Yesterday's event made me realise 2 things
Hahaha, saw no.1 several times. No.2 was mainly because we didn’t have the camp karka waypoint and the south waypoint is annoying (but not impossible) to get back from. That and the amount of Karka along the way.
We had a full group wipe and some of us had to buy revive orbs (of course it was all in vain with the new build push but that’s irrelevant). I think the groups handled it well, even with the wipe.
3. Culling magically goes away when you’re dead.
It made me realize things too:
1. When playing with 10+ seconds of lag, green stuff, death rolls and dart volleys kill you long before you see them.
2. Closing to melee range under those circumstances can accurately be described as assisted suicide.
3. Rezzing other players is then the only valuable contribution you can make on a melee character. So much for no dedicated healers…
1. The green kitten on the ramps going up to the top of the chamber was dropped in such a way that I could dodge twice and still be stuck in it, and dead. This is when I moved upon seeing the red circle, and not when I saw the poison on my face. The setup of the zone and how the poison was dropped made it unavoidable in several scenarios.
2. Can’t argue with this one too much in terms of laziness, but one of the times I DID run back, my game got stuck on a loading screen and I had to close out the client and restart. I did not get credit for the second part of the event as a result (drive the Ancient Karka back to the nesting grounds), despite having been there the whole time. Luckily, I was still there for part 3, so I was able to get the chest, but I know others were not able to because they did the same thing and weren’t given credit for the event.
Chrissle, I had no other choice but to remain dead if I in any case died, because if I tried to rez myself I got stuck in the loading screen, had to close the game and try to get in with login servers offline.
But I agree that ppl seemed useless by standing in the green goo all the time.
Look at it this way, but staying defeated rathering than wping back they were doing you a favor; you weren’t going to get exp from killing karka, but you could rack it up by the bushel from rezing.

Nah rezz xp isnt that high on a lvl 80 character. But it was fun rezzing someone and then 10 secs later same person ran into the next green goo and died again. =P
I think we were fortunate with the ‘zerg’ we had, we all helped each other by rezzing best we could and people generally didn’t stand in things too much. I messed up plenty of times myself but it was a long fight so it’s hard to stay concentrated :P
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
You should have learnt the following:
1. A zergfest will cause lag on many computers – lag and aoe dmg results in downed players.
2. Playing as a team is more fun, rezzing people is teamwork and is good. People were playing as intended. This is a good sign in a time of change…

And you should have learnt what “lag” in MMO terminology means. You would have known that it has nothing to do with player’s computer.
I think my alt made an entire level rezzing people during the demolition team segment

We had a good zerg also on overflow, aldow we died a lot because of the Karka Roll thingy;_), we always came back as a full group.
The only problem that I had is that you made a good point about some players standing still, waiting it out, do the last boss en get a TOP reward in the end but I guess there is no tracking system for that… I guess we have to live with that

Darkdanjal lvl 80 mesmer (Desolation)
I saw many people rezzing fallen comrades, particularly when forcing the Ancient Karka from the nearest waypoint back to the nesting grounds/hive. Unlike Oghier (above), I didn’t get an entire level from rezzing – only half. It was really great seeing people helping each other out whether they were in the same team/group or not.

The idea is still valid however, just because he doesn’t know that the lag is server side not on our side doesn’t mean he should be berated for it.
I suppose we should hail you for you’re apparent wizard knowledge of all MMO terminology and your possible influence in coining such terms.

The first point was sadly, at least on my side, caused by a very unnerving delay in everything that was happening. I tried to dodge and roll, but most of the time I still got hit by the attacks or have not even seen the attacks comming as the beasts appeared only after killing me and those around. That made the fight rather difficult.
The second point was something I learned to be careful about once I tried to come back and crashed. Luckily I managed to get back and into a server where I could still take part in the event (later I crashed for good -.- ). So I rather hoped for someone to heal me then to risk moving to a waypoint. Besides, the waypoint was too far away and I had to run across the entire island to get back.
I treid to circle around the fight to get to a waypoint that was closer, but by that time it was all too late and I joined the unlucky masses who got disconnected shortly before the end.
So I guess those observations had more to do with the lag-problems then with the players. At least from my point of view.
1. 90% of GW2 players dont know how to move out of green kitten and instead just stay in it and die.
2. 90% of GW2 players rather let the other 10% finish the fight and then rezz them instead of running back from waypoint to help out with the fight again.=P
Unfortunately, the area covered by the green kitten was usually too large to get out of without dying, or, as others have noticed, the lag was just too great and you were killed even if you were watching out for it.
And releasing and running from a waypoint was dangerous in itself, too many veteran Karka flanked by Veteran Young Karka on the way and, being a squishy Elementalist, this was not a viable option for me. Those Karka made the majority of players just as squishy as me, so I don’t blame them for waiting for a rez instead of attempting to run from a waypoint.
I was disappointed to see that many players were simply standing on the edges of the event not doing anything. I guess they just wanted to avoid repair bills and collect the loot, but I assume their presence was scaling up the difficulty of the event.
Then there are the players who choose to fight naked (to avoid repair bills). Surely they realize the loss of stats really hurts their ability to effectively participate. And, no, it wasn’t a problem with no repair vendor being around; I watched plenty of them run naked right past repair vendors whenever we’d all have to respawn at Camp Karka.
These are all players who are leaching off the efforts of others and then being rewarded heavily at the end. If this were a raid group, they’d be kicked out, but that’s obviously not how GW2 works. And that’s fine, but I wish the game was smarter about detecting this when it comes time to distribute rewards.
i agree. the 2 times i did the entire event (one chest, the second one did not let me use chest), but the amount of niceness from other players was a good feel. i ressed a large number of players that day, and some players ressed me.
after just trying to sit around waiting for resses, while in downed state, i mist’d to a group of alive players, who proceeded to pick me up from downed state. as Ice Cube said, “I gotta say it was a good day”.
running back is not an options when you are alone. i think others mentioned that you MUST have a few players in tow with you to get through this area. the hard-hitting mobs don’t help when just running back to join the zerg – it definitely is faster to just lie there and chance not getting ressed.
i made 20 gold off the first zerg run, and nothing on the second. still mad about that second. anyways, THANK YOU ZERG! You are surely helpful, and i am glad for its formations. Strength and Honor – in many numbers!
I think there are a good number of folks who learned the hard way not to stand in the green goo yesterday.
It’s probably not right to judge, though, because there was a serious rendering issue. Many times I could not see the Karka we were fighting and I’m betting that seeing the goo was a problem for some folks too. I’m ranged so staying at max distance helped a little with dealing with pools of poison.
As for running back, I did it three times… often enough that I am now a pro at dodging veteran karka along the way.

You expect the devs to come up with a game smart enough to weed out slackers when the devs can’t even figure out how to avoid the lag, bugs, disconnects, and crashes? Good luck with that …
Stormbluff Isle [AoD]
The best part of the whole event was everyone getting wiped out then having one or two people rez a few and watching as the one or two became a wave of rezzes till the whole troop was back on it’s feet.
Going to waypoint was risking a loading screen of death and a freeze. Happened to me more than once.
The culling was so bad you couldn’t see karka, aoe circles, green slime, and sometimes other players until you were dead. I leveled up my “No One Left Behind” achievement rezzing people. No biggie, the lag was bad. A lot of people wanted to be there to play the event. I see that as a good thing! And it takes less time to rez someone than it takes for them to run back.
