Stop saying you don't want more free content.
I never started.
No one is complaining about free content, people are complaining about content that is biased towards a time zone. If it was a cool fight and a cut scene that was breath taking, with a few exotics(named, not precursors) then I could cut my loses and watch it via youtube and marvel in the experience without being there. The difference is people got precursors(which to an extent doesn’t matter because now they will deflate) but they got them nontheless and things that aren’t even in the game any more. I like fair content, not content that excludes people from other countries.
I applaud their efforts. I really do.
I applaud the free content they still grant us, until the day comes a true expansion hits the shelves.
I just do not applaud their inability to see sense when thousands of people are pointing at it for them. Time and again, the servers have shown to be a weak spot to events such as these. The beta. The stress tests. The headstart weekend. The official release day. Dungeons’ first openings. Halloween’s dungeon implementation.
And yet, they keep going there, trying to do what is evidently impossible.
The dungeon. The map. I’m eager to explore them, as I was unable to do so until now – again, the servers were unstable and I do not like pug’ing with overflow people as it feels so distant.
But an event like this. Again? An event that is marked forever by trolls who wave their expensive loot about, who have NO idea what lore they just skipped past, who don’t care what the monsters were like, what great sceneries they ploughed past… what effort has gone to waste in building all that, because they were too short-sighted to appreciate it…
I’ll pass on that. This was a grand experiment I suppose, and it got out of hand. Servers crashed. Loot was far too valuable for a one-time thing, giving unfair advantages to those fortunate enough to be available and remain unscathed by the crashes.
I hope they see sense and try something different next time. So long as they keep trying: that I can do nothing but agree with, Majik.
The guy saying cancel Wintersday is trolling, he was calling out the complaining.
What -I- am mad about is that I paid a lot of money for this game ($200 AUD collectors) yet am not considered in these 1 time events. Time zones exist.
And then when we find a way around this problem, with the community banding together to help each other out by opening up overflows, they push a new build when we reach the boss fight. Now if they’d pushed it BEFORE I’d tried, I wouldn’t have wasted 2-2.5 hours of my life. However they pushed it just before we killed him. Before you say they offered compensation, we have no confirmation this includes those who were dropped from the overflow since they weren’t really official events.
I have never been so proud of this community while so disappointed in a company I’ve never, ever had a problem with. I don’t want this game to lose players but it seems like it’s inevitable.
I didn’t even realize that was a “thing”. Pretty sure anyone who said that is just overreacting.
I think the big thing here is that this is an open forum for an MMO. Which means this is going to be the most disgusting of disgusting of chat rooms. People WILL act immature, simply to act immature. That same person who said “I don’t want Wintersday” will be the first one to complain that it isn’t there.
That being said, I think ANet did just fine with the event. I think a bit of a heads up could have been in place since it was “scheduled maintenance”. No reason the schedule couldn’t have been told to the players, so I wouldn’t have rushed the quest after getting home from a long weekend just to get booted in the middle of the boss.
It was a good event. Just needs some communication, I think.
