Tried to participate, but couldn't afford to: repair costs
I was revived at least 20 times during the event. Waypointed twice rather than waiting to be rezzed from a complete defeat. Probably got rezzed from a complete defeat maybe 3 times? Hung in there the entire 2.5 hours from start to finish. I probably revived at least 6 dozen or more downed/defeated players. Probably more.
My total repair cost was all of 2 silver. Not bad considering the total gold equivalent of the rewards. I sold one exotic piece for 1.7 gold on the TP right then and there. The stuff I kept for use is probably worth at least 15 gold.
Total repair cost + WP usage = maybe 15s. I wear light armor. When I repaired 2/6 pieces were completely in the red. Final chest rewarded me with 2 orange drop’s and 3 yellow’s. Even took 2+ hours. Twas worth it. I went from having ~4g to ~8g.
Hell, I seen naked people fighting. Fight naked and you still get a good reward at the end.

I spent about over a gold in a half just on repairs. We wiped several times and it is just me, but if I get down once I repair as soon as I can. and each time it was over a silver and a half. per repair.
You can buy gems to convert into gold to pay for repairs. That way, you won’t have a problem taking part in events.
“it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun, rather than having fun”
Guild missions say otherwise.
I don’t really understand the problem. I was there start to finish. Managed to actually get loot from some enemies, so I was right there participating with everyone else. I swapped between greatsword and shortbow on my ranger so I was even using melee sometimes.
I died once.
Red Circles are bad. If a Karka balls up, move. Spread out so you won’t get hit by attacks aimed at someone else. 99% of the people I saw die it was a vet Karka’s charge or the AoE poison both of which are really easy to avoid.
I went through the event twice, and never died. I got downed a couple times, but was able to either get myself up or be helped by others.
If you want to learn how to play in big laggy zergs, try your hand at WvW.
I think I must have been downed a dozen times during the whole event but amazingly I only died once when I fell down the hole (along with several others) when we were chasing the Ancient Karka around its nest.
You DO NOT need to repair all the time. You should only repair if a piece goes red at the earliest; you can go longer than that though. The effect of having damaged gear (in the yellow) is so minimal on the grand scale of the event that you’re essentially wasting money.
Agree with the person above. Only need to repair when armor has gone red (and I have extras that I swap out when that happens).
Another tip is to use repair cannisters you probably have gotten. Wait for all pieces to go yellow (damaged), then swap out any when they go red. Once you have a lot of red gear, put the highest level & quality broken stuff on and use a repair cannister to repair it all free. If you normally repair each as they turn yellow this could save you about 18 silver per use of repair cannister.
