I just wanted to say that I have so far enjoyed the Lost Shores event, bugs and all. I appreciate all the work that ArenaNet has put into the update, despite the bugs. Bear in mind people, that this game is less than two months old. There is not now nor has there ever been an MMO this young that did not have it’s share of issues. Also bear in mind that the developers are only human, it’s not going to be perfect every time. Those citing Guild Wars 1 and WoW forget that in their early days they had loads of bugs too. Heck GW1 still does from certain content updates. So would the vocal minority please stop being so negative and just enjoy the game? Thank you ArenaNet!!!!!

Agreed, even with all the bugs/lag it was still a pretty awesome idea and event.
I really love the Karka(especially the babies!), and the new zone is very aesthetically pleasing and quite cool.
People really need to just stop complaining and calm down, enjoy the event(even with the problems) and enjoy those nice new beaches.
Thanks Anet for a neat event.

I believe OP and Zalani work for ANet.. Bugs aside, they introduce a new zone that is deadly to anyone not is a zone, add new items that can only be aquired via a random drop rate in a chest bought with real money that is only for a limited time.. Then tell people that these items can be gained as rare loot from the mobs in the new area, but spending hours killing everything you find and you still wont ever see 1 piece of vender fodder let alone one of the new items…

I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you Kill Kayt, but I don’t work for ANet. Though I’ll be honest I wish I did. No I’m just your average Joe Schmoe enjoying a great game. As for drops, while I haven’t found anything worthy of mention I have got some junk items from the island. Thank you and have a good night.

I agree with the O. P, and as an mmo veteran I know no game this early in has been perfect.. Gw2 is trying to do things we always wanted, events that matter and we don’t know every single thing about them because they were on a test server getting farmed by people months in advance.

Things will get better lessons will be learned, and one day we will talk about all this with rose colored glasses.

Really though, I DO NOT work for Anet. I just like some of the things in the event.
I Mostly like the Karla and well… I just think there pretty cool is all. <3
I do admit though, they do have quite a bit of problems with the event.
Ranging from the bugs, lag, rendering issues and other random crap.
I just hope that they stop having huge one time events in LA and other popular cities/places. They just never really work out.
I will agree with you Kill Kayt on the chest, it’s just really stupid and kinda sucks that they put the minis and the other things in a chest. Even though there was so much negative feedback from Halloween event concerning that kinda of thing…
I just wish that they put the minis on the gem store so that I would of actually had a chance to get them
Including the whole thing with the rare loot crap

(whelp…that turned into a larger paragraph then I expected. xD)

Did I insult you? No, how was I a jerk?

And exactly. The chances of getting the Mini’s are so slim and expensive.. and limited…

The new island area is fun and interesting and hard. I was lucky and got Ogden’s Coat out of a jumping puzzle chest… usually I just get crapola. Anyhow, I’ve enjoyed the island portion after spending a lot of time with the buggy parts. Got steam rolled by veteran karka a few times. haha. How can anybody not find that hilarious?

I disagree also.

They have handled the last two events poorly I feel, making the achievements null and void if you don’t finish them in the alotted amount of time OR bugged and you cannot finish them.

If you don’t recieve a map peice before Phase 2, you cannot complete the event series for Lost Shores, if you happen to have real life commitments like work, kids etc and cannot be online at the exact time of the events, you miss out and if you didn’t complete one of the Mad King events, you didn’t recieve the achievement……..

This is a poor way of handling events that everyone should be able to participate in regardless of play times.

I have actually said in other posts that it’s impossible for ArenaNet to cater to everybody, whatever the reason. They schedule these events based on the greatest amount of concurrent players logged in at any given time. They are trying to cater to the majority of players logging in. Unfortunately real life gets in the way, no matter what. I personally am normally asleep during the times that these events have been taking place because I work the night shift, and as such have missed the start of them all. It’s an unavoidable circumstance of life and I personally choose, literally, not to loose sleep over it.

I agree with the OP, ANet is going out of there way to try something different with the MMO scene and all people can do is complain.
its not like achievement points mean anything in the end its just and added bonust like xBox achievements. Unless your OCD and have to have ALL achievements completed in which case I feel sorry for you.
Credit where credit is due, ANet is having a go at something different and I applaud them for it.

The events for Lost Shores were bugged for hundreds of thousands of players.

Not allowing us to participate in Phase 2 and get rewarded for it at this point is just wrong.

Compounding this whole issue as I stated, alot of players simply do not even know they require a map peice to continue on with Phase 2. They are just pressuming that it will be an event they can participate in to get the update.

I’ve been having fun. I’m not going to claim it’s perfect or there haven’t been any frustrations, but overall I’ve been enjoying the quests and having a new zone to explore.

I like that it’s bright and sunny, so different from Orr!

(And for the record, yes, I was one of the players who was booted during the first event and got no reward at all, and wasn’t able to complete the quest chain because it was bugged on my server. So it’s not that I just somehow luckily avoided the problems others are having. I’m just still having fun overall.)

Im not missing the point, my point was that yes, events happen, and yes, sometimes you have real life things that are more important than a game. But thats just it, its a game. There will be more events to come and there will always be events that you can do, but then there will be events that just arent convenient for you. If iv learnet anything from playing GW2 is that its how it was intended to be run.

I personally havn’t had any real time to do this event myself, but I dont mind because the new zone will still be there tomorow, as will the dungeon. But life comes first.

While I’m not crazy about the emphasis on one-time events in principle, it was really cool trailblazing across the new zone. I’m looking forward to future new zones getting a pioneering phase at launch.

Yes, there were some technical issues, but from the creative side, ANet has been anything but disappointing. Hopefully each event just gets smoother and smoother. Thanks Anet! Also, kittens.

There is a massive difference to not being able to do events due to real life commitments vs bugs compounding you from being able to participate in them.

In saying that, you simply don’t have one off events with specific timed parts where not everyone can participate and then on top of this issue, only display the times of those events on the forums….

I hate to break it to you Raksha, but the time of the events was e-mailed, displayed on the main website, and also put up on Facebook and Twitter. I’m sorry if you’ve had a lousy time of it with bugs, or have been unable to make it due to real life concerns, but it is, after all, only a game. There will be more events in the future, and as each one comes around, it’ll be more refined, with less bugs, as the system irons itself out. Until then, I recommend enjoying it to the best of your ability.

Still no excuse when they had a negative backlash from the Mad King event.

You generally learn from past experiences, not invent new ways to make it harder for players to participate.

Raksha, I’m going to be as blunt and as forthcoming as I can be. Guild Wars 2 is unique. There isn’t another MMO like it in existence. As such, the events and experiences within such a game are also unique. Unfortunately this also means that any glitches, bugs, and breaks are going to be summarily unique. It is therefor also safe to say that, having no past basis for these problems arising, it is difficult for the development team to foresee every issue that might raise its ugly head. So to be perfectly honest, it’s a perfectly legitimate excuse. I’ll grant you, with the scavenger hunt, there were certain parallels with NPC’s not showing up or not activating, but that doesn’t mean that it’s the same underlying issue causing the NPC to malfunction. Also, as a rule, such issues are not intentional, as it tends to offend the player base, as you have so succinctly pointed out. On the subject of timing, I have to disagree with you though. I believe that such one time events add flavor and depth to the game. Speaking as a veteran of Guild Wars 1, the only changes I saw in 4 years of playing the Halloween event were different masks. Other than that, it had gone stale. It seems to me that the development team was trying to avoid falling into that rut, and with one time events like this they’ve accomplished that, for the majority of players. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, and I respect that. However it’s been my experience so far that the most negative reviews that have come from the game have been from a minority, though a very vocal minority. In game most people seem to like the way things are going. Again, I would like to say that such bugs and glitches will become fewer and fewer as time goes on. And I also have to say that I truly hope that they continue doing these “one time only” events, even if I do miss them from time to time. It only makes the game more interesting to play.

The new zone is pretty but pointless. Farmed up so crabs for an hour and got nothing but shells. Since I don’t feel the need to see the scenery again I wont be going back after the events.

You have gotten what you paid for, all that remains is biweekly gemshop pushing.

I am surprised by all of the negative posts here. I participated in all three days – the first day I fought more lag than anything else, so I dialed down my settings from best picture to best performance and the other two events ran seamlessly.

It was loads of fun and well worth the minimal wife aggro I drew as a result of spending nearly three hours playing on Sunday.

My only regret was missing the end of the first part of the last day. I dodge rolled off the edge of the ramp and fell to my death (it was the only time I was not rezzed by another player, but given how long it took to hit bottom, I was very far from everyone else). I had to go all the way back to the beginning and didn’t make it back before the end.

Everyone praising the event probably got a precursor :P

For me the event was OK. I liked it more than the Halloween event. I think the skipping stones jumping puzzle is great. I didn’t like Mad King’s Clock Tower because you had to wait sooo long if you failed to try again. And it was a little too difficult IMO.

FotM is really good. A.N. needs to fix it so that someone who DCs can rejoin the group. Also the lvl thing is getting annoying. People aren’t willing to drop down a level to go. It’s fragmenting the people willing to run the dungeon. I’m even seeing it within our guild. People at level 7 want to progress to lvl 8 and aren’t willing to go with the guys at level 3 for example. Jumping around Lions Arch trying to get a group of people on the same lvl as me reminded me of my WoW days….I didn’t like.
