aren’t in the required time-zone and those that don’t want to sacrifice RL commitments for a game.
I am anti-censorship, for it doesn’t make sense to pander to a minority.
Indeed, Australians had this event going on at ~3-6AM on a Monday morning.
I was under the impression they were going to avoid once off, “must attend” events
I feel sorry for all the non-EU/US time zones that missed out on this. I was lucky enough to have a day off (RDO) today and spent 3 hours in the event from start to finish. I can only suggest that next time ANet schedule the finale for a Saturday Evening instead of a Sunday. Saturday evening PST will cover a global weekend, with +GMT being Sunday Morning and -GMT being Saturday Morning. This would keep everybody happy.
Here’s to hoping that would be the case but for large chain events, that may be difficult to fit in – EU/US players wouldn’t want to miss the opening events if they started on Thursday either.

It’s not hard to work it out. Instead of only having a weekend event, start it on the previous Saturday evening, go for the whole week and finish on the following Saturday evening. This means anyone that doesn’t work on the weekend has a good chance to participate.
I agree. I had the weekend off and spent quite a bit of time doing all the quests for the first two phases, just to have my lunch break come monday and miss out on the entire third phase, which I hear is a one time event only. That is pretty unfair for all the players that have other commitments.
What are you going to do about this Arenanet? You have been fantastic so far, very disappointed by this..
Cheers
ANet must cater to those that don’t have a life or a job…
I do sympathize with this. I just quit my job…so I have lots (too much) free time and am able to make all these events. But my boyfriend works so he has missed every single GW2 event that has happened so far (including Halloween stuff). Kind of sucks to do all this by myself and see people miss out.
Honestly though, I’d rather be employed than do this event again.

I have a job. But as the smart person I am, I requested OFF the day they posted what time it was going to happen. In all honestly, you can’t please everyone. I had to miss phase 1 and 2 Friday and Saturday becuase of work. You don’t see me constantly complaining about it on the forums.
melpomene, i only have 1 thing to say to that… and its really quite simple… i would rather have my job and not take a day off, even more so because im still a new employee, than risk it for a game… good to see you obviously have your priorities in check though.
ANet don’t care about their gaming community outside of the US. That’s pretty obvious. The timing of events and making them 1 off isolates the rest of us. I’d love to see (but will never) a 1 off event with rewards of like value put on a Friday night, peak NZ/Aus time and see how many people get annoyed with that.

A lot of people can’t just request a day off that easily. If it was mentioned a month in advance, then yeah. At my work, they get the month’s schedule out by the end of the previous month. You have until the middle of the month to request a day off. Unless it’s a valid emergency.
I was fine missing the event since I thought it was going to be like the previous Halloween event. You just get exp and karma for participating and some good but not so awesome loot.
Today, I was a little upset after I found out I could have gotten a precursor or something that’s worth a lot of gold or something that’s a big improvement on my gear.
All 1 time event does is drama and a lot of negativity. I for one hope that they never do it again on future events.
