Yeah was too busy making my paycheck fatter and after reading about this final event, I think the RL job was more worth it than the chest you could have gotten after being lucky enough to win the non disconnect lottery in a video game. I am just gonna wait for the christmas event line and cross fingers for Kodan playable race since a new race would probably be the best move after half the let downs of these two events as well as class fixes that have ticked everyone off as read in forums. But agreed that one time events = too much negativity and kittening. But gotta have something for jobless people to look forward to on an online video game.

So let’s complain, complain, complain and complain some more to the point where these events just won’t happen anymore.

And @troy, don’t attack my “priorities”. They are in check. I’m a full time college students with a part time job.

I’m sick of these peopel thinking they are so entitled. You missed and event, you missed it. I didn’t get a precursor. Oh well. It’s done, move on.

These one time events are really starting to turn me off from the game. Not all of us are kids that dont have to have a job and even then some of them miss it cause of school.
Then of course there is the whole timezone issue it is just so stupid. What the point of playing the game if i am just going to have to miss all of the new stuff since i have a life and cant plan it around a video game

Troy if we have to take your situation into affect and everyone’s, there would be nothing. There would be no ideal time, ever. So do we live with the adage, “it only takes one to ruin it for the rest of us?”.

mel, then please dont attack me by saying “but as the smart person i am” like it was my fault for going to work and making money to be able to survive… that, in my mind is opening the door for me to point out why i cannot do what “smart people” do… i never said i was entitled by the way, i was just saying i was upset about the events, that i still like the game (so far…) and that i hope this kind of thing doesnt happen again. so please, stop coming back to this thread, you have said your piece, and to avoid more conflict i suggest you go to a seperate thread with all the other lucky ones who are saying there is nothing wrong with what happened. cause no one is really on the fence about this. you were either lucky and got awesome loot, or you got the kitten end of the stick and couldnt do it, or your game crapped out.

As the title says.

Have events run twice, preferably more, two or three hours apart. Allow players to get rewards only once.

The reasons are simple and threefold:

1. To distribute the load over two separate time frames instead of having everyone logging on at the exact same time, bringing the servers to their knees.
2. To allow players who are busy during one time a chance to participate.
3. To allow players who are disconnected at the last few moments a second chance to get their rewards.

What say you?

Where do people get all these girlfriends who play mmos? Will you swap for my normal gf?

That’s pretty much the idea, yes.

I would like to agree with this, but it wouldn’t solve half of the problem. There would still have been just as many people doing it the first time around because everyone is always in a rush to experience new content. So while it would have given others a chance to participate if they missed out, you would still probably get a ton of people re-doing it just for the sake of it, even if they couldn’t get rewards again.

horror, im just asking that 1 time events arent “one time events” because for a while i was thinking it was a really good idea and it would make doign the event more fun and feel like less of a grind. but then you have to take into account that not everyone playing this game is in america, and they could be staying up till 5 in the morning to play a 3 hour event just to get kicked off of it at the very end. dont you think it would be alot better if “well this event is fun, but it would be better if i can do it later, because right now is not a very good time for me.”
saying “its not or never” does not make me want to play this game.
we play video games to take stress out of our lives and to have fun.. not to be told “its this way or no way and your our puppets” like we are by our bosses in the real world.

If it was so important, you should have requested the day off like every other responsible adult in this game. You’re an employee, not a slave. If you weren’t mature enough to think that far ahead, then this is your problem and not Anet’s.

drainheart, haha thats pretty awesome. my fiance plays with me because were a long distance relationship 80% of the time. she only gets to stay with me for a bit every year. so instead of being able to go to the movies or whatever for a date, we play MMO’s and we have at least 1 character each that we level together and dont play unless the other is on. but now since she is here, we play the game together in the same room. so MMO’s is really helping hold our relationship together. thats why its so upsetting to see things like this happen, when it only makes me upet with the game. =/

There are many people who were unable to participate, and were not able to be on in the small time frame window for the last phase. I have followed this game for 5 years, and very excited about it, but it frustrates me to know that because of work, i am unable to experience the last phase of the event.

It would not be difficult to make the chest a single loot event, preventing people from farming it for gear. This would allow it to be run a few times over the course of the day, allowing more people to experience the fight.

Mine is the same issue, but with college. Still, got gipped out of the reward after two hours of participation.

Seriously these one time events are such a terrible idea in an MMO that it’s not even funny, ArenaNet should know that one of the goals of any event is to get it out to as many players as possible so that they can enjoy it and hopefully enjoy it and stay excited about the game. However there is nothing worse than logging in and being provided with a mail that tells you to go take part in the epic end of this event and then find out that because you had considerations in your life other than this game that you are out of luck because you missed that one 2-hour time frame in which this was running. It’s like ArenaNet telling you that if you don’t dedicate your life to their time frame to be on when they want you on you are going to miss out, and they’re okay with that.

That is not the mentality a MMO Dev should have and frankly it’s completely at odds with the manifesto (which expect means less than nothing now) that so many were sold on this game by.

lol @ thinking taking a day off work for a game counts as a legitimate and responsible reason to get off work.

harder lol at thinking every boss will allow you a day off anyway. If you work in retail at this time, you’re probably being asked not to take any days off work since it’s close to christmas prep. (I know – I’ve been there)

This entire event boils down to the phrase “you can’t please everybody.” I like the one-time events, because they provide a sense of permanence. If all this happened again, it wouldn’t feel like we did anything.

Sure, there’s a balance they have to work out. They can’t make the rewards too great. People will complain about that. There are those who will be completely unable to join in. People will complain about that.

People will ALWAYS complain, so they can’t just base their decisions on that. I think a LOT of people were satisfied with this event (but we won’t know, because those aren’t the people who will say something about it, now are they?)

It’s not that easy. Maybe if you’re part time, yeah. But if it’s your career on the line, there are rules you have to comply to. If they gave us the heads up 1 month or so, then yeah, it’s easily possible for most.

Well, judging by the times they chose for these events, they’re catering towards Neets.

actualy andred, people are posting all sorts of things showing the loot they got and bragging. and your right that if they at least made it fair it wouldnt be bad.
maybe not giving loot, just a title or a way of showing you did it? rather than giving you 500G worth of loot….

There seems to be a lot of disappointment related to the one time nature of the Lost Shores event, but I haven’t seen this aspect discussed unless it is buried somewhere. GW2 is sold as a global game, WvW is a 24-hour affair, but one-time events completely fail to cater for people outside a certain time windows. Sunday 12pm PST is 9am Monday morning for me, meaning I had no opportunity to even participate.

If you are going to sell a game to a global audience, tune events so all players get to have a fair chance to do them please.

Maybe an idea would be to get Asian/oceanic severs that we can play on and have events timed to roll out on our weekends. Even if we are just stress testing it for the NA/EU luanch lol

Would be nice if they cycled the timezones of these one-time events, like next time cater to… I dunno, Singapore time maybe – which is still awkward for me. But hey, give other people the chance to get precursors too right?

Heh – missed this thread and started my own. I find it ludicrous that GW2 is sold as a global game but events like this do not cater to a global audience. Really, I can’t even figure what they were thinking – oh kitten we forgot about the rest of the world guys!

There is a simple solution: Repeat the event every three hours. Why three hours ?

Because that’s what GW1 did.

I have a job. But as the smart person I am, I requested OFF the day they posted what time it was going to happen. In all honestly, you can’t please everyone. I had to miss phase 1 and 2 Friday and Saturday becuase of work. You don’t see me constantly complaining about it on the forums.

I am a cop I cannot just request time off at a moments notice, neither can any firefighters, EMS, or other IMPORTANT jobs. Sure you missed phase 1 and phase 2, but you didn’t miss the chance to get the actual ONLY good thing about this whole event, the loot at the end.

The mechanics are already in the game so that people can only loot chests from dragons 1 time per 24 hours, Anet and all their supposed MMO knowledge couldn;t put this in place for this event as well?

So really heart goes out to those that missed the one good event out of this lack luster weekend.

Honestly, I was sad I had to work and miss the vent (I work every Sunday.) Then I get home and find out Gear was given out, and I went from sad to pretty Peeved. I’d like to demand they give EVERYONE gear because giving gear for 1 time events and not cosmetics or titles is Bad and who ever’s Idea that was should be smacked on the head… But I know it won’t happen and pretty much us weekend working class just got screwed and this will most likely be a trend.

Anet, I’ve payed the same amount of money for the game (well, more actually, because I’m in EU region technically) as everybody else, yet I was not given a chance to participate in the final event because it had started at 4am local time and finished long time before I got up.

Can you repeat the event? Do you know what differentiates MMO from a single-player game? Do you know there are people outside the US? Do you have any sane designers and/or executives? Do you care about your customers at all? Are you ashamed of the garbage you’ve produced?

Code your kitteno everyone can participate.

For what it’s worth I think the real world was a slightly better place because you were at work (regardless of what you did) instead of in game. People keep forgetting that real life should trump your virtual one each time. Still can’t fix your grievances with the game though. Sorry.

At least three more because I will be gone too, I’m sure many others that are pretty peeved they missed it. and then missed out on gear.

ok so i am now even more upset reading that there was a chance to get a Pre legendary weapon .

I know it won’t make you feel better, but if I had it to do again, I’d gladly put in some overtime instead of dealing with this event. In fact, if I had it to do again, I wouldn’t have even logged in today and just spent the afternoon fully enjoying the Bengals game.

Why do these events ALWAYS happen like this.

Why not make it so we can play on Sunday, and the Americans play on Saturday. That seems to be the most considerate option.

Umm… my brother is overseas right now and in a place where he has no internet. Thus he missed the event. Not everybody can make every single event. Christmas will also likely have limited time events. I might miss those as I have some travel scheduled for that time. So I will most likely miss some one time events. It happens, no need to get so worked-up about it.

It’s a one time event, you will never reach 100% of the populace, so what do you do? Never have big server wide events? Laggy and buggy as they may be I’d rather not eliminate them, if you were that desperate to make it call in sick.

Next subject for QQ: a couple players got precursors and I didn’t why ANet are evil (hoping others enjoy loling at the QQ as much as me)

Seriously, I suggest everyone affected by the timezone issue should write to Anet to complain. Putting it on a forum is too easy for them to ignore.

It’s more of the fact they give the impression they’re oblivious to any other counties outside their own to take into consideration of event timing

What is even more irritating is the rewards (exo, rare chance, 20 slot box and karka acccessory) they placed at the end of the one time event. Not only asia/oceanics mostly can’t attend we also get screwed out of any chance of the nice drops. Since the ANet team have decided concurrency is their favourite method to decide event timings we are out of luck from this point forward unless something changes.

That said I DID get up early to do the event and due to the D/C lag issues I got screwed anyway, par of the course so far.

Look. I live in the North Island of NZ.
While I appreciate the new zone, I love the new dungeon, I don’t like the fact that those outside of the continental US must adhere to their times. They ran on californian time, which is 8am NZ time for a kick off. Finishing this at 8am on Monday is not cool. I personally did not enjoy any point of this event except for the dungeon and maybe some events in the new zone. The first phase on the first day bugged out at Noll, so I had to wait until they decided they would go in and fix it before I could continue.

I feel that as a customer of A-Net, having paid good money, it should be planned to take in to account that perhaps not everyone playing this game is actually American. On that note, I know of another american MMO that does world events however, bosses are in exclusive areas which are accessible at any time during the events to get the kill for the progression of it. The events run for a week and bugs are fixed promptly.

This event, after all of the hype, was disappointing to say the least.
However, still thankful for the dungeon/zone, I guess.

Write to them and complain. Anet made a conscious decision to time this event knowing that it would not be available to many of their paying customers. Completely astounding.

Well i also wanted to kitten about how some people work in Sundays, but lucky when i logged around 11 GMT one of my guildies was still on overflow that have event ongoing.
So being over 3 hours late for event i still managed to do it, but thanks to my guild and not too short time frame

Well i understand that some events have timelimit, but this time frame was really short. If there was at least 14 hour frame or so, a lot more people could do it. For people who would do event a second or more times reward would be reduced. It’s not like doing it only once prevented some people to do this event two or more times. And they got a full rewards.
