What is the problem if more important real-life situations took precedence over this one time event? I missed most of the Halloween event just because of that. But I don’t care because real-life is more important.
Would you say… Repeat the Superbowl, I didn’t like the outcome. Repeat the Worlds Fair, I was too young to remember most of it. Repeat the guild event, I was out bowling. The event was announced a long time ago and was specific about times. This game is supposed to be dynamic and not like all the others. There will be more events. I know I won’t make them all but I won’t expect to either. I already missed most of the Halloween event due to work, but I wouldn’t expect them to reset it because I had more important things to do. It’s also not a pay to play so you have to keep that in mind too. Just sayin
I can say one thing about this event. It turned the forums into something like Bliz forums real quick. And I was actually using them too. Oh well, I’m off to watch a movie with my Wife and enjoy real life for a bit. Have fun peeps and get some air.
As a side note I logged off during the event to feed my 2 month old. I logged back in when she was on my chest asleep and luckily I got back in and played til the end. Had I missed it… oh well, baby has to eat.
I could care less if I miss something in game.. I rather hug my wife and kids, throw the ball with the dog or yell at my neighbor for random stuff (he is a funny dude)….
Never once , as an adult, do I care for TWO seconds about GW2 and if I missing something here..
It is fun to play.. My daughter and I have fun knocking out hearts and doing the new dungeon..
The people that think this game matters though…. They need a sanity check..
I have to agree with this. Real life is much more important than a game. If you had to go to work, or hang out with friends well thats life. A one-time event is just that it only happens once. Maybe my friend who missed his daughter’s birth because he was deployed should complain because real life got in the way.
We all know why the events you list won’t be repeated: They are too expensive to run again.

Because it was an event that changed the game’s world by opening up a new part of the map. Wouldn’t make sense to keep repeating it. Anet wanted to make a one time dynamic event to introduce a new zone, and used this weekend to do so. People have known about it for weeks now. If real life got in the way, oh well, it’s just a game.
Yeah they specifically told us that we don’t want to miss this one in the last phase. It was 5am Monday in Japan but it is worth waking up that early for this one. You always have to sacrifice something for anything else, you can’t just have both. I gave up my nice sleeping time and took this event. It was a gamble though, and it might have turned up to be “Oh I should have just slept and ignored it”.

Idk where I said otherwise. Do you pay to watch the Superbowl at home ? No. Did you pay $ to play a working game ? Yes.

Because ANET should have known that a large portion of GW2 players would have been unable to attend. Thus writing a one time only event is a stupid idea, because there is no possible way to do it that doesn’t divide the community into the people that can attend and the people that can’t.
Then, to make things worse, they added a significant reward. Since we all paid the same amount for GW2, lets use slot machines as an analogy:
A one time event with a reward is similar to a slot machine that takes the money, lets you pull the leaver, then analyses the person who pulled the leave. Then, based on some aspect of the person that can’t be changed it decides if it should take a spin or throw up a sign telling them they aren’t allowed to play this machine. Also, no rewards.
Anyone defending one time event rewards is the equivalent of someone, other than a lawyer, trying to tell the police and courts that the slot machine owner shouldn’t be prosecuted under gambling laws.

You payed money for what you signed up for. An MMORPG to play. You didn’t pay for the dynamic events, that’s just an extra that arenanet is giving you. They don’t have to add this stuff, they do it to make their fans happy. But some people are just impossible to please, I hope arenanet gets this.

Guess everyone has a different impression of what makes people happy.
That’s because people want something for nothing. The other folks who have a legitimate gripe, i.e. were participating in the event but got dc’d are going to receive something hopefully.
significant reward? I did not get anything significant. The only thing I could use was the 20 slot chest. Besides that nothing I can use or if I sold on TP I would maybe get 1 gold. Some others got lucky. For those that played and was DC’d then ANet should figure out something.
Umm… they can just say no and everybody will just have to accept it. Life works that way. So either choose to move on and play a GAME or choose to spend precious time writing about how upset you are on this games forum. Either way it should never matter if real life events got in the way of digital events supposing real life was more important to you. If it isn’t then I would say those issues go way beyond the scope of this forum and can’t be worked out here. Get some fresh air for a while.
OP is forgetting that not everyone has a job and wife/family and much of the player base are still kids and teenagers who don’t have much else to prioritize over. Just because you have greater priorities doesn’t mean everyone else has the same. And no i’m not one of the ones that missed out. Just pointing out a flaw in your reasoning.

LOL. You dont need to tell ME that. After about an hour of QQing when the first event ended, I want to spend some time with my real life brother and his chruch friends playing COD2 black ops. After that wasdone I came back to here and soon after an hour, I discover that some server have the event running. Right back to QQing again.
I’m amazed at the posts still going. Now there is one to completely stop one time events? I sign NO NO NO 100% of the time. This game is unique because of things like this. I just can’t understand the reasoning. Mind blown.
Sorry but Real Life is much less important than a MMO that you might not be playing in a few months/years.
If not, how do you explain all the excuses people find to miss work, do not pick wife/kids, cancel appointments and pretend to be sick just to be ready for a game event?!?!?!?

I think only that those who played the event, spending 2~4 hours in the game instead of doing something else they wanted, and got kicked in the end even after being there all the time were entitled to the same rewards. Now, let’s talk about people that logged right at the end, done so much less and got rewards? Are we going to demand they have their rewards stripped from them? That would be fairness, in it’s full, i think. Not applicable.
The event wasn’t even much fun, because of technical problems and being so long and grindy. The concept was cool, the once-a-time thing (but maybe an event with such impact as a new race appearing could have been dragged for more time and story could be more detailed before the climax), but the execution felt short at the later stages. It was fun being part of something that big until the monsterlag started.
It would have paid off if we hadn’t lost the rewards just because a five minutes dc. I even think people would be whinning less about being bored if they had gotten their rewards.
