Southsun Cove...boring
I think the problem is that the zone appears to lack the density of Cursed Shore… everything is spread out so players do not congregate (except at the bottom of the jumping puzzle!).
It’s an area that has the exact same DE as the rest of the game against an enemy that, due to the lack of lore about them, gives players no motivation to fight. Combined with the sub-orr drops, it’s no surprise that it’s boring. The JP is the only reason to go there.
The Lost Shores should have stayed lost.
A whole map for a Jumping Puzzle….seems like a lot of effort for very little…must be an awesome puzzle (I looked at it but you can only do so many jumping puzzles before its gets really boring).
Eh, my first time there is was incredibely enjoyable (right after it opened on my overflow). The issue is, I think, that it won’t be useful to 80s for grinding in any way. In the long run, it will just be another map visited and then forgotten as well go back to farming Orr or Frostgorge.
If they beef up rewards though, that’d be great.

I’m relatively confident that it’ll change after the event is over and there’s no longer any sidekicking to 80 in the zone.
I just hope this is just gonna be the way it is now just for the weekend thing. I hope the place changes to make it worth farmable after the weekend. As of now the place is more painful then fun. It is loaded with vet and champ mobs, has basic mobs that melt through your armor fast, and pulls you down that drop nothing.
Kinda like how the cursed shore risen are already. TBO it is a painful place but atleast the risen are farmable. Why would I go through the headache of the Karka places, when I can get that headache from cursed shore risen instead. Heck, atleast the risen you can 1v1 them to a certain extent and get somekind of drop off them eventhough it is mostly vendor trash.
I was getting bored with this game and really hoped this would be an entertaining addition, but it doesn’t give me anymore reason to log in and play. I’ll come back in a few months and hopefully that will change. I would have been happier to see events fixed instead of logging in to do Arah only to see it bugged almost every time I have the time to play it.. At least Darkfall is set to come out next month.
Have to admit I find the new addition almost pointless.
Don’t get me wrong, the effort and art put into it are great and I enjoyed running through it..for 30 minutes. Then I was done and I couldn’t care less what happens next unless there is some big secret being activated tonight.
agree. group of us took down a champion yesterday – and of course we did it twice because these guys reset to full health on their first death… most the ppl got no drops, my lvl 80 necro got a worthless blue. 1) I thought anet said they were improving drops, especially for vet and champ? 2) a meh blue not worth anything after a 5 min or so fight… if thats all these guys will drop no point in fighting them
I was hoping for an alternative spot for farming cause I’m so bored of Cursed Shore. I dislike the scenery and the undead too…
Now I love the new scenario, it’s a lot more colorful, and I like the mobs too but… It seems impossible to farm in this map! Few events very far away… Veteran mobs drop junk (I got a lot of green items with my MF armor in Orr)… Even no skill points or vistas around. Gathering? I thought there were cool new resources but I kept finding only mithril… I had to run the entire map for 2 orichalcum rocks, and you don’t need karka shells if you don’t have to craft apothecary items.
It seems an empty place although it’s a nice scenary.
Maybe you have to put a new Champion of the Dragons to spawn there every 3 hours or so, so people could come hoping to drop a legendary precursor at least…

It is okay for a change of scenery. The weird thing for me the young Karka’s drop loot way more than the vets.I got one copper from a champ Karka lol.
I imagine it was just made to showcase the supposedly amazing event tonight. I’m sure if they wanted to make a zone that’s useful (like orr, with all the events) they could have but that’s probably not what they want to do yet, instead they added an apparently good dungeon.
ALL KARKA REGEN HEALTH THE SECOND TIME AROUND. Do to the first healh bar is their shell, then the second is without the shell. It was explained va’gely by the devs.
I do agree the Karka barely drop anything at all if they do even drop something and most do not drop anything.
This could be do to the guessting. ANet does not want level 5’s going in and getting great drops. It might have something do to balance. We just have to HOPE the loot table gets changed drasticly after the event is done. If not people will keep on farmming Orr Risen instead = no point of this new creature race and or map area.
they should add an event where players escort Owain back to the ships in the north, so she can go home. poor gal needs a new life, away from eggs.
Did a champ…. Got nothing.
Really, what’s the point. So far this weekend event has given me nothing in loot that’s event worthy.
For the change of scenery? The map is ok. Not great, but ok.
However, where are the vistas? (Guess they didn’t have the staff needed to add some vistas to the map).
Why are the drops so absolutely horrible?
Why were the “new crafting mats” so hyped, only to have them be so few and far between, with no recipes in sight? (I’m hoping post even this will all come together, but it’s just one more element of the event/content that they completely flubbed up on with the lack of proper communication).
I agree with others. This needs to be a level 80 zone worth farming, or it will be a pointless addition to the game.
I found it fun when it first opened and there was a massive zerg pushing through the island with Inspector Ellen Kiel, but after the chain finished, it became quite boring.
I just want some more places like orr. I enjoy farming with my buds on vent.
Please A-net, just give us a few good chains to farm, and let us who enjoy that aspect
of the game be happy. Don’t nerf Orr, just add more great farming spot’s in the new map.
Speaking for myself, from what I’ve seen yesterday, I will never care to go to that zone
after this last event today.
Seems fine to me. The scenery is amazing (a few vistas to get a nice look would be good, though), the events seem alright though I think some of them will be changing after the event anyway.
The loot does seem very lackluster, though, I get better loot from the Shelks (that is, the Ridgeback Shelks which are found in other areas, not the new Reef Shelks) than the Karka or Reef enemies, which seem to drop very little. Have yet to get even a single Karka Shell material yet.
Just a quick note re crafting mats and recipes, there ARE recipes in game, check the lists of what you can make, they got added directly rather than via a purchasable/dropped item. For example, artificer got apothecary’s inscriptions which use karka shells.
Looking at the crystal clear blue water, would be a nice place to fish.
the drops might be bad now just because of the amount of players in the map. it will settle once the event is over. all this complaining. you did not pay for this adition. be happy you get something for free.
When the Halloween event was active, I went and farmed with the zerg running around the labyrinth. I’d have to stop after about twenty minutes, though, because of full bags. Given that all of my characters were well below level 80, it was no surprise that I was not getting level 80 drops. Still, bags would be full quickly, and even selling the junk and blue/white weapons made the whole thing profitable.
I’ve been running around Southsun Cove for a while. Both with a zerg group and out on my own. Neither case gave me drops that would even cover waypoint costs. Much less any armor repair from deaths. So farming in Southsun is an expense rather than a source of income. OK, so I guess that’s out.
I tried doing events. There was the initial taking of the island, securing points, building a bridge. Then… nothing? One gathering event for golem parts. One gathering event for Consortium supplies. And occasionally one of the outposts needs to be defended/retaken. And finding these events is difficult because they’re so few and far between. So obviously that’s not profitable.
In short, the way it is now I have little reason to go revisit the area. Exploring on my own is painfully slow — I can’t just plow through the huge quantities of veterans and champions. Even the young karka do a lot of damage (and I saw many many players defeated with only two or three of the “normal” young karka around). I’ll certainly revisit for the final event… but after that I don’t plan to ever return. Even though the scenery is some of the most beautiful I’ve seen in game.
I think they will/should add more events and increase the drops rates after the weekend event. It’s a nice concept with a beautiful zone that’s colourful and fresh, however as many of you mentioned it lacks a certain “ingredient”. If they could pump up this zone (increased drop rates, more events and even some skill points and some vistas) to give it some zest it could be an amazing zone for low level characters to look forward to and an alternative for level 80’s, which I really hope they do so we have an option to play in this new zone, or dark, depressing, decomposing Orr.
