Upset at bugs
The event was completely unplayable.
Massive server lag, abilities never activating, and fps drops down to <1.
And now the quest chain is riddled with bugs.
The hell is this Anet?
Could be worse, my PSU went on Thursday. No pc until the 26th.
I took today off too, used a vacation day. I’m about to see what looks interesting in my Steam folder.
Dishonored is crazy fun.
First mistake – Taking time off work to play a video game
Second mistake – Thinking everything would work perfectly on the first day
The games 2 months old and Anet are still getting used to how to do events properly and compensate for massive amounts of people flocking to them. If you just expect everything to work perfectly your going to be disappointed.
If you think you can do it better, apply to work there.
If not, relax, its just a game, dont take time off work to play a game..thats just silly
Perfectly? How about… at all?
And with only 3 days to play it, many would not get any chance to play without moving their work schedule around.
@Skreemin, ya thats the nature of one time events, its not like you cant do the rest of the new content. I like the one time event thing and they scheduled the big one for their largest concurrency block.
You know that most of this will be here forever right?
I had no issues, no lags, no crashes, just the usual rendering problems with dozens of objects around, but tabbing when going ranged worked fine. Got 120 karka kills during the event only, never died and had great fun…

“First” – Generally, I agree with this. However, who are we to judge when people use their vacation time or what they do with it? I like to travel, some people like to build furniture in their garage, some like to play video games. Is anyone wrong for taking time off to do what they like to do? It’s not silly to them and it’s a little arrogant of you to assume that just because you wouldn’t do it, anyone who does deserves chastening. I’m not calling you a jerk or anything, mind you, just reminding you not to judge ;-D
“Second” – There are only 3 days and the global event was only a one-time deal. When should it work perfectly if not the only time it actually happens? Granted, expecting it to work and hoping it will work perfectly are two different things but should we fault the player for expecting a one-time event to work properly?
Hopefully they will think of something for the next 2 events that will make them work a little better. I’ve said it since the beginning; their netcode and culling issues will be the death of this game if they don’t solve them. It’s fine to give it time but everyone will eventually get sick of a game with serious/severe rendering problems.
[CO] Cryptic Omen
Lucky you drkn. I encountered every major turning point NPC for the investigation to be bugged and not appearing. And then in major event battles I can’t even see the enemies before they’re dead. I had unfun.
Haven’t done the scavenger hunt yet, as i went to Fractals soon after the LA part of meta event – waiting for tomorrow when there will be less people occupying the NPCs. I’ve learnt the lesson of Halloween when people kept zerging NPCs for the first day.
Go Fractals, enjoy the update! Tomorrow things will be much better.
Or you can’t take time off work and you apparently miss the event completely.
What kind of jack-a’s put a one-time event on a weekday while the entire US is working/schooling?
othere than that one asura dude talking to much i havne had any problems >_>

GW2 is 3 months old. GW1 is 7+ years. they should have learned in 7 years, but they keep failing. If I thought I could do a game, Id have my own company to make and sell, not work in a company who is delivering fail after fail since beta.
Taking time off work to play a game is not silly if that is how you relax.
First Mistake – Build up an event to get people exited
Second Mistake – Totally fail on first day of event
In my line of work I would be fired by now.
The reason people think it’s dumb to take time off work is that the people who do it try to use it as an entitlement. For example: “this better work for me, and be great because I’m sacrificing work time to do this”, which is just plain dumb. I’ve scheduled trips to Disneyland only to find that my favorite ride is shut down for repairs, I get disappointed for a second and then I enjoy the fact that I’m at Disneyland.
It’s really discouraging to see how people react when things aren’t going 100% their way.
GW2’s live-team seems worse at planning stuff than GW1.
I don’t really remember any of these issues with the original game. Primarily because they didn’t have any issue with extending a holiday or replaying an event every hour.
None of this “one time event” silliness.
I recall at least one occasion where a holiday was extended because there was a bug or some other reason people couldn’t participate.
The whole “NO! HALLOWEEN ENDS ON THE 31st!” attitude was a little absurd, especially with everything going on around the world.
I’m pretty upset at the bugs too. I knew I wouldn’t make the opening event, and I was fine with that, thinking of all the cool new content that awaited me. Logged in, and found the event chains and even one of the fractals bugged. I’m debating even logging in tomorrow.
None of the events can be completed, this event is just full of bugs on top of I’m getting spammed now once an hour. So much for a quality game when they can’t even beta test and make sure you can get through the events properly.

By that logic I would say the “mistake” just as equally falls on Anet’s shoulders for promoting a one-time-only event that virtually all loyal fans are going to do their utmost to be part of only to provide mostly broken or unplayable content. Maybe the real mistake is supporting this kind of content in the manner Anet hopes it’s players will when — according to you — they’re not properly prepared for such grand undertakings.
Regardless of whether you hold the opinion that taking time off work to play a game is a “mistake” or not, the fact remains Anet promoted an extremely limited event and needs to be capable of delivering. And incidentally, taking time off work for a game is no different than taking time off to watch a sporting event or a movie premier or a concert or any other non-working activity one might wish to partake in. It’s recreation. People always have — and always will — take time off work for recreational purposes. In particular people frequently do so for one-time-only or limited-time-only events.
The reason people think it’s dumb to take time off work is that the people who do it try to use it as an entitlement. For example: “this better work for me, and be great because I’m sacrificing work time to do this”, which is just plain dumb. This isn’t a case where one particular ride isn’t functioning however. This is a case where the one and only draw that’s been promoted as a one-time-only event is not functioning properly or simply not functioning at all. We in effect already live in Disneyland on a daily basis. So the idea of consoling oneself with the notion that the rest of the game still functions isn’t all that palatable. People are here because this is a limited event that by Anet’s own word is never going to happen again. It’s not the consumer’s fault for wanting to be a part of such a limited experience. At worst it’s the consumer’s fault for trusting in Anet’s ability to deliver what they are promoting. Only in gaming it seems is this deemed to be the customer’s fault for believing that a company is going to provide what they say they will.
You would expect that for their “free trial weekend” that they’d have an event that was very well play-tested.
Oh it’s broken. I ragequit after wandering around for 2 hours wondering what was supposed to be going on. Everything is so confusing when it doesn’t work. You aren’t sure what’s supposed to be happening and you get somewhere and find everyone just milling about.
This isn’t a case where one particular ride isn’t functioning however. This is a case where the one and only draw that’s been promoted as a one-time-only event is not functioning properly or simply not functioning at all.
Sorry but that’s totally false. The one-time event is one of literally hundreds of “rides” added by the Nov. 15 update, all the rest of which work flawlessly at best and well at worst. Loot drops have been improved, dozens of event and progress bugs fixed, new resources added, an entire new zone opened — even old boss fights have been revisited, and more rewards added to old dungeons. I’m not sure if you’re just grossly exaggerating the situation out of dissatisfaction or if you’re actually unaware of all that and still need to read the update notes.
